Abstract

A wearable device assembly has a housing supporting a controller, display and indicator system thereon. The controller has at least one sensor wherein activity of a user wearing the device is detected. The controller selectively illuminates the indicator system to indicate a level of activity of the user.

Claims

1. A wearable device comprising:

a user input device;

a sensor configured to detect physical activity of a user;

a first display; and

memory storing computer readable instructions that, when executed by the wearable device, cause the wearable device to;

receiving user input through the user input device;

determining a type of user input received through the user input device, wherein the type of user input corresponds to a type of interaction with the user input device;

activating a first display mode in response to determining that the type of user input is a first type; and

activating a second display mode in response to determining that the type of user input is a second type different from the first type, wherein the first display mode includes a first set of interfaces and the second display mode includes a second set of interfaces.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein the type of user input device is determined based on a duration of the user input.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein the first set of interfaces includes displays of activity metrics and wherein the second set of interfaces includes displays providing interaction functions.

4. The device of claim 1, wherein the first set of interfaces are scrolled onto the first display in a first direction and wherein the second set of interfaces are scrolled onto the first display in a second direction.

5. The device of claim 1, wherein activating the first mode includes displaying a countdown for an activity time period first when the user input is the first user input of the activity time period.

6. The device of claim 1, wherein activating the second mode includes scrolling through the second set of interfaces in response to a third type of user input.

7. The device of claim 1, further comprising a second display independently controllable from the first display.

8. The device of claim 1, wherein the second set of interfaces includes a functionality for adding a friend by communicating identification information with another device of the friend.

9. The device of claim 1, wherein the second set of interfaces includes a functionality for tagging detected activity with a location of the user, wherein tagging the location includes at least one of:

determining the location using one or more location determination components of the wearable device; and

requesting location information from a separate device, wherein the location information includes a location of the separate device.

10. A wearable device comprising:

a user input device;

a display; and

memory storing computer readable instructions that, when executed by the wearable device, cause the wearable device to;

receiving user input through the user input device, wherein the user input corresponds to a display mode comprising at least one of;

a set of interfaces providing interactive functions and a set of interface including a first set of activity metrics;

determining whether an evaluation time period has been completed, wherein the wearable device is configured to detect user activity during the evaluation time period; and

activating the display mode only in response to determining that the evaluation time period has been completed.

11. The wearable device of claim 10, wherein the first set of activity metrics includes at least one activity metric not included in a second set of activity metrics configured for display during the evaluation time period.

12. The wearable device of claim 10, wherein determining whether the evaluation time period has been completed includes determining whether the user activity detected during the evaluation time period has been synchronized with at least one other device.

13. The wearable device of claim 10, wherein the interactive functions including a tagging function for tagging detected activity with additional information and wherein the set of interfaces providing interactive functions includes at least one interface displaying a first indicator specifying that the additional information was stored and a second indicator specifying whether the additional information was successfully transmitted to another device.

14. The wearable device of claim 10, further comprising a communication interface for receiving an indication of a number of messages on another device.

15. The wearable device of claim 14, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the wearable device to display the number of messages on the display during the evaluation time period.

16. The wearable device of claim 14, wherein the communication interface is further configured to receive user profile information from another device prior to the start of the evaluation time period.

17. A wearable device comprising:

a user input device;

a first display;

a second display separately controlled from the first display; and

memory storing computer readable instructions that, when executed by the wearable device, cause the wearable device to;

receiving user input requesting display of an activity metric for activity performed by the user and detected by the wearable device;

displaying a first indication of the activity metric in the first display; and

displaying a second indication of the activity metric in the second display in conjunction with displaying the first indication.

18. The wearable device of claim 17, wherein the second indication indicates an amount of progress made toward an activity goal and wherein the wearable device is configured to store the activity goal in the memory.

19. The wearable device of claim 18, wherein the second display includes multiple segments, each segment representing a specified amount of progress toward the activity goal.

20. The wearable device of claim 17, wherein the indication of progress is color-coded based on the amount of progress.

21. The wearable device of claim 17, wherein the wearable device is configured to store a plurality of activity goals, each of the plurality of activity goals corresponding to a different activity metric.

22. The wearable device of claim 17, wherein the second indication includes a comparison of the user'"'"'s activity with activity performed by another user.

23. The wearable device of claim 22, wherein the second indication includes an indicator located at a position on the second display, wherein the position of the indicator specifies whether the user'"'"'s activity is ahead of or behind the other user'"'"'s activity.

24. The wearable device of claim 17, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the wearable device to:

determine an amount of the activity performed by the user;

increase a value of the activity metric based on the amount of activity performed;

determine an amount of inactivity of the user; and

decrease the value of the activity metric based on the determined amount of inactivity of the user.

25. The wearable device of claim 24, wherein decreasing the value of the activity metric includes determining an amount by which the value of the activity metric is to be decreased based on a physical position of the user during the inactivity.

26. The wearable device of claim 25, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the wearable device to determine a physical position of the user based on location information of at least one sensor device physically separate from the wearable device.

27. The wearable device of claim 24, wherein decreasing the value of the activity metric includes determining a level of inactivity, wherein an amount by which the value of the activity metric is decreased is set to a first amount when the level of inactivity is below a first threshold but above a second threshold and to a second amount when the level of inactivity is below the first and second thresholds.

28. The wearable device of claim 24, wherein decreasing the value of the activity metric includes determining an amount by which the value of the activity metric is to be decreased based on a time of day.

29. The wearable device of claim 24, wherein decreasing the value of the activity metric includes determining an amount by which the value of the activity metric is to be decreased based on a location of the user.

