Abstract

Provided are a method and apparatus for selecting a region on a screen of a device. The method includes recognizing a signal due to dragging from outside of the screen of the device, and determining a selection region based on a location where the drag is released.

Claims

1. A method of selecting a region on a screen of a device, the method comprising:

recognizing a signal due to dragging from on the device outside of the screen of the device; and

determining a selection region based on a location where the drag is released.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein recognizing the signal due to dragging comprises recognizing an input signal from a sensor arranged outside of the screen and an input signal on the screen.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein recognizing the signal due to dragging comprises analyzing a form of a touched surface based on the input signal on the screen and determining the input signal on the screen as resulting from dragging from outside of the screen according to the result of analyzing.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein recognizing the signal due to dragging comprises receiving and recognizing a signal due to dragging from an outside area designated on the screen.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising adjusting the selection region based on a signal resulting from dragging from the determined selection region.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising recognizing another input signal other than the recognized input signal, on the screen before releasing the drag, and wherein the selection region is determined based on a location where the drag is released and a location of the another input signal.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the other input signal comprises a tap signal or a touch signal.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the another input signal comprises another signal due to dragging from outside of the screen of the device.

13. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the selection region determining unit adjusts the selection region based on a signal resulting from dragging from the determined selection region.

9. An apparatus for selecting a region on a screen of a device, the apparatus comprising:

a signal recognizing unit for recognizing a signal due to dragging from on the device outside of the screen of the device; and

a selection region determining unit for determining a selection region based on a location where the drag is released.

10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the signal recognizing unit recognizes an input signal from a sensor arranged outside of the screen and an input signal on the screen.

11. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the signal recognizing unit analyzes a form of a touched surface based on the input signal on the screen and determines the input signal on the screen as a signal resulting from dragging from outside of the screen according to the result of analyzing.

12. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the signal recognizing unit receives and recognizes a signal due to dragging from an outside area designated on the screen.

The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the signal recognizing unit further recognizes another input signal other than the recognized input signal, on the screen before releasing the drag and the selection region determining unit determines the selection region based on a location where the drag is released and a location of the another input signal.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the another input signal comprises a tap signal or a touch signal.

16. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the another input signal comprises another signal due to dragging from outside of the screen of the device.

17. A computer-readable recording medium having recorded thereon a computer program for executing a method of selecting a region on a screen of a device, the method comprising:

recognizing a signal due to dragging from on the device outside of the screen of the device; and

determining a selection region based on a location where the drag is released.
