Abstract

An apparatus and method for providing augmented or mixed reality environments based on other user or third party information, such as from a profile, is disclosed. Also, an apparatus and method for providing a transparent display device with adaptive transparency is disclosed. The transparent display device with adaptive transparency may be used to generate the augmented reality environment.

Claims

1. An electronic device comprising:

a processor configured to receive over a network adapter a profile set by another user;

a camera configured to capture an image and provide the image to the processor;

the processor is configured to detect a person or object in the image and augment the person or object by overlaying another image on the person or object based on settings in the profile set by the another user; and

wherein the augmented person or object is displayed on a display device coupled to the processor.

2. The electronic device of claim 1 further comprising the display device having adaptively transparent portions that are selectively controlled to a clear or opaque state.

3. A method performed by an electronic device, the method comprising:

receiving by a processor over a network adapter a profile set by another user;

capturing by a camera an image;

providing the image to the processor;

detecting by the processor a person or object in the image and augmenting the person or object by overlaying another image on the person or object based on settings in the profile set by the another user; and

displaying the augmented person or object on a display device.

4. The method of claim 3 further comprising controlling adaptively transparent portions of the display device to a clear or opaque state.
