Abstract

A display system includes a display and a control circuit operable with the display. The display is configured to provide visual output having a presentation orientation. When user input is received, the control circuit can alter the presentation orientation from an initial orientation in response to user input. When non-user events or device events are detected, the control circuit can revert the presentation orientation to the initial orientation in response to the non-user event or device event. Where the presentation orientation has a user input configuration associated therewith, the user input configuration can either be altered with the presentation orientation or retained in an initial disposition.

Claims

1. A display system, comprising:

a display configured to provide visual output having a presentation orientation on the display;

a user interface component associated with the visual output, a control circuit coupled to the display, the control circuit being operable to;

alter the presentation orientation from an initial orientation in response to user input; and

retain at least a portion of the user interface component in an initial disposition when the presentation orientation is altered in response to the user input.

2. The display system of claim 1, wherein the control circuit is configured to alter at least another portion of the user interface component, while retaining the at least a portion of the user interface component, when altering the presentation orientation.

3. The display system of claim 1, wherein the initial disposition comprises an orientation fixed relative to the display.

4. The display system of claim 1, wherein the initial disposition comprises a bearing fixed in three dimensional space.

5. The display system of claim 1, wherein the control circuit is operable to revert the presentation orientation to the initial orientation in response to a non-user input event.

6. The display system of claim 5, wherein the non-user input event is user definable.

7. The display system of claim 5, further comprising user wellness sensors operable with the control circuit, wherein the non-user input event comprises a detected user wellness condition sensed by the user wellness sensors.

8. The display system of claim 5, wherein the control circuit is operable to present a prompt on the display after reverting the presentation orientation to the initial orientation.

9. The display system of claim 1, wherein the control circuit is configured to retain all of the user interface component in the initial disposition when the presentation orientation is altered in response to the user input.

10. The display system of claim 1, wherein the control circuit is configured to alter one of a color, a resolution, a scaling, or a magnification of the visual output upon altering the presentation orientation in response to the user input.

11. The display system of claim 1, wherein the user input comprises one of audio input, touch input on the display, actuation of an input control device operable with the control circuit, a sensed gesture, a light-sensed user action, or an infrared-sensed user action.

12. The display system of claim 1, further comprising an input control device coupled to the control circuit, wherein the control circuit is operable to alter the presentation orientation by a predetermined rotation amount when the input control device is actuated.

13. The display system of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of audio input devices responsive to the control circuit, wherein the control circuit is operable to switch between audio input devices upon altering the presentation orientation in response to the user input.

14. The display system of claim 1, further comprising a directable audio output responsive to the control circuit, wherein the control circuit is operable to redirect output audio upon altering the presentation orientation in response to the user input.

15. A electronic device, comprising:

a housing;

a display disposed on the housing;

a presentation module operable with the display and configured to;

alter a presentation orientation of visual output from an initial orientation in response to receiving user input; and

retain an initial disposition of a user interface component while altering the presentation orientation.

16. The electronic device of claim 15, wherein the housing comprises a wearable housing.

17. The electronic device of claim 16, further comprising a motion detector, wherein the user input comprises user motion sensed by the motion detector.

18. The electronic device of claim 16, wherein the electronic device is configured to be wrist-wearable.

19. A method in an electronic device of orienting images on a display of a device, comprising:

receiving, from a user interface, user input;

altering a presentation orientation of visual output on the display in response to the receiving; and

maintaining an initial disposition of at least a portion of a user input configuration on the user interface during the altering.

20. The method of claim 19, further comprising reverting both the presentation orientation of the visual output on the display to an initial orientation and another portion of the user input configuration to the initial disposition in response to either another user input or a non-user event.
