Abstract

A method and wireless communication system may be used for transferring management information. An access point (AP) may transmit a management information base (MIB) information request including a category field and an action details field to a wireless transmit/receive (WTRU). In response to receiving the information request, the WTRU may determine whether or not to provide management information to the AP. When the WTRU provides management information to the AP, the WTRU may compile management information stored in a MIB located in the WTRU and transmit a MIB information report to the AP. The MIB may list a plurality of tables containing information associated with radio resource management (RRM) and at least one table containing physical layer measurements. The AP may include a MIB for storing MIB information of the WTRU. The AP may transmit the stored MIB information of the WTRU in response to a request.

Claims

1. An access point (AP) comprising:

a radio resource management (RRM) management information base (MIB) configured to store MIB information from a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), wherein the RRM MIB is further configured to receive a request for the stored information of the WTRU; and

a transmitter configured to transmit the stored MIB information of the WTRU in response to the request.

2. The AP of claim 1, wherein the request for the stored information of the WTRU is received from a network management entity (NME).

3. The AP of claim 1, wherein the RRM MIB is further configured to allow access to a network management entity (NME).

4. The AP of claim 1, wherein the transmitter is further configured to transmit a MIB information request to the WTRU.

5. The AP of claim 4 further comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a MIB information report in response to the MIB information request.

6. The AP of claim 5, wherein the MIB information report is an action frame.

7. The AP of claim 5, wherein the MIB information report is a management frame.

8. The AP of claim 5, wherein the MIB information report is an information element (IE).

9. The AP of claim 1, wherein the stored information of the WTRU includes a physical measurement.

10. The AP of claim 1, wherein the stored information of the WTRU includes medium access control (MAC) statistics.

11. A method for use in an access point (AP), the method comprising:

storing management information base (MIB) information from a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU);

receiving a request for the stored information of the WTRU; and

transmitting the stored MIB information of the WTRU in response to the request.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the request for the stored information of the WTRU is received from a network management entity (NME).

13. The method of claim 11 further comprising:

allowing a network management entity (NME) access to a radio resource management (RRM) MIB of the AP.

14. The method of claim 11 further comprising:

transmitting a MIB information request to the WTRU.

15. The method of claim 14 further comprising:

receiving a MIB information report in response to the MIB information request.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the MIB information report is an action frame.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the MIB information report is a management frame.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein the MIB information report is an information element (IE).

19. The method of claim 11, wherein the stored information of the WTRU includes a physical measurement.

20. The method of claim 11, wherein the stored information of the WTRU includes medium access control (MAC) statistics.
