Abstract

An architecture is presented that provides a behavior monitoring and communication system. The system comprises behavior monitoring, cueing and communication devices designed to efficiently teach children and others self-monitoring skills with minimum adult intervention. The behavior monitoring, cueing and communication devices comprise at least one detection device that detects predefined behavior, such as positive or disruptive behaviors, and at least one monitoring device that monitors the predefined behavior. The system is programmed and overseen by the instructor or teacher from any location in the room through the use of the monitoring device. Further, the monitoring device can control and monitor more than one detection device simultaneously.

Claims

1. A behavior monitoring and communication system, comprising:

at least one detection device that detects predefined behavior; and

at least one monitoring device that monitors the predefined behavior.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the predefined behavior comprises at least one of an impulsive movement and an impulsive speech.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the at least one monitoring device is capable of monitoring more than one detection device.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein each of the detection device and the monitoring device further comprise alerts and behavior indicators.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein when a user exhibits model attentive behavior, the detection device is attentive.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein when the detection device is attentive the detection device performs at least one of following functions:

flashes lights, opens eyes, and produces a detectable heart pulse.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein if a user of the detection device exhibits a predefined behavior, the detection device automatically shuts-down.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein if a user of the detection device exhibits a predefined behavior, the detection device allows a specific number of behavior correction opportunities before shutting-down.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the detection device emits cues signaling a user to perform desired actions.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein a user of the monitoring device can disable at least one predefined behavior cue from the detection device.

11. The system of claim 1, wherein each of the detection device and the monitoring device further comprise a microphone and at least one speaker.

12. The system of claim 1, wherein the monitoring device can be transported on a user'"'"'s wrist or belt loop.

13. The system of claim 1, wherein the monitoring device is capable of recording occurrences of predefined behavior received from the detection device to create a baseline.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the baseline is created manually.

15. The system of claim 13, wherein the baseline is created automatically.

16. A behavior modification and communication system, comprising:

at least one detection device that detects predefined behavior of a user; and

at least one monitoring device that monitors the predefined behavior, wherein behavior indicators of the detection device are mirrored on the monitoring device.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the detection device emits cues signaling the user to perform desired actions.

18. The system of claim 16, wherein a user of the monitoring device disables at least one predefined behavior cue from the detection device.

19. A behavior modification and communication system, comprising:

at least one detection device that detects impulsive movement and impulsive speech of a user which triggers behavior indicators; and

at least one monitoring device that monitors the behavior indicators, wherein the behavior indicators of the detection device are mirrored on the monitoring device.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the detection device is used by a student and the monitoring device is used by a teacher to monitor the student.
