Abstract

A hollow body is made from a flat baked wafer cake by first juxtaposing the wafer cake with a cavity of a deep-drawing mold and then forming edge regions of the cake with a plurality of deformations out of a plane of the cake at a uniformly spacing around a periphery of the cake. Then the cake is pushed by a deep-drawing punch into the cavity to it into a hollow body and to form each of the deformations into a multilayer fold.

Claims

1. A method of making a hollow body from a flat baked wafer cake, the method comprising the steps of sequentially:

juxtaposing the wafer cake with a cavity of a deep-drawing mold;

forming edge regions of the cake with a plurality of deformations out of a plane of the cake at a uniformly spacing around a periphery of the cake; and

pushing the cake with a deep-drawing punch into the cavity and thereby deforming the cake into a hollow body and forming each of the deformations into a multilayer fold.

2. The method defined in claim 1, wherein the wafer cake is juxtaposed by being laid on the mold over the cavity thereof, the deformations being wavy bulges.

3. The method defined in claim 1, wherein the hollow body is a cup.

4. The method defined in claim 3, wherein the deformations are initially of Ω

-section and subsequently are flattened into multiple layers atop one another.

5. The method defined in claim 1, wherein the punch deforms the flat cake to an extent equal to a multiple of its thickness.

6. The method defined in claim 1, further comprising the steps prior to juxtaposing the cake with the cavity of:

feeding the cake along a transfer surface to the deep-drawing mold; and

centering the cake over the deep-drawing cavity with centering bosses.

7. The method defined in claim 1 wherein the cake is cooled and solidified as it is deformed by the punch, the method comprising a final step of:

ejecting the body from the mold with an ejector.

8. The method defined in claim 1, further comprising the step of

holding the cake on the mold after juxtaposing the cake with the cavity and during deformation of the cake by the punch.

9. The method defined in claim 1, wherein the punch is moved in a straight line as it deforms the cake.

10. The method defined in claim 1, wherein the flat wafer cake consists of a dough or a baking mass that contains sugar, erythrol or xylite.

11. A hollow baked body produced by the method of claim 1 such that the body has distributed around its circumference a plurality of uniformly spaced and substantially identical multilayer folds.

12. The baked body defined in claim 11, wherein the folds extend substantially perpendicular to a rim of the cup toward a floor of the cup.

13. The baked body defined in claim 11, wherein the folds are at least double-layered.

14. An apparatus for making a hollow body from a flat baked wafer cake, the apparatus comprising:

a deep-drawing mold having a cavity;

means juxtaposing the wafer cake with the cavity of the deep-drawing mold;

means for forming edge regions of the cake with a plurality of deformations out of a plane of the cake at a uniformly spacing around a periphery of the cake;

a punch engageable into the cavity; and

actuator means for pushing the cake with a deep-drawing punch into the cavity and thereby deforming the cake into a hollow body and forming each of the deformations into a multilayer fold.

15. The apparatus defined in claim 14, the means for forming the deformations includes a plaited of preshaping formations uniformly spaced on the mold around the cavity.

16. The apparatus defined in claim 14, wherein an upper face of the mold is defined by a drawing ring.

17. The apparatus defined in claim 14, further comprising:

a transfer surface level with the ring; and

means for sliding the cake along the surface onto the ring.

18. The apparatus defined in claim 14, further comprising a plurality of centering bosses spaced on the die around the cavity and projecting upward above an upper face of the die.

19. The apparatus defined in claim 14, wherein the means for forming includes a plurality of lifters raisable above the die around the cavity.

20. The apparatus defined in claim 14, further comprising

means for raising the lifters above the die after the cake is juxtaposed with the die.
