Abstract

A method of enhancing readability of a graph showing glucose values received from a continuous glucose monitoring device (CGM) on the display of a handheld device includes receiving a plurality of CGM glucose values separated by a first fixed time interval. A second fixed time interval at which to display at least a portion of the plurality of CGM glucose values is received. The second fixed time interval is greater than the first fixed time interval. A computer processor of the handheld device determines a characteristic CGM glucose value at a preselected fixed time for each of a sequence of second fixed time intervals within a patient-specified time period. Each characteristic CGM glucose value is derived from two or more received CGM values centered about the preselected fixed time in the corresponding second fixed time interval. The characteristic CGM glucose values for a patient-selected period of time on the display.

Claims

1. A method of enhancing readability of a graph showing glucose values received from a continuous glucose monitoring device (CGM) on the display of handheld device, the method comprising:

receiving from the continuous glucose monitoring device a plurality of CGM glucose values having a first fixed time interval between any two consecutive CGM glucose values;

receiving a second fixed time interval at which to display at least a portion of the plurality of CGM glucose values, the second fixed time interval being greater than the first fixed time interval;

determining, by a computer processor of the handheld device, a characteristic CGM glucose value at a preselected fixed time for each of a sequence of second fixed time intervals within a patient-specified time period, where each characteristic CGM glucose value is derived from two or more received CGM values centered about the preselected fixed time in the corresponding second fixed time interval; and

displaying the characteristic CGM glucose values for a patient-selected period of time on the display.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein each characteristic CGM glucose value is the median of received CGM glucose values centered about the preselected fixed time for each second fixed time interval.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the first fixed time interval is one minute and the second fixed time interval is five minutes.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising storing the characteristic CGM glucose values at the corresponding preselected fixed times in a memory module of the handheld device.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising storing the received CGM glucose values and the determined characteristic CGM glucose values in a buffer for a sixty minute time interval.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising displaying a CGM glucose curve in real time on the handheld device.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising omitting from the CGM glucose curve initial received CGM values not belonging to the second fixed interval that is centered about the predetermined fixed time when determining the characteristic CGM glucose value of the second fixed time interval.

8. The method of claim 6, further comprising displaying in the CGM curve the determined characteristic CGM value and the subsequent received CGM values up to the determination of a next characteristic CGM value.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining a plurality of supporting pixel points for displaying the characteristic CGM glucose values on a CGM glucose curve of a requested time period for display on the handheld device from a pixel width of the graph and a time period to be displayed.

10. A method of enhancing readability of a graph showing glucose values received from a continuous glucose monitoring device (CGM) on the display of a handheld device, the method comprising:

receiving a plurality of CGM glucose values in real time at a rate of one per minute;

drawing in real time a first CGM glucose curve on the display of the handheld for each received CGM value at the corresponding time until five CGM glucose values are received;

determining a first median, by a computer processor of the handheld device, if five received CGM values are centered about a first predetermined timestamp point;

replacing the first CGM glucose graph with a second CGM glucose graph, the second CGM glucose graph including the median at the predetermined time point; and

any received CGM glucose values after the predetermined timestamp point; and

drawing CGM glucose curve in real-time for at least a one-hour time period on the display.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising omitting from the determination of the median CGM curve any initial CGM glucose values that are received and not centered about the first predetermined timestamp point.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising storing the first median and associated first predetermined time point.

13. The method of claim 10, further comprising determining a plurality of timestamp points for a time period to be displayed.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising storing in a memory module of the handheld device a plurality of calculated median values for the plurality of the timestamp points.

15. The method of claim 13, further comprising storing in a memory module of the handheld device a plurality of calculated median values for seven consecutive days.

16. The method of claim 14, further comprising retrieving from the memory module the timestamps points and corresponding medians within a requested time period in the past and displaying a CGM glucose graph for the requested time period using the retrieved information.

17. A method of enhancing readability of a graph showing glucose values received from a continuous glucose monitoring device (CGM) on the display of a handheld device, the method comprising:

receiving a plurality of CGM glucose values at a rate of one per minute;

determining, by a computer processor of the handheld device, a plurality of median CGM glucose values, each median CGM glucose value determined from five consecutively received CGM glucose values that are centered about a predetermined timestamp point;

storing the median CGM glucose values and corresponding predetermined timestamp points; and

drawing a CGM glucose curve on the display of the handheld device for a requested past time period using the stored median CGM glucose values.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising determining a plurality of supporting pixel points for displaying the median CGM glucose values on the display from a pixel width of the graph for the requested time period.

19. The method of claim 17, further comprising omitting from the calculation of the median CGM glucose value any initial received CGM values not belonging to a five-minute interval that is centered about the predetermined timestamp point for the median CGM glucose value.

20. The method of claim 17, further comprising storing in a buffer of the handheld device up to sixty received most recently received CGM glucose values.
