Abstract

A system and methodology that facilitates efficient utilization of bandwidth on a transmission link between a base station and a core mobility network, during content delivery is provided. Moreover, the system includes a data storage device, adjunct to, or integrated within, the base station for storing content locally. Typically, the data storage device is updated by downloading content from the core network at an optimal time. For example, content can be downloaded to the data storage device when the core network-to-base station link is idle, under utilized and/or has sufficient bandwidth for the download. On receiving a request for content from a user equipment (UE), the base station can directly deliver the content to the UE from the data storage device, over an air interface, when the requested content is locally available.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

determining, by a system comprising a processor, motion data associated with motion of a user equipment;

facilitating, by the system, a transmission of the motion data from the user equipment to an access point to which the user equipment is coupled;

in response to at least a portion of the content being copied from a content source device communicatively coupled to the access point to a data store within the access point based on a timestamp associated with at least the portion of the content, receiving, by the system, at least the portion of the content from a content delivery device that is selected from the content source device and the data store based at least in part on the motion data.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the receiving includes, in response to the motion data being determined to satisfy a predefined speed criterion, receiving at least the portion of the content from the data store.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the receiving includes receiving, from the access point and in response to the motion data being determined to not satisfy a predefined speed criterion, at least the portion of the content from the content source device.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the access point is a first access point and the receiving includes:

in response to the user equipment being determined to be communicatively coupled to the first access point, receiving a first portion of the content from the data store, and

in response to a communicative coupling of the user equipment to the first access point being determined to be in a state of transfer to a second access point, receiving, via the second access point, a second portion of the content from the content source device.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the access point is a first access point, the data store is a first data store and the receiving includes:

in response to the user equipment being determined to be communicatively coupled to the first access point, receiving a first portion of the content from the first data store, and

in response to a communicative coupling of the user equipment to the first access point being determined to be in a state of transfer to a second access point, receiving, via the second access point, a second portion of the content from a second data store within the second access point.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the transmission is a first transmission and the method further comprises:

facilitating, by the system, a second transmission of a request to download the content.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the determining includes determining a speed of the user equipment.

13. The system of claim 7, wherein the processor further facilitates the execution of the computer-executable instructions to select the content to be requested to be downloaded to the data store based in part on a location determined for the access point.

14. The system of claim 7, wherein the processor further facilitates the execution of the computer-executable instructions to select the content to be requested to be downloaded to the data store based in part on a number of communication devices determined to be camped onto the access point.

15. The system of claim 7, wherein the processor further facilitates the execution of the computer-executable instructions to modify data within the data store based in part on a predefined replacement process.

8. A system, comprising:

a memory that stores computer-executable instructions; and

a processor, communicatively coupled to the memory, that facilitates execution of the computer-executable instructions to at least;

determine a timestamp associated with content stored within a content server;

based in part on the timestamp, request to download the content to a data store within a first access point;

in response to a first determination that a coupling of a user equipment to the first access point is not likely to be transferred from the first access point to a second access point, facilitate a first transfer of at least a portion of the content from the data store to the user equipment; and

in response to a second determination that the coupling of a user equipment to the first access point is likely to be transferred from the first access point to the second access point, facilitate a second transfer of at least the portion of the content from the content server to the user equipment.

The system of claim 8, wherein the processor further facilitates the execution of the computer-executable instructions to determine that the user equipment will not be transferred from the first access point to the second access point based in part on an analysis of motion data associated with the user equipment.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the processor further facilitates the execution of the computer-executable instructions to track a movement of the user equipment to facilitate a determination of the motion data.

11. The system of claim 9, wherein the motion data includes a speed of the user equipment.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the determination is based in part on a comparison of the speed of the user equipment with a predefined speed threshold.

16. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution, cause a system comprising a processor to perform operations, comprising:

requesting content, from a content server coupled to a telecommunication network, to be downloaded to a user equipment via a first access point; and

in response to at least a portion of the content being copied from the content server to a data store of the first access point in accordance with a timestamp associated with at least the portion of the content, receiving at least the portion of the content from a content delivery device that is selected from the content server and the data store based in part on determining a probability that the user equipment is not likely to be handed over from the first access point to a second access point of the telecommunication network.

17. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein the operations further comprise:

identifying motion data associated with a movement of the user equipment, wherein the motion data facilitates the determining

18. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the identifying includes determining a speed of the user equipment.

19. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein the receiving includes receiving at least the portion of the content from the content server, in response to the probability being determined to satisfy a predefined criterion.

20. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 18, wherein receiving includes receiving at least the portion of the content from the data store in response to the probability being determined to fail to satisfy the predefined criterion.
