Abstract

Navigating on a display includes tracking motion of an input tool on a display, comparing a motion of the input tool to a threshold, and changing a position of the visible portion of a page of information on the display if the input tool motion exceeds the threshold. The position of the visible portion of the page of information on the display is constrained if the motion does not exceed the threshold.

13. A method comprising:

receiving data representative of content to be displayed within a display window associated with a computing device, wherein the content comprises a plurality of portions;

displaying, by way of the display window, a first portion from the plurality of portions of the content;

enabling, using at least one processor, one or more navigation controls operable to navigate between the plurality of portions of the content;

detecting an interaction with the one or more navigation controls; and

changing, in response to the detected interaction, a viewable portion of the content from the first portion of the content to a second portion of the content.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the one or more navigation controls comprise one or more selectable graphical interface elements.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the one or more selectable graphical interface elements comprise one or more selectable icons.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein each of the one or more navigation controls corresponds to one of the plurality of portions of the content.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein each of the one or more navigation controls is operable to view a corresponding portion of the content.

18. The method of claim 13, wherein enabling the one or more navigation controls comprises enabling the one or more navigation controls in accordance with one or more user preferences.

19. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

detecting a number of the plurality of portions of the content; and

enabling a number of the one or more navigation controls equal to the detected number of the plurality of portions of the content.

20. The method of claim 13, wherein the content comprises a web page.

21. The method of claim 13, wherein changing the viewable portion of the content from the first portion to the second portion comprises repositioning the viewable portion of the content away from the first portion and towards the second portion.

22. The method of claim 13, wherein:

enabling the one or more navigation controls comprises displaying the one or more navigation controls by way of a touch screen; and

detecting the interaction with the one or more navigation controls comprises detecting contact with the touch screen relative to the one or more navigation controls.

23. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium including a set of instructions that, when executed, cause at least one processor to perform steps comprising:

receiving data representative of content to be displayed within a display window associated with a computing device, wherein the content comprises a plurality of portions;

displaying, by way of the display window, a first portion from the plurality of portions of the content;

enabling, using at least one processor, one or more navigation controls operable to navigate between the plurality of portions of the content;

detecting an interaction with the one or more navigation controls; and

changing, in response to the detected interaction, a viewable portion of the content from the first portion of the content to a second portion of the content.

24. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 23, wherein the one or more navigation controls comprise one or more selectable graphical interface elements.

25. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 24, wherein the one or more selectable graphical interface elements comprise one or more selectable icons.

26. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 24, wherein each of the one or more navigation controls corresponds to one of the plurality of portions of the content.

27. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 26, wherein each of the one or more navigation controls is operable to view a corresponding portion of the content.

28. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 27, wherein enabling the one or more navigation controls comprises enabling the one or more navigation controls in accordance with one or more user preferences.

29. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 27, further comprising instructions that, when executed, cause at least one processor to perform steps comprising:

detecting a number of the plurality of portions of the content; and

enabling a number of the one or more navigation controls equal to the detected number of the plurality of portions of the content.

30. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 29, wherein the content comprises a web page.

31. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 30, wherein changing the viewable portion of the content from the first portion to the second portion comprises repositioning the viewable portion of the content away from the first portion and towards the second portion.

32. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 31, wherein:

enabling the one or more navigation controls comprises displaying the one or more navigation controls by way of a touch screen; and

detecting the interaction with the one or more navigation controls comprises detecting contact with the touch screen relative to the one or more navigation controls.

33. A device comprising:

a touch screen display;

at least one non-transitory computer readable storage medium; and

at least one processor programmed to;

receive data representative of content to be displayed within a display window on the touch screen display, wherein the content comprises a plurality of portions;

display, by way of the display window, a first portion from the plurality of portions of the content;

enable, using at least one processor, one or more navigation controls operable to navigate between the plurality of portions of the content;

detect an interaction with the one or more navigation controls; and

change, in response to the detected interaction, a viewable portion of the content from the first portion of the content to a second portion of the content.

34. The device of claim 33, wherein the one or more navigation controls comprise one or more selectable graphical interface elements.

35. The device of claim 34, wherein the one or more selectable graphical interface elements comprise one or more selectable icons.

36. The device of claim 33, wherein each of the one or more navigation controls corresponds to one of the plurality of portions of the content.

37. The device of claim 36, wherein each of the one or more navigation controls is operable to view a corresponding portion of the content.

38. The device of claim 33, wherein enabling the one or more navigation controls comprises enabling the one or more navigation controls in accordance with one or more user preferences.

39. The device of claim 33, further comprising:

detecting a number of the plurality of portions of the content; and

enabling a number of the one or more navigation controls equal to the detected number of the plurality of portions of the content.

40. The device of claim 33, wherein the content comprises a web page.

41. The device of claim 33, wherein changing the viewable portion of the content from the first portion to the second portion comprises repositioning the viewable portion of the content away from the first portion and towards the second portion.

42. The device of claim 33, wherein detecting the interaction with the one or more navigation controls comprises detecting contact with the touch screen display relative to the one or more navigation controls.
