Abstract

The present application discloses novel systems for conducting the filtration of blood using manifolds. The manifolds integrate various sensors and have fluid pathways formed therein to direct fluids from various sources through the requisite blood filtration or ultrafiltration system steps.

Claims

1. A disposable apparatus for use in filtering blood comprising:

a molded plastic substrate having a first flow path and a second flow path formed therein, wherein said first flow path and second flow path are fluidically isolated from each other;

at least one transducer diaphragm co-molded into at least one of the first or second flow paths; and

a plurality of ports integrated into said molded plastic substrate.

2. The disposable apparatus of claim 1 further comprising tubing having a first end fixedly attached to at least one of said ports and a second end fixedly attached to an input port of a dialyzer.

3. The disposable apparatus of claim 2 further comprising tubing having a first end fixedly attached to at least one of said ports and a second end adapted to be removably attached to an input port of a collection reservoir.

4. The disposable apparatus of claim 3 further comprising tubing having a first end fixedly attached to at least one of said ports and a second end adapted to be removably attached to an input port of a dialysate regeneration system.

5. The disposable apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a first tubing having a first end fixedly attached to a first one of said ports and a second end fixedly attached to an input port of a dialyzer and a second tubing having a first end fixedly attached to a second one of said ports and a second end fixedly attached to an output port of the dialyzer.

6. The disposable apparatus of claim 1 further comprising embedded data, wherein said embedded data uniquely identifies the disposable apparatus.

7. A disposable apparatus for use in filtering blood comprising:

first and second inlet ports;

first and second outlet ports;

a first flow path formed in a plastic substrate comprising at least one sensor directly molded therein wherein said first flow path forms a pathway for transporting blood from the first inlet port to the first outlet port; and

a second flow path formed in the plastic substrate comprising at least one sensor directly molded therein wherein said second flow path forms a pathway for transporting a first fluid from the second inlet port to the second outlet port.

8. The disposable apparatus of claim 7 further comprising tubing having a first end fixedly attached to the first inlet port and a second end fixedly attached to an output port of a dialyzer.

9. The disposable apparatus of claim 7 further comprising tubing having a first end fixedly attached to the second outlet port and a second end adapted to be removably attached to an input port of a collection reservoir.

10. The disposable apparatus of claim 7 further comprising:

a third inlet port;

a third outlet port;

a third flow path formed in a plastic substrate comprising at least one sensor directly molded therein wherein said third flow path forms a pathway for transporting blood from the third inlet port to the third outlet port.

11. The disposable apparatus of claim 10 further comprising tubing having a first end fixedly attached to the third outlet port and a second end adapted to be removably attached to an input port of a dialysate regeneration system.

12. The disposable apparatus of claim 7 further comprising embedded data, wherein said embedded data uniquely identifies the disposable apparatus.

13. The disposable apparatus of claim 7 wherein said sensor comprises a transducer diaphragm.

14. The disposable apparatus of claim 13 wherein said transducer diaphragm comprises polyisoprene.

15. A disposable apparatus for use in filtering blood comprising:

a molded plastic substrate having a first flow path and a second flow path formed therein, wherein said first flow path and second flow path are fluidically isolated from each other;

at least one sensor molded into at least one of the first or second flow paths using a multi-shot plastic injection molding process; and

a plurality of ports integrated into said molded plastic substrate.

16. The disposable apparatus of claim 15 wherein said sensor comprises a transducer diaphragm.

17. The disposable apparatus of claim 15 further comprising tubing having a first end fixedly attached to at least one of said ports and a second end fixedly attached to an input port of a dialyzer.

18. The disposable apparatus of claim 15 further comprising tubing having a first end fixedly attached to at least one of said ports and a second end adapted to be removably attached to an input port of a collection reservoir.

19. The disposable apparatus of claim 15 further comprising tubing having a first end fixedly attached to at least one of said ports and a second end adapted to be removably attached to an input port of a dialysate regeneration system.

20. The disposable apparatus of claim 15 further comprising a first tubing having a first end fixedly attached to a first one of said ports and a second end fixedly attached to an input port of a dialyzer and a second tubing having a first end fixedly attached to a second one of said ports and a second end fixedly attached to an output port of the dialyzer.
