Abstract

In some aspects, a cellular telephone includes (1) a user interface portion having a communications circuit; and (2) a cellular portion having a first communications circuit adapted to communicate with the communications circuit of the user interface portion and a second communications circuit adapted to communicate with a cellular network. The cellular portion is removably coupled to the user interface portion so as to allow a user of the cellular telephone to communicate over a cellular network by using the user interface portion while the cellular portion is separated from the user interface portion. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a low radiation handset; and

a cellular unit separate from the low radiation handset and adapted to communicate with the low radiation handset and to allow the low radiation handset to communicate over a cellular network.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein the low radiation handset is a cellular telephone in a low radiation mode of operation.

3. The system of claim 2 wherein the cellular telephone is adapted to detect the presence of the cellular unit.

4. The system of claim 3 wherein the cellular telephone is adapted to automatically switch to a low radiation mode after detecting the presence of the cellular unit.

5. The system of claim 1 wherein the low radiation handset and the cellular unit are adapted to communicate with each other via WiFi.

6. The system of claim 1 wherein the cellular unit is adapted to couple to a wireless router.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein the cellular unit employs a maximum electromagnetic radiation power level greater than permissible for a cellular telephone.

8. A cellular telephone comprising:

a user interface portion having a communications circuit; and

a cellular portion having a first communications circuit adapted to communicate with the communications circuit of the user interface portion and a second communications circuit adapted to communicate with a cellular network;

wherein the cellular portion is removably coupled to the user interface portion so as to allow a user of the cellular telephone to communicate over a cellular network by using the user interface portion while the cellular portion is separated from the user interface portion.

9. The cellular telephone of claim 8 wherein the user interface portion includes a display, a battery and a low radiation level communications circuit.

10. The cellular telephone of claim 9 wherein the cellular portion includes a plug for connecting the cellular portion to a line voltage.

11. A method comprising:

providing a cellular telephone having;

a user interface portion having a communications circuit; and

a cellular portion having a first communications circuit adapted to communicate with the communications circuit of the user interface portion and a second communications circuit adapted to communicate with a cellular network;

detaching the cellular portion from the user interface portion; and

using the user interface portion to place a cellular telephone call when the cellular portion is detached from the user interface portion.
