Abstract

A method and apparatus for controlling content based on a timeline in a timeline-based content control apparatus with a touch screen. The method includes generating and displaying a linear timeline bar on the touch screen regardless of the size of content; detecting contact on the timeline bar; nonlinearly distorting a predetermined section of the timeline bar being displayed around the touch-detected position on the timeline bar; and performing a fine search and shifting the distorted section depending on a direction of the user'"'"'s touch.

Claims

1. A method for controlling an output of content based on a timeline in a timeline-based content control apparatus with a touch screen, comprising:

generating by a controller and displaying by a touchscreen a linear timeline bar on the touch screen regardless of a size or a duration of content;

detecting by the controller a touch on the timeline bar;

nonlinearly distorting a predetermined section around the touch-detected position on the timeline bar; and

performing a fine search and shifting the distorted section depending on a direction of the user'"'"'s touch.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the nonlinearly distorting comprises distorting a display of the predetermined section of the timeline bar in a form of a curve.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein a display of the predetermined section of the timeline bar is distorted in a form of at least one of a zigzag curve or a spiral or a spring.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the nonlinearly distorting comprises distorting a display of the predetermined section of the timeline bar in a form of a plurality of broken lines.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the nonlinearly distorting comprises nonlinearly distorting a length section which is specified forward and backward in a direction of the linear timeline bar at around the touch-detected position.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the nonlinearly distorting comprises nonlinearly distorting a time section which is specified forward and backward in a direction of the linear timeline bar at around the touch-detected position.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the nonlinearly distorting comprises nonlinearly distorting display of the predetermined section when the detected touch remains at a same position of the touchscreen for a predetermined duration or longer.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the nonlinearly distorting comprises increasing an amount of distortion of the nonlinearly distorted predetermined section on the linear timeline bar based on a time that the detected touch remains at the same position of the touch screen.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein the nonlinearly distorting comprises varying a range of the nonlinearly distorted predetermined section and a strength of the distortion depending on the duration that the detected touch remains at the same position of the touchscreen.

10. The method of claim 7, wherein the nonlinearly distorting comprises varying a range of the nonlinearly distorted predetermined section and a strength of the distortion on the linear timeline bar depending on a time for which the detected touch remains at the same position of the touchscreen.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the nonlinearly distorting comprises nonlinearly distorting display of the predetermined section on the linear timeline bar when a predetermined event trigger occurs.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the predetermined event trigger occurs when the detected touch occurs at a predetermined pressure or more, when a specific gesture is detected, or when a double touch id detected on substantially the same position of the touchscreen.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the nonlinearly distorting comprises varying a strength of the nonlinear distortion displayed depending on a size of content that corresponds to a length of the linear timeline bar.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the performing a fine search of the content and shifting the distorted section comprises:

determining whether the detected touch is shifted in a same direction as a direction of the linear timeline bar;

searching for a position of the content corresponding to the detected-touch position in the distorted predetermined section of the timeline bar, if the detected touch is shifted in a direction different from a direction of the linear timeline bar; and

shifting display of the distorted section in a shift direction of the detected touch, if the detected touch is shifted in the same direction as the direction of the linear timeline bar.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the content comprises at least one of:

consecutive data of volume, brightness and chroma;

a video clip; and

an audio clip.

16. A timeline-based content control apparatus, comprising:

a touch screen that displays a linear timeline bar regardless of a size or a duration of content when the touchscreen detects a touch on a surface displaying the timeline bar while outputting content;

a distortion generator configured for nonlinearly distorting a predetermined section of the displayed timeline bar around a predetermined area of the touch-detected position on the timeline bar; and

a controller configured for generating and controlling a display of the timeline bar by the touchscreen and for changing a display of a distorted section on the timeline bar or shifting a timeline slider depending a sensed selection gesture corresponding to the shape of the timeline bar;

a command unit configured for performing a fine search of the content and shifting the distorted section depending on a sensed direction of a sliding contact on the touchscreen.

17. The apparatus according to claim 16, wherein the content comprises at least one of:

consecutive data of volume, brightness and chroma,

a video clip; and

an audio clip.

18. The apparatus according to claim 16, wherein the distortion generator is configured for distorting a display of the predetermined section of the timeline bar in a form of a curve.

19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the display of the predetermined section of the timeline bar is distorted in a form of at least one of a zigzag curve or a spiral or a spring.

20. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein an amount of distortion of the nonlinearly distorted predetermined section on the linear timeline bar increases based on a time that the detected touch remains at the same position of the touch screen.

21. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein a range of the nonlinearly distorted predetermined section and a strength of the distortion are varied depending on the duration that the detected touch remains at the same position of the touch screen.
