Abstract

Although an organic resin substrate is highly effective at reducing the weight and improving the shock resistance of a display device, it is required to improve the moisture resistance of the organic resin substrate for the sake of maintaining the reliability of an EL element. Hard carbon films are formed to cover a surface of the organic resin substrate and outer surfaces of a sealing member. Typically, DLC (Diamond like Carbon) films are used as the carbon films. The DLC films have a construction where carbon atoms are bonded into an SP³ bond in terms of a short-distance order, although the films have an amorphous construction from a macroscopic viewpoint. The DLC films contain 95 to 70 atomic % carbon and 5 to 30 atomic % hydrogen, so that the DLC films are very hard and minute and have a superior gas barrier property and insulation performance.

Claims

1. An electronic equipment comprising:

a main body including a display surface; and

an active matrix type display device incorporated into the main body so as to display an image on the display surface,

wherein the active matrix type display device includes an electro-luminescent material between a first substrate and a second substrate, and

wherein the display surface is recessed.

2. The electronic equipment according to claim 1, wherein the electronic equipment is one of a cellular phone and a digital camera.

3. The electronic equipment according to claim 1, wherein the first substrate and the second substrate are bent along the recessed display surface.

4. The electronic equipment according to claim 1, wherein the first substrate and the second substrate are an organic resin substrate.

5. The electronic equipment according to claim 1, wherein a back side of the main body opposed to the display surface is bent.

6. An electronic equipment comprising:

a main body including a display surface; and

an active matrix type display device incorporated into the main body so as to display an image on the display surface,

wherein the active matrix type display device includes an electro-luminescent material between a first substrate and a second substrate, and

wherein the display surface is recessed, and the main body is bent along the recessed display surface.

7. The electronic equipment according to claim 6, wherein the electronic equipment is one of a cellular phone and a digital camera.

8. The electronic equipment according to claim 6, wherein the first substrate and the second substrate are bent along the recessed display surface.

9. The electronic equipment according to claim 6, wherein the first substrate and the second substrate are an organic resin substrate.

10. The electronic equipment according to claim 6, wherein a back side of the main body opposed to the display surface is bent.

11. An electronic equipment comprising:

a main body including a display surface;

an active matrix type display device incorporated into the main body so as to display an image on the display surface; and

a touch sensor so that a user operates buttons on the display surface,

wherein the active matrix type display device includes an electro-luminescent material between a first substrate and a second substrate, and

wherein the display surface is recessed.

12. The electronic equipment according to claim 11, wherein the electronic equipment is one of a cellular phone and a digital camera.

13. The electronic equipment according to claim 11, wherein the first substrate and the second substrate are bent along the recessed display surface.

14. The electronic equipment according to claim 11, wherein the first substrate and the second substrate are an organic resin substrate.

15. The electronic equipment according to claim 11, wherein a back side of the main body opposed to the display surface is bent.

16. An electronic equipment comprising:

a main body including a display surface; and

an active matrix type display device incorporated into the main body so as to display an image on the display surface,

the active matrix type display device comprising;

a first substrate;

a thin film transistor over the first substrate;

an interlayer insulating film comprising an organic resin over the thin film transistor;

a first electrode over the interlayer insulating film;

a light-emitting layer including an organic compound over the first electrode;

a second electrode over the light-emitting layer;

a first sealing member around a pixel portion of the active matrix type display device;

a second sealing member outside and along the first sealing member; and

a second substrate over the second electrode,

wherein the display surface is recessed.

17. The electronic equipment according to claim 16, wherein the electronic equipment is one of a cellular phone and a digital camera.

18. The electronic equipment according to claim 16, wherein the first substrate and the second substrate are bent along the recessed display surface.

19. The electronic equipment according to claim 16, wherein the first substrate and the second substrate are an organic resin substrate.

20. The electronic equipment according to claim 16, wherein a back side of the main body opposed to the display surface is bent.

21. The electronic equipment according to claim 16, wherein the main body is bent along the recessed display surface.

22. The electronic equipment according to claim 16, further comprising a touch sensor so that a user operates buttons on the display surface.

23. The electronic equipment according to claim 16, wherein the second sealing member does not extend beyond an edge of the first substrate and the second substrate.

24. The electronic equipment according to claim 16, wherein the first sealing member does not overlap the interlayer insulating film.

25. The electronic equipment according to claim 16, wherein the first electrode is a cathode and the second electrode is an anode.

26. An electronic equipment comprising:

a main body; and

an active matrix type display device incorporated into the main body,

wherein the active matrix type display device includes an electro-luminescent material between a first substrate and a second substrate,

wherein an outer surface of the main body is recessed and curved, and

wherein the electro-luminescent material emits light through the outer surface of the main body.

27. The electronic equipment according to claim 26, wherein the electronic equipment is one of a cellular phone and a digital camera.

28. The electronic equipment according to claim 26, wherein the first substrate and the second substrate are bent along the outer surface of the main body.

29. The electronic equipment according to claim 26, wherein the first substrate and the second substrate are an organic resin substrate.

30. The electronic equipment according to claim 26, wherein a back side of the main body opposed to the outer surface is bent.

31. A cellular phone comprising:

an active matrix type display device incorporated into the cellular phone,

wherein the active matrix type display device includes an electro-luminescent material between a first substrate and a second substrate,

wherein an outer surface of the cellular phone is recessed and curved, and

wherein the electro-luminescent material emits light through the outer surface of the cellular phone.

32. The cellular phone according to claim 31, wherein the first substrate and the second substrate are bent along the outer surface of the cellular phone.

33. The cellular phone according to claim 31, wherein the first substrate and the second substrate are an organic resin substrate.

34. The cellular phone according to claim 31, wherein a back side of the cellular phone opposed to the outer surface is bent.
