Abstract

A social networking system generates a friendship page that displays social graph data common to two or more social networking system users. A user requests the page by identifying two or more social networking system. The social networking system obtains social graph data common to the identified social networking system users and generates a friendship page containing that social graph data. The obtained social graph data may include interactions between each of the identified user and/or social networking system objects with which each of the identified users has interacted. Examples of the types of social graph data may include photos, videos, communications, content items, events, locations, friends, family members, biographical data, and location data. The friendship page may be displayed to the requesting user in a web browser or in a native application.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for generating a friendship page illustrating a relationship between users of a social networking system, the method comprising:

maintaining in a data store social information about a plurality of users of a social networking system, a plurality of relationships among the users, and a plurality of actions of the users;

receiving an identification of two or more users of a social networking system from a device associated with a viewing user;

obtaining social information from the data store that is related to each of the identified users;

generating a friendship page containing the obtained social information that is related to each of the identified users; and

sending the generated friendship page to the device of the viewing user for display thereto.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein obtaining social information from the data store that is related to each of the two or more social networking system users comprises:

for each of the two or more social networking users, retrieving social information related to the social networking system user; and

selecting retrieved social information common to the two or more social networking system users.

The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein the social information related to a social networking system user comprises social networking system interactions of the social networking system user and social networking system objects with which the social networking system user has interacted.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein the social information common to the two or more social networking system users comprises an interaction between the two or more social networking system users.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein the social information common to the two or more social networking system users comprises an object with which each of the two or more social networking system users has interacted.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising:

retrieving at least one social networking system privacy rule for at least one social networking system user;

wherein generating the friendship page comprises restricting the obtained social information based on the at least one retrieved privacy rule.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the generated friendship page comprises a web page viewable with a web browser.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the friendship page comprises a page viewable within a native application.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein the identified social information common to the two or more social networking system users comprises pictures or videos of the two or more social networking system users.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein the identified social information common to the two or more social networking system users comprises communications between the two or more social networking system users.

11. The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein the identified social information common to the two or more social networking system users comprises events attended by the two or more social networking system users.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein the identified social information common to the two or more social networking system users comprises social networking system users associated with the two or more social networking system users.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein the identified social information common to the two or more social networking system users comprises biographical information common to the two or more social networking system users.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein the identified social information common to the two or more social networking system users comprises social networking system content items that each of the two or more social networking system users has interacted with.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein social information contained within the friendship page is ordered according to recency.

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein social information contained within the friendship page is ordered according to relevancy.

17. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising:

selecting a picture from the obtained social information that is related to each of the identified users based on relevancy; and

including the selected picture on the friendship page.

18. The computer-implemented method of claim 17, wherein selecting a picture based on relevancy comprises selecting a picture based on the social networking system users identified in the picture and social networking system user feedback on the picture.

19. A computer-implemented method for generating a friendship page illustrating a relationship between users of a social networking system, the method comprising:

maintaining in a data store social information about a plurality of users of a social networking system, a plurality of relationships among the users, and a plurality of actions of the users;

receiving an identification of two or more users of a social networking system from a device associated with a viewing user;

step for composing a friendship page that contains social information about the identified users; and

sending the friendship page to the device of the viewing user for display thereto.

20. The computer-implemented method of claim 19, wherein the social information about the identified users comprises at least one of:

pictures or videos of the identified users, communications between the identified users, events attended by the identified users, social networking system users associated with the identified users, biographical information common to the identified users, and content items interacted with by the identified users.
