Abstract

Various embodiments are disclosed for a services policy communication system and method. In some embodiments, a network device publishes a test service profile to a group of communications devices, in which the test service profile provides for beta testing of the test service profile for a service on a network, and the test service profile includes service policy settings; and monitors use of the service by the group of communications devices based on the test service profile.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, at a service design system, accounting parameters of a first service plan, the accounting elements for accounting use of a network service;

generating a policy based on the accounting elements, the policy for assisting in the control of accounting the use of the network service by the communications device;

translating the policy to instructions;

providing the instructions to the communications device, the communications device capable of implementing the policy; and

providing information about the policy to a service integrity element capable of monitoring the implementing of the policy by the communications device by determining whether a first accounting measure at the communications device is within a tolerance of a second accounting measure.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the service integrity element is capable of performing a synchronization step before determining whether the first accounting measure is within a tolerance of the second accounting measure.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the tolerance is based on statistical measure.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the tolerance is based on the network service.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the tolerance is based on a category of the network service.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the second accounting measure is determined by a server device remote from the communications device.

7. A system comprising:

a user interface capable of receiving accounting parameters of a first service plan from a user, the accounting elements for accounting use of a network service;

policy-generating logic capable of generating a policy based on the accounting elements, the policy for assisting in the control of accounting for the use of the network service by the communications device, and capable of translating the policy to instructions; and

a communications interface capable of providing the instructions to the communications device, the communications device capable of implementing the policy, and providing information about the policy to a service integrity element capable of monitoring the implementing of the policy by the communications device by determining whether a first accounting measure at the communications device is within a tolerance of a second accounting measure.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein the service integrity element is capable of performing a synchronization step before determining whether the first accounting measure is within a tolerance of the second accounting measure.

9. The system of claim 7, wherein the tolerance is based on statistical measure.

10. The system of claim 7, wherein the tolerance is based on the network service.

11. The system of claim 7, wherein the tolerance is based on a category of the network service.

12. The system of claim 7, wherein the second accounting measure is determined by a server device remote from the communications device.
