Abstract

Systems and techniques for the collection and display of athletic information. Athletic data relating to a single person or group of people is collected at a central location, and subsequently displayed at a desired remote location so that the person or people can review and critique their performance. In addition, athletic data for multiple persons can be collected at a central location, and subsequently displayed to a user at a desired remote location, so that the user can compare his or her athletic activities to others.

Claims

1. A method of displaying athletic data, comprising:

receiving, by a computing device having at least one processor, a first athletic data set corresponding to athletic activity performed over a first time period;

receiving, by a computing device having at least one processor, a second athletic data set corresponding to athletic activity performed over a second time period different from the first time period; and

displaying, by a computing device having at least one processor, at least a portion of the first athletic data set simultaneously with at least a portion of the second athletic data set.

2. The method recited in claim 1, further comprising:

displaying a graph of values of a first type of data in the first athletic data set plotted against values of a second type of data in the first athletic data sets; and

displaying a graph of values of the first type of data in the second athletic data set plotted against values of the second type of data in the second athletic data set.

3. The method recited in claim 2, wherein

the first type of data is speed data, and

the second type of data is time data.

4. The method recited in claim 2, wherein:

the first type of data is distance data, and

the second type of data is time.

5. The method recited in claim 2, wherein the first athletic data set or the second athletic data set is received from one or more electronic devices selected from the group consisting of:

a digital music player, a telephone, a watch, a personal digital assistant, a pedometer, a bicycle monitor, a heart rate monitor, a blood-oxygen content monitor, and a remote storage device.

6. The method recited in claim 2, wherein the first athletic data set or the second athletic data set is received over a network.

7. The method recited in claim 2, wherein displaying the first graph includes rendering the first graph incrementally over time.

8. The method recited in claim 2, further comprising:

analyzing the first athletic data set to obtain first analysis results; and

displaying the first analysis results with the first athletic data set.

9. The method recited in claim 8, wherein the first analysis results include a mean or median of values for one or more types of data in the first athletic data sets.

10. The method recited in claim 8, wherein the analysis results are displayed at intervals along the graph.

11. The method recited in claim 2, further comprising receiving the second athletic data set by

reviewing a plurality of candidate athletic data sets in a storage medium, each candidate athletic data set corresponding to athletic activity performed over a time period;

identifying a candidate athletic data set having a desired data characteristic; and

receiving the identified candidate athletic data set as the second athletic data set.

12. The method recited in claim 11, wherein the desired data characteristic is a maximum value of a type of data.

13. The method recited in claim 12, wherein the desired data characteristic is a maximum value of a type of data selected from the group consisting of:

speed data, distance data, time data and caloric data.

14. The method recited in claim 11, wherein the desired data characteristic is a minimum value of a type of data.

15. The method recited in claim 11, wherein the desired data characteristic is a mean or median of values of a type of data.

16. The method recited in claim 11, further comprising receiving the second athletic data set by

reviewing a plurality of athletic data sets in a storage medium, each athletic data set corresponding to athletic activity performed over a time period;

from among the plurality of athletic data sets, identifying one or more candidate athletic data sets having a desired data value.

17. The method recited in claim 16, wherein the desired data value is a distance data value substantially matching a distance data value in the first athletic data set.

18. The method recited in claim 16, wherein the desired data value is a time data value substantially matching a time data value in the first athletic data set.

19. The method recited in claim 2, wherein

the first athletic data set corresponds to athletic activity performed by a first person;

and

the second athletic data set corresponds to athletic activity performed by a second person different from the first person.

20. The method recited in claim 19, further comprising receiving the second athletic data set by

receiving name information;

reviewing a plurality of athletic data sets in a storage medium;

from among the plurality of athletic data sets, identifying one or more candidate athletic data sets having both a name value matching the received name information and a desired data characteristic; and

receiving the identified candidate athletic data set as the second athletic data set.

21. The method recited in claim 1, further comprising:

displaying a first icon having a first property value that corresponds to a data characteristic of the first athletic data set; and

displaying a second icon having a second property value that corresponds to a data characteristic of the second athletic data set.

22. The method recited in claim 21, wherein the data characteristic is a maximum value of a type of data.

23. The method recited in claim 22, wherein the data type is selected from the group consisting of:

speed data, time data, distance data, and caloric data.

24. The method recited in claim 21, wherein the data characteristic is a minimum value of a type of data.

25. The method recited in claim 24, wherein the data type is selected from the group consisting of:

speed data, time data, distance data, and caloric data.

26. The method recited in claim 21, wherein the data characteristic is a mean or medium of values of a type of data.

27. The method recited in claim 1, further comprising partitioning each of the first and second athletic data sets into two or more groups based upon a calendar classification for the time period during which a respective athletic activity corresponding to a respective one of the first and second athletic data sets was performed.

28. The method recited in claim 27, wherein the calendar classification is selected from the group consisting of:

day, week, bi-week, month, quarter and year.

29. A method of displaying athletic data, comprising:

receiving new athletic data sets from a first source;

aggregating the new athletic data sets from the first source into a first accumulation of athletic data sets; and

;

displaying the first accumulation of athletic data sets simultaneously with a second accumulation of athletic data sets.

30. The method recited in claim 29, further comprising:

receiving new athletic data sets from a second source;

aggregating the new athletic data sets from the second source into the second accumulation of athletic data sets.

31. A method of displaying athletic data sets, comprising:

receiving athletic data sets from a plurality of different sources;

receiving selection information selecting a subset of the plurality of different sources; and

simultaneously displaying the received athletic data sets from the selected subset of the different sources.
