Abstract

A modular analyte measurement system having a removable strip port module. In one embodiment, the analyte measurement system includes: an analyte meter; a removable strip port module; and a connector linking the removable strip port module to the analyte meter. The analyte meter includes: a meter housing; a receptacle formed in the meter housing; a processing circuit disposed within the housing; and an input interface within the receptacle and electrically coupled to the processing circuit. The removable strip port module includes: a module housing sized to at least partially fit within the receptacle of the analyte meter; an analyte test strip port disposed within the module housing to receive an analyte test strip via an aperture formed in the module housing; and an output interface coupled to the analyte test strip port. The connector links the output interface with the input interface.

Claims

1. An analyte measurement system, comprising:

an analyte meter having

a meter housing,

a receptacle formed in the meter housing,

a processing circuit disposed within the housing, and

an input interface within the receptacle and electrically coupled to the processing circuit;

a removable strip port module having

a module housing sized to at least partially fit within the receptacle of the analyte meter,

an analyte test strip port disposed within the module housing to receive an analyte test strip via an aperture formed in the module housing, and

an output interface coupled to the analyte test strip port; and

a connector linking the output interface with the input interface.

2. The analyte measurement system of claim 1, further comprising an attachment feature to attach the module housing to the meter housing.

3. The analyte measurement system of claim 1, wherein the module housing includes external alignment features to align the module housing within the aperture in the meter housing.

4. The analyte measurement system of claim 1, wherein the meter housing includes alignment features to align the module housing within the aperture in the meter housing.

5. The analyte measurement system of claim 1, wherein the analyte test strip is a glucose test strip.

6. The analyte measurement system of claim 1, wherein the analyte test strip is a ketone test strip.

7. The analyte measurement system of claim 1, wherein the connector is a retractable cord.

8. An analyte measurement system, comprising:

an analyte meter having

a meter housing,

a receptacle formed in the meter housing,

a processing circuit disposed within the housing, and

an input interface within the receptacle and electrically coupled to the processing circuit;

a removable strip port module having

a module housing sized to at least partially fit within the receptacle of the analyte meter,

an analyte test strip port disposed within the module housing to receive an analyte test strip via an aperture formed in the module housing; and

a data transmission module linking the analyte test strip port with the input interface.

9. The analyte measurement system of claim 8, further comprising an attachment feature to attach the module housing to the meter housing.

10. The analyte measurement system of claim 8, wherein the module housing includes external alignment features to align the module housing within the aperture in the meter housing.

11. The analyte measurement system of claim 8, wherein the meter housing includes alignment features to align the module housing within the aperture in the meter housing.

12. The analyte measurement system of claim 8, wherein the analyte test strip is a glucose test strip.

13. The analyte measurement system of claim 8, wherein the analyte test strip is a ketone test strip.

14. The analyte measurement system of claim 8, wherein the data transmission module is a retractable cord.

15. The analyte measurement system of claim 8, wherein the data transmission module is a wireless transmitter.

16. The analyte measurement system of claim 15, wherein the wireless transmitter transmits data from the output interface to the input interface via radio frequency communication, Zigbee communication protocols, WiFi, infrared, wireless Universal Serial Bus, Ultra Wide Band, Bluetooth®

communication protocols, or cellular communication protocols.

25. The analyte measurement system of claim 8, wherein the wireless transmitter transmits data from the output interface to the input interface via radio frequency communication, Zigbee communication protocols, WiFi, infrared, wireless Universal Serial Bus, Ultra Wide Band, Bluetooth®

communication protocols, or cellular communication protocols.

17. An analyte measurement system, comprising:

an analyte meter having

a meter housing,

a receptacle formed in the meter housing,

a processing circuit disposed within the housing, and

an input interface within the receptacle and electrically coupled to the processing circuit;

a removable strip port module having

a module housing sized to at least partially fit within the receptacle of the analyte meter,

an analyte test strip port disposed within the module housing to receive an analyte test strip via an aperture formed in the module housing, and

an output interface coupled to the analyte test strip port; and

a connection means for linking the output interface with the input interface.

18. The analyte measurement system of claim 17, further comprising an attachment feature to attach the module housing to the meter housing.

19. The analyte measurement system of claim 17, wherein the module housing includes external alignment features to align the module housing within the aperture in the meter housing.

20. The analyte measurement system of claim 17, wherein the meter housing includes alignment features to align the module housing within the aperture in the meter housing.

21. The analyte measurement system of claim 17, wherein the analyte test strip is a glucose test strip.

22. The analyte measurement system of claim 17, wherein the analyte test strip is a ketone test strip.

23. The analyte measurement system of claim 17, wherein the connection means is a retractable cord.

24. The analyte measurement system of claim 17, wherein the connection means is a wireless transmitter.
