Abstract

A vibration resistant cable may be provided. The vibration resistant cable may comprise a first conductor and a second conductor. The first conductor and the second conductor may each have a diameter d. The second conductor may be twisted around the first conductor at a lay length determined as a function of the diameter d and may be configured to reduce relative movement of the first conductor and the second conductor that would result in bags in the vibration resistant cable.

Claims

1. A vibration resistant cable comprising:

a first conductor having a diameter d; and

a second conductor having the diameter d, the second conductor twisted around the first conductor at a lay length determined as a function of the diameter d and configured to reduce relative movement of the first conductor and the second conductor that would result in bags in the vibration resistant cable.

2. The vibration resistant cable of claim 1, wherein the function comprises a linear function.

3. The vibration resistant cable of claim 1, wherein the lay length is further configured to cause a locking force between the first conductor and the second conductor to reduce relative movement.

4. The vibration resistant cable of claim 3, wherein the function establishes a relationship between the lay length, the diameter, and a plurality of constants associated with the locking force.

5. The vibration resistant cable of claim 1, wherein the determined lay length is further configured to allow some relative movement between the first conductor and the second conductor to provide Aeolian vibration dampening in the vibration resistant cable.

6. The vibration resistant cable of claim 1, wherein the lay length is configured to reduce the formation of bags during installation of the vibration resistant cable.

7. The vibration resistant cable of claim 1, wherein the lay length is less than 8 feet.

8. The vibration resistant cable of claim 1, wherein the first conductor and the second conductor each comprise a respective plurality of strands.

9. A vibration resistant cable comprising:

a first conductor having a diameter d; and

a second conductor having the diameter d,

wherein the first conductor and the second conductor are twisted together at a lay length determined as a function of the diameter d and configured to reduce the formation of bags in the vibration resistant cable.

10. The vibration resistant cable of claim 9, wherein the function comprises a linear function.

11. The vibration resistant cable of claim 9, wherein the lay length is further configured to cause a locking force between the first conductor and the second conductor to reduce relative movement.

12. The vibration resistant cable of claim 11, wherein the function establishes a relationship between the lay length, the diameter, and a plurality of constants associated with the locking force.

13. The vibration resistant cable of claim 9, wherein the determined lay length is further configured to allow some relative movement between the first conductor and the second conductor to provide Aeolian vibration dampening in the vibration resistant cable.

14. The vibration resistant cable of claim 9, wherein the lay length is configured to reduce the formation of bags during installation of the vibration resistant cable.

15. The vibration resistant cable of claim 9, wherein the lay length is less than 8 feet.

16. The vibration resistant cable of claim 9, wherein the first conductor and the second conductor each comprise a respective plurality of strands.

17. A vibration resistant cable comprising:

a first conductor having a predetermined thickness; and

a second conductor having the predetermined thickness, wherein the second conductor is twisted around the first conductor at a lay length determined as a function of the predetermined thickness and configured to reduce relative movement of the first conductor and the second conductor that would result in bags in the vibration resistant cable.

18. The vibration resistant cable of claim 17, wherein the function comprises a linear function.

19. The vibration resistant cable of claim 17, wherein the lay length is further configured to cause a locking force between the first conductor and the second conductor to reduce relative movement.

20. The vibration resistant cable of claim 19, wherein the function establishes a relationship between the lay length, the diameter, and a plurality of constants associated with the locking force.

21. The vibration resistant cable of claim 17, wherein the determined lay length is further configured to allow some relative movement between the first conductor and the second conductor to provide Aeolian vibration dampening in the vibration resistant cable.

22. The vibration resistant cable of claim 17, wherein the lay length is configured to reduce the formation of bags during installation of the vibration resistant cable.

23. The vibration resistant cable of claim 17, wherein the lay length is less than 8 feet.

24. The vibration resistant cable of claim 17, wherein the first conductor and the second conductor each comprise a respective plurality of strands.

25. A vibration resistant cable comprising:

a first conductor having a diameter d; and

a second conductor having the diameter d, the second conductor twisted around the first conductor at a lay length determined based upon the diameter d and optimized to obtain a desired locking force between the first conductor and the second conductor to reduce relative movement of the first conductor and the second conductor that would result in bags in the vibration resistant cable.

26. The vibration resistant cable of claim 25, wherein the function comprises a linear function.

27. The vibration resistant cable of claim 25, wherein the desired locking force is configured to allow some relative movement between the first conductor and the second conductor to provide Aeolian vibration dampening in the vibration resistant cable.

28. The vibration resistant cable of claim 25, wherein the lay length is configured to reduce the formation of bags during installation of the vibration resistant cable.

29. The vibration resistant cable of claim 25, wherein the lay length is less than 8 feet.

30. The vibration resistant cable of claim 25, wherein the first conductor and the second conductor each comprise a respective plurality of strands.
