Abstract

In one embodiment, a user places a mobile device (e.g., a smart phone) facing downward on a table. A process running on the mobile device determines an orientation of the mobile device (i.e., a facing downward orientation), and determines that the mobile device has been in the facing downward orientation for over a threshold period of time (e.g., 3 seconds), then the process automatically selects a “Quiet” notification profile, and turn off the mobile device'"'"'s display, without additional input from the user.

Claims

1. An apparatus of a first user, comprising:

a device housing;

a memory;

one or more main processors;

one or more sensors;

a first display disposed on a front side of the device housing;

a program comprising computer-readable instructions operative, when executed, to cause the one or more processors to;

determine an orientation of the apparatus;

transition the apparatus to a select notification profile in response to occurrence of one or more conditions; and

select the notification profile from a plurality of notification profiles based on the determined orientation of the apparatus.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein:

a first condition of the one or more conditions is a first orientation of the apparatus; and

a second condition of the one or more conditions is the apparatus being in the first orientation for a threshold period of time.

3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the first orientation is a facing downward orientation.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein:

a first condition of the one or more conditions is a first orientation of the apparatus, the first orientation being a facing downward orientation;

a second condition of the one or more conditions is the apparatus being in the first orientation for a threshold period of time; and

the select notification profile is a quiet notification profile.

5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the program further comprises computer-readable instructions operative to cause the one or more processors to:

transition the first display to a lower power state.

6. The apparatus of claim 4 further comprising a second display disposed on a backside of the device housing, wherein the program further comprises computer-readable instructions operative to cause the one or more processors to:

transition the first display to a lower power state;

accessing one or more data stores for one or more contents; and

display the one or more contents in a graphic user interface in the second display.

7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein:

the one or more contents comprise the first user'"'"'s current location information; and

the graphic user interface comprise a map including the one or more contents.

8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the one or more contents further comprise current location information of the first user'"'"'s social contacts.

9. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the one or more contents comprise one or more newsfeeds.

10. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the one or more contents comprise one or more publications.

11. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein:

the one or more contents comprise one or more media contents; and

the graphic user interface comprises a media reel displaying the one or more media contents.

12. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein:

the one or more contents comprise caller identification information of an incoming call.

13. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein:

a first condition of the one or more conditions is a first orientation of the apparatus;

a second condition of the one or more conditions is the apparatus being in the first orientation while in a communication session;

a third condition of the one or more conditions is a second orientation of the apparatus, the second orientation being a facing downward orientation and different from the first orientation;

a forth condition of the one or more conditions is the apparatus being in the second orientation after being in the first orientation; and

the select notification profile is a quiet profile.

14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the program further comprises computer-readable instructions operative to cause the one or more processors to:

suspend the communication session.

15. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the program further comprises computer-readable instructions operative to cause the one or more processors to:

terminate the communication session.

16. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein:

a first condition of the one or more conditions is a first orientation of the apparatus, the first orientation being a facing downward orientation;

a second condition of the one or more conditions is the apparatus being in the first orientation while receiving an incoming call;

a third condition of the one or more conditions is a second orientation of the apparatus, the second orientation is a facing upward or vertical orientation;

a forth condition of the one or more conditions is the apparatus being in the second orientation after being in the first orientation; and

the select notification profile is a communication profile.

17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the program further comprises computer-readable instructions operative to cause the one or more processors to:

connect the incoming call.

18. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the program further comprises computer-readable instructions operative to cause the one or more processors to:

access one or more data stores for caller identification information; and

display the caller identification information in the first display.

19. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plurality of notification profiles further comprises at least one pre-configured notification profile.
