Abstract

Techniques involving gestures and other functionality are described. In one or more implementations, an input is recognized by a computing device as corresponding to a gesture, the gesture defined using a plurality of parameters, at least one of which having a threshold that varies with respect to another one of the parameters. An operation is caused to be performed by the computing device that corresponds to the gesture.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

recognizing an input by a computing device as corresponding to a gesture, the gesture defined using a plurality of parameters, at least one of which having a threshold that varies with respect to another one of the parameters; and

causing an operation to be performed by the computing device that corresponds to the gesture.

2. A method as described in claim 1, wherein the other one of the parameters is time.

3. A method as described in claim 2, wherein the at least one of the parameters is distance or pressure.

4. A method as described in claim 1, wherein the input is a touch input detected using touchscreen functionality of the computing device

5. A method as described in claim 1, further comprising detecting the input using a camera.

6. A method as described in claim 1, further comprising outputting a result of the operation by the computing device for display by a display device.

7. A method as described in claim 1, further comprising adjusting the threshold of the at least one parameter.

8. A method as described in claim 7, wherein the adjusting is performed based on observed interaction with the computing device.

9. A method as described in claim 1, wherein the threshold is set to filter jitter from a touch point described by the input.

10. A method comprising:

detecting an input by a computing device; and

determining which of a plurality of gestures correspond to the input, one or more of the gestures defined using at least one parameter having a threshold that varies with respect to time.

11. A method as described in claim 10, further comprising causing an operation to be performed by the computing device that corresponds to the determined gesture.

12. A method as described in claim 10, wherein one of the plurality of gestures is a pan gesture and another one of the plurality of gestures is a tap gesture.

13. A method as described in claim 10, wherein the threshold that varies with respect to time is used, at least in part, to differentiate between at least two of the plurality of gestures, one from another.

A method as described in claim 10, wherein the differentiation is defined such that a value of the at least one parameter over the threshold causes a determination of a first said gesture and a value of the at least one parameter under the threshold causes a determination of a second said gesture.

15. A method as described in claim 10, wherein the at least one parameter is distance or pressure.

16. One or more computer-readable media comprising instructions that are executable by a computing device to determine which of a plurality of gestures corresponds to an input detected using touchscreen functionality of the computing device, the determination based at least in part by a differentiation made between the plurality of gestures using at least one parameter that has a threshold that varies with respect to time.

17. One or more computer-readable media as described in claim 16, further comprising causing an operation to be performed that corresponds to the determined gesture.

18. One or more computer-readable media as described in claim 17, wherein the at least one parameter is distance.

19. One or more computer-readable media as described in claim 18, wherein the threshold for the distance is defined to vary inversely with respect to the time.

20. One or more computer-readable media as described in claim 16, wherein a first one of the gestures is a pan gesture and a second one of the gesture is a tap gesture.
