Abstract

In one embodiment, a method includes determining focus on a focus item associated with a controllable item. The focus item is displayed on an interface that includes a plurality of display positions. A context for the controllable item based on the focus being on the focus item and a set of controllable attributes associated with the controllable item are determined. The method dynamically determines an order of the set of controllable attributes based on the context. The context is used to prioritize the set of controllable attributes in the order. The set of controllable attributes is displayed in the order in at least a portion of the plurality of display positions.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

determining focus on a focus item associated with a controllable item, the focus item being displayed on an interface that includes a plurality of display positions;

determining a context for the controllable item based on the focus being on the focus item;

determining a set of controllable attributes associated with the controllable item;

dynamically, by a computing device, determining an order of the set of controllable attributes based on the context, wherein the context is used to prioritize the set of controllable attributes in the order; and

displaying the set of controllable attributes in the order in at least a portion of the plurality of display positions.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of display positions require a different number of keystrokes to navigate to different display positions.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein:

the plurality of display positions are associated with a priority based on the different number of keystrokes needed to navigate to the plurality of display positions; and

the set of controllable attributes are displayed in the plurality of display positions where higher prioritized controllable attributes are displayed in higher priority display positions.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein:

a highest ranked controllable attribute is displayed in a first display position requiring a least amount of keystrokes to navigate to the first display position, and

one or more settings for the highest ranked controllable attribute are displayed.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of controllable attributes is a subset of controllable attributes associated with the controllable item determined based on the context.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein determining the context comprises determining information associated with the controllable item.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein determining the context comprises determining information from an external source not associated with the controllable item.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising displaying a plurality of settings for a controllable attribute in the set of controllable attributes.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining a new context for the controllable item;

determining a new set of controllable attributes associated with the controllable item;

dynamically determining a new order of the new set of controllable attributes based on the new context; and

displaying the new set of controllable attributes in the new order in at least a portion of the plurality of display positions.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the new context is determined based on receiving a selection of a controllable attribute in the set of controllable attributes or a setting for a controllable attribute in the set of controllable attributes.

11. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium containing instructions for controlling a computer system to be operable to:

determine focus on a focus item associated with a controllable item, the focus item being displayed on an interface that includes a plurality of display positions;

determine a context for the controllable item based on the focus being on the focus item;

determine a set of controllable attributes associated with the controllable item;

dynamically determine an order of the set of controllable attributes based on the context, wherein the context is used to prioritize the set of controllable attributes in the order; and

display the set of controllable attributes in the order in at least a portion of the plurality of display positions.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein the plurality of display positions require a different number of keystrokes to navigate to different display positions.

13. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein:

the plurality of display positions are associated with a priority based on the different number of keystrokes needed to navigate to the plurality of display positions; and

the set of controllable attributes are displayed in the plurality of display positions where higher prioritized control attributes are displayed in higher priority display positions.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein:

a highest ranked controllable attribute is displayed in a first display position requiring a least amount of keystrokes to navigate to the first display position, and

one or more settings for the highest ranked controllable attribute are displayed.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein the set of controllable attributes is a subset of controllable attributes associated with the controllable item determined based on the context.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein determine the context comprises determine information associated with the controllable item.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein determine the context comprises determine information from an external source not associated with the controllable item.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11, further operable to:

determine a new context for the controllable item;

determine a new set of controllable attributes associated with the controllable item;

dynamically determine a new order of the new set of controllable attributes based on the new context; and

display the new set of controllable attributes in the new order in at least a portion of the plurality of display positions.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 19, wherein the new context is determined based on receiving a selection of a controllable attribute in the set of controllable attributes or a setting for a controllable attribute in the set of controllable attributes.

20. An apparatus comprising:

one or more computer processors; and

a computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions for controlling the one or more computer processors to be operable to;

determine focus on a focus item associated with a controllable item, the focus item being displayed on an interface that includes a plurality of display positions;

determine a context for the controllable item based on the focus being on the focus item;

determine a set of controllable attributes associated with the controllable item;

dynamically determine an order of the set of controllable attributes based on the context, wherein the context is used to prioritize the set of controllable attributes in the order; and

display the set of controllable attributes in the order in at least a portion of the plurality of display positions.