30. An apparatus comprising:

a processor; and

memory storing computer readable instructions that, when executed, cause the apparatus to;

establishing a communication link with a wearable activity monitoring device different from the apparatus;

receiving activity information from the wearable activity monitoring device, the activity information corresponding to recorded activity of a user of the wearable activity monitoring device;

determining whether the user of the wearable activity monitoring device exceeded an activity goal by a first threshold amount; and

in response to determining that the user exceeded the activity goal by the first threshold amount, awarding the user with a first activity reward.

31. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to award the user with a second activity reward in response to determining that the user exceeded the activity goal by a second threshold amount.

32. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:

generate a message including an indication of the first activity reward; and

transmit the message to a community site using an account of the user on the community site.

33. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:

receive configuration settings for the wearable device; and

configure the wearable device through the communication link based on the configuration settings.

34. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to generate a prompt to increase the activity goal in response to determining that the activity goal has been completed.

35. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:

determine a physical location of the wearable device; and

store the physical location in association with the activity information.

36. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:

determine a first activity type for a first portion of the activity information; and

store the first activity type in association with the first portion of the activity information.

37. The apparatus of claim 36, wherein determining the first activity type includes receiving a user indication of the first activity type.

38. The apparatus of claim 36, wherein determining the first activity type is based on a location where the first portion of the activity information was recorded.

39. The apparatus of claim 38, wherein the first activity type is determined from an activity type previously specified in association with the location.

40. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:

determine a second activity type for a second portion of the activity information and

store the second activity type in association with the second portion of the activity information.

41. The apparatus of claim 40, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:

generate a summary of the activity information including identification of a first amount of activity of the first activity type recorded and a second amount of activity of the second activity type recorded.

42. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to receiving a selection of an image to associate with the activity information.

43. The apparatus of claim 42, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:

receiving a user indication of a subjective feeling toward the user activity or performance of the user activity; and

storing the user indication of the subjective feeling with the image in association with the activity information.

44. An apparatus comprising:

a processor; and

memory storing computer readable instructions that, when executed, cause the apparatus to;

receiving activity information from a wearable activity monitoring device, the activity information corresponding to recorded activity of a user of the wearable activity monitoring device;

determining whether the user of the wearable activity monitoring device completed a current activity goal;

in response to determining that the user completed the current activity goal;

determining whether a first number of most recent consecutive activity goals, including the current activity goal, have been completed, wherein the first number of most recent consecutive activity goals is greater than or equal to 2; and

in response to determining that the first number of most recent consecutive activity goals have been completed, providing the user with a first reward.

45. The apparatus of claim 44, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:

determine whether a second number of most recent consecutive activity goals, including the current activity goal, have been completed, wherein the second number of most recent consecutive activity goals is greater than or equal to 2; and

in response to determining that the second number of most recent consecutive activity goals have been completed, provide the user with a second reward different from the first reward.

46. The apparatus of claim 44, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:

determine whether completion of the current activity goal corresponds to beginning a streak of completing activity goals, wherein the streak corresponds to completion of at least two consecutive activity goals.

47. The apparatus of claim 44, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:

determine that the user did not complete the current activity goal; and

determining whether non-completion of the current activity goal corresponds to breaking a streak of completing activity goals, wherein the streak corresponds to completion of at least two consecutive activity goals.

48. The apparatus of claim 44, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:

transmit an indication of the reward to the wearable activity monitoring device in response to determining that the first number of most recent consecutive activity goals have been completed.

49. The apparatus of claim 44, wherein the current activity goal includes a multi-user goal in which a first user is required to complete a first sub-goal and a second user is required to complete a second sub-goal.

50. The apparatus of claim 49, wherein an amount of activity by the first user in excess of the first sub-goal contributes to the second user'"'"'s completion of the second sub-goal.

51. An apparatus comprising:

a processor; and

memory operatively coupled to the processor and storing computer readable instructions that, when executed, cause the apparatus to;

determine an amount of physical activity performed by a user;

increase a value of an activity metric based on the amount of physical activity performed;

determine an amount of inactivity of the user; and

decrease the value of the activity metric based on the determined amount of inactivity of the user.

52. The apparatus of claim 51, wherein determining an amount of inactivity includes determining an amount of time during which the user exhibits a level of physical activity below a specified threshold.

53. The apparatus of claim 52, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to detect the physical activity of the user using an accelerometer.

54. The apparatus of claim 51, wherein decreasing the value of the activity metric includes determining an amount by which the value of the activity metric is to be decreased based on a physical position of the user during the inactivity.

55. The apparatus of claim 54, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to determine a physical position of the user based on location information of at least one sensor device physically separate from the apparatus.

56. The apparatus of claim 51, wherein decreasing the value of the activity metric includes determining a level of inactivity, wherein an amount by which the value of the activity metric is decreased is set to a first amount when the level of inactivity is below a first threshold but above a second threshold and to a second amount when the level of inactivity is below the first and second thresholds.

57. The apparatus of claim 51, wherein decreasing the value of the activity metric includes determining an amount by which the value of the activity metric is to be decreased based on a time of day.

58. The apparatus of claim 51, wherein decreasing the value of the activity metric includes determining an amount by which the value of the activity metric is to be decreased based on a location of the user.

59. The apparatus of claim 51, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to provide a warning when the user is within a predefined amount of time of the value of the activity metric decreasing.

60. The apparatus of claim 51, wherein the computer readable instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:

receiving user input specifying an amount of desired user inactivity; and

generating a recommendation for at least one of a duration and a type of physical activity to be performed by the user to compensate for the amount of desired user inactivity.
