Abstract

A method and power transmitter for efficiently controlling power transmission to one or more power receivers in a wireless multi-power transmission system are provided. The method includes performing, when a predetermined measurement cycle arrives, a load measurement; comparing a current load measurement value with a previous load measurement value; determining whether the current load measurement value is increased over the previous load measurement value by at least as much as a first predetermined threshold; gradually increasing, when the load measurement value is increased over the previous load measurement value by at least as much as the first threshold, a transmission power value until a request for a subscription to a wireless multi-power transmission network from a power reception target within a predetermined time limit; and stopping, when the request for the subscription is not received before the time limit is exceeded, power transmission to the power reception target.

Claims

1. A method of controlling power transmission for communication with at least one power receiver by a power transmitter, the method comprising:

performing, when a predetermined measurement cycle arrives, a load measurement;

comparing a current load measurement value corresponding to the load measurement with a previous load measurement value;

determining whether the current load measurement value is increased over the previous load measurement value by at least as much as a first predetermined threshold;

gradually increasing, when the load measurement value is increased over the previous load measurement value by at least as much as the first threshold, a transmission power value until a request for a subscription to a wireless multi-power transmission network from a power reception target within a predetermined time limit; and

stopping, when the request for the subscription is not received before the time limit is exceeded, power transmission to the power reception target.

2. The method as claimed in claim 1, further comprising:

determining whether the current load measurement value is decreased from the previous load measurement value by at least as much as a second predetermined threshold; and

determining, when the load measurement value is decreased from the previous load measurement value by at least as much as the second threshold, that the target of power reception disappears and stopping the power transmission to the power reception target.

The method as claimed in claim 1, further comprising determining, when the current load measurement value is increased over the previous load measurement value by at least as much as the first threshold, that the target of power reception is located in an effective charging area and increasing a value of transmission power to the power reception target.

4. The method as claimed in claim 3, wherein gradually increasing the transmission power value comprises:

determining whether the request for the subscription is received within the predetermined time limit after the transmission power value is increased;

increasing the transmission power value when the request for the subscription is not received within the predetermined time limit; and

determining whether the predetermined time limit is exceeded after the transmission power value increased.

5. The method as claimed in claim 4, further comprising increasing the transmission power value when the predetermined time limit is not exceeded.

6. The method as claimed in claim 4, further comprising maintaining the transmission power value when the request for the subscription is received within the predetermined time limit.

7. The method as claimed in claim 1, further comprising storing the current load measurement value as the previous measurement load measurement value after the transmission power value is increased.

8. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the request for the subscription contains at least one of an IDentification (ID) of the power reception target, a protocol version for communication, and a reference load value and a reference efficiency of the power reception target.

9. The method as claimed in claim 8, further comprising:

determining whether a load change through the load measurement is within a predetermined range in consideration of the reference load value contained in the request for the subscription;

determining that the power reception target having transmitted the request for the subscription is a non-intended of power reception when the load change exceeds the predetermined range; and

stopping power transmission to the determined non-intended power reception target.

10. A power transmitter for controlling power transmission for communication with at least one power receiver, the power transmitter comprising:

a communication unit for performing wireless communication;

a power supplier for supplying a power source to generate a resonance frequency signal determined by a controller;

a voltage/current measurement unit for measuring a voltage and a current of the generated resonance frequency signal;

a resonance signal generator for transmitting power transferred from the power supplier to at least one power receiver; and

the controller for controlling transmission of power for communication through the resonance signal generator when the voltage/current measurement unit detects a load change at least equal to a predetermined threshold, gradually increasing a transmission power value until a request for a subscription to a wireless multi-power transmission network is received within a predetermined time limit, and stopping transmission of the power to a power reception target when the request for the subscription is not received before the time limit is exceeded.

The power transmitter as claimed in claim 10, wherein the controller gradually increases the transmission power value until the request for the subscription to the wireless multi-power transmission network is received within the predetermined time limit when a current load measurement value measured by the voltage/current measurement unit is increased from a previous load measurement value by at least as much as a predetermined first threshold.

The power transmitter as claimed in claim 11, wherein the controller determines, when the current load measurement value is increased over the previous load measurement value by at least as much as the first threshold, that the target of power reception is located in an effective charging area and increases the transmission power value transmitted to the power reception target.

The power transmitter as claimed in claim 12, wherein the controller determines whether the request for the subscription is received within the predetermined time limit after the transmission power is increased, increases the transmission power value when the request for the subscription is not received within the predetermined time limit, and then determines whether the predetermined time limit is exceeded.

14. The power transmitter as claimed in claim 13, wherein the controller increases the transmission power value upon a determination that the predetermined time limit is not exceeded.

15. The power transmitter as claimed in claim 13, wherein the controller maintains the transmission power value when the request for the subscription is received within the predetermined time limit.

16. The power transmitter as claimed in claim 11, wherein the controller controls storing of the current load measurement value as the previous measurement load measurement value after the transmission power value is increased.

17. The method as claimed in claim 10, wherein the request for the subscription contains at least one of an IDentification (ID) of the power reception target, a protocol version for communication, and a reference load value and a reference efficiency of the power reception target.

The method as claimed in claim 17, wherein the controller determines whether a load change through the load measurement is within a predetermined range in consideration of the reference load value contained in the request for the subscription, and when the load change exceeds the predetermined range, the controller determines that the power reception target having transmitted the request for the subscription is a non-intended of power reception and stops power transmission to the determined non-intended power reception target.
