Abstract

A system and method including a receiver and a transmitter. In one embodiment, the method includes transmitting a request signal including sensor measurement range information, and determining a sensor measurement range based on the request signal. A reply signal is transmitted from the transmitter to the receiver, the reply signal including a synchronization signal indicating a time base of the transmitter and data.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

transmitting a request signal including sensor measurement range information from a receiver to a transmitter;

determining at the transmitter a sensor measurement range based on the request signal; and

transmitting a reply signal from the transmitter to the receiver, the reply signal including a synchronization signal indicating a time base of the transmitter and data.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the data of the reply signal includes nibbles.

3. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

switching to a different measurement range based on the sensor measurement range information.

4. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

transmitting data in the specified measurement range based on the sensor measurement range information.

5. The method according to claim 1, further comprising providing a length of the request signal based on the sensor measurement range information.

6. A method comprising:

transmitting a request signal including sensor identification information from a receiver to a transmitter, the sensor identification identifying a first sensor of a plurality of sensors;

determining at the transmitter the sensor identification based on the received request signal; and

transmitting a reply signal from the transmitter to the receiver, the reply signal including a synchronization signal indicating a time base of the transmitter and data.

7. The method according to claim 6, wherein the data of the reply signal includes nibbles.

8. The method according to claim 6, further comprising:

providing a length of the request signal based on the sensor identification information.

9. A controller comprising:

a circuit configured to transmit a request signal over a communication path, the request signal including a sensor identification to identify a first sensor of a plurality of sensors;

the controller further configured to receive a reply signal, the received reply signal including a synchronization signal indicating a time base and data.

10. The controller according to claim 9, wherein the data includes nibbles.

11. The controller according to claim 9, wherein the sensor identification is coded into a length of the request signal.

12. The controller according to claim 9, wherein the controller is configured to obtain a time base based on a length of the synchronization signal.

13. The controller according to claim 9, wherein the controller is configured to provide a length of the request signal based on a selection of the first sensor.

14. The controller according to claim 13, wherein the controller is configured to obtain a time base for the first sensor based on a length of the synchronization signal.

15. The controller according to claim 14, wherein the controller recovers data by comparing a length of the received data in the reply signal with the obtained time base.

16. A controller comprising:

a circuit configured to transmit a request signal over a communication path, the request signal including sensor range information;

the controller further configured to receive a reply signal, the received reply signal including a synchronization signal indicating a time base and data.

17. The controller according to claim 16, wherein the data includes nibbles.

18. The controller according to claim 16, wherein the sensor range information is coded into a length of the request signal.

19. The controller according to claim 16, wherein the controller is configured to obtain a time base based on a length of the synchronization signal.

20. The controller according to claim 16, wherein the controller is further configured to transmit a request signal including a sensor identification to identify a first sensor of a plurality of sensors.

21. The controller according to claim 20, wherein the controller is configured to provide a length of the request signal based on a selection of the first sensor from a plurality of sensors.

22. The controller according to claim 21, wherein the controller is configured to obtain a time base for the first sensor based on a length of the synchronization signal.

23. The controller according to claim 22, wherein the controller recovers data by comparing a length of the received data in the reply signal with the obtained time base.
