Abstract

Embodiments relate to systems and methods for staged data migration between data sources and a cloud-based storage network. In aspects, a user can maintain a user premise network including servers, clients, local area networks, data stores, and/or other network assets. An administrator or other user of the premise network may wish to extract data from the premise network and transfer that data payload to a set of host storage clouds to leverage cost, redundancy, consolidation, or other cloud advantages. A cloud data delivery (CDD) service can be established to stage the upload of the data payload to the set of host storage clouds using a set of managed or dedicated lines to the CDD service, and to the host storage clouds at network edge. The connections between the premise network/CDD service and CDD service/host storage clouds can be selected and/or optimized to provide high-bandwidth connections tailored to the schedule, cost, or other requirements of the data payload to be transported.

Claims

1. A method of managing the transport of data to at least one host storage cloud, comprising:

receiving an identification of a data payload to be transported from a data source in a premise network to the at least one host storage cloud;

initiating the transport of the data payload from the premise network to a data distribution service via at least a set of dedicated staging connections;

storing the data payload in the data distribution service;

identifying a set of dedicated transport connections between the data distribution service and the at least one host storage cloud; and

initiating the transport of the data payload from the data distribution service to the at least one host storage cloud via the set of dedicated transport connections.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the data source in the premise network comprises a set of premise data stores.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the data payload comprises at least one of a set of selected databases, directories, or files stored in the set of premise data stores.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of dedicated staging connections comprises at least one of a wide area network (WAN), a metropolitan area network (MAN), or an optical network connection.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the data payload is stored in the data delivery service in a set of staged data stores.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the set of staged data stores are located within at least one of geographic proximity or network proximity of the set of premise data stores.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of dedicated transport connections comprises at least one of a wide area network (WAN), a metropolitan area network (MAN), or an optical network connection.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of host storage clouds comprises a set of local cloud data stores, and the data payload is transported from the data distribution service to the set of local cloud data stores via the set of dedicated transport connections.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the set of dedicated transport connections are located within at least one of geographic proximity or network proximity of the set of local data stores of the set of host storage clouds.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising managing the transport of the data payload from the data distribution service to the at least one host storage cloud based on a set of transport parameters.

The method of claim 10, wherein the set of transport parameters comprises at least one of a data transport schedule, a set of data transport initiation conditions, a set of security settings for the data payload, an identification of one or more of the set of dedicated staging connections, or an identification of one or more of the set of dedicated transport connections.

12. The method of claim 1, further comprising archiving or deleting data corresponding to the data payload after completion of the transport of the data payload from the data distribution service to the at least one host storage cloud.

13. The method of claim 1, further comprising registering the data payload to a file storage system after completion of the transport of the data payload from the data distribution service to the at least one host storage cloud.

14. The method of claim 1, further comprising archiving or deleting data corresponding to the data payload after completion of the transport of the data payload from the data distribution service to the at least one host storage cloud.

15. The method of claim 1, further comprising registering the data payload to a file storage system after completion of the transport of the data payload from the data distribution service to the at least one host storage cloud.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising providing access to the data payload to at least one of a set of applications or services via the file storage system used by the at least one host storage cloud.

17. A system for managing the transport of data to at least one host storage cloud, comprising:

an interface to a set of staged data stores associated with a data distribution service; and

a processor, communicating with the set of staged data stores via the interface, the processor being configured to—

receive an identification of a data payload to be transported from a data source in a premise network to the at least one host storage cloud,

initiate the transport of the data payload from the premise network to the data distribution service via at least a set of dedicated staging connections,

store the data payload in the set of staged data stores associated with the data distribution service,

identify a set of dedicated transport connections between the data distribution service and the at least one host storage cloud, and

initiate the transport of the data payload from the data distribution service to the at least one host storage cloud via the set of dedicated transport connections.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the data source in the premise network comprises a set of premise data stores.

19. The system of claim 17, wherein the set of dedicated staging connections comprises at least one of a wide area network (WAN), a metropolitan area network (MAN), or an optical network connection.

20. The system of claim 18, wherein the set of staged data stores are located within at least one of geographic proximity or network proximity of the set of premise data stores.

21. The system of claim 17, wherein the set of dedicated transport connections comprises at least one of a wide area network (WAN), a metropolitan area network (MAN), or an optical network connection.

22. The system of claim 17, wherein the set of host storage clouds comprises a set of local cloud data stores, and the data payload is transported from the data distribution service to the set of local cloud data stores via the set of dedicated transport connections.

23. The system of claim 22, wherein the set of dedicated transport connections are located within at least one of geographic proximity or network proximity of the set of local data stores of the set of host storage clouds.
