Abstract

Computer-readable media, computer systems, and computing devices for enabling a user to view content related to an item within media content is provided. In one embodiment, a tagging gesture that indicates a user interest in an item presented within media content displayed to the user is detected. Such a tagging gesture can define a region of displayed content having the item. In response to detecting the tagging gesture, an advertisement provided by a third party that is related to the item is presented.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method of facilitating a view of content related to items within media content, the method comprising:

under control of one or more processors configured with computer-executable instructions;

detecting a tagging gesture that indicates a user interest in art item presented within media content displayed to the user, the tagging gesture defining a region of displayed content having the item; and

in response to detecting the tagging gesture, presenting an advertisement provided by a third party that is related to the item.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein detecting the tagging gesture comprises detecting a touch input on a touch screen or a touch pad

3. The method of claim 1, wherein detecting the tagging gesture comprises detecting a body motion using an image capture device.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein detecting the tagging gesture comprises detecting a motion of a cursor controlled by a user input device, or detecting a motion of the user device.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the region of displayed content defined by the tagging gesture comprises a region that is substantially bounded by the tagging gesture.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the tagging gesture comprises a motion that bounds or substantially bounds the item within the media content.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the region of content defined by the tagging gesture comprises a region that is touched by, proximate to, or overlapped by the tagging gesture.

The method of claim 1, further comprising displaying a representation of the region of content defined by the tagging gesture on the displayed content, the representation of the region of content comprises a line at least substantially enclosing the region of content, a highlighting view of the region of content, a magnifying lens view of the region of content, or a combination thereof.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the advertisement is presented by overlaying the advertisement on the displayed content adjacent to the item.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

presenting one or more item actions along with the advertisement;

receiving a selection of an action of the one or more actions; and

initiating performance of the selected action.

11. One or more computer-readable storage media storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, configure the processor to perform acts comprising:

detecting a tagging gesture indicating an item presented within displayed media content;

identifying tag-item data associated with the item indicated by the tagging gesture;

initiating a search to be performed using the identified tag-item data and at least one of user data and context-item data;

receiving content related to the item that is based on the tag-item data and the at least one of user data and context-item data; and

presenting the related content in association with the item.

12. The media of claim 11, wherein the tagging gesture comprises a motion that substantially bounds the item presented within the displayed media content.

13. The media of claim 11, wherein the content related to the item comprises an advertisement associated with the item, a recommendation relevant to the item, or information relevant to the item.

14. The media of claim 11, wherein the user data comprises one or more of:

an indication of a user performing the tagging gesture;

a location of a user device used by the user;

a tagging history of the user;

an activity history of the user; and

a user preference associated with the user.

15. The method of claim 11, wherein the tag-item data comprises at least an identification of the item indicated by the tagging gesture.

16. A user device comprising:

a processor;

memory communicatively coupled to the processor;

a display screen configured to display media content to a user, the display screen displaying an indication that another user associated with a remote user device has indicated an interest in an item presented within the same media content being displayed to the user, wherein the indication is displayed as the media content is viewed by the user.

17. The user device of claim 16 further comprising:

a feature enabling component that enables the user device to display indications that other users associated with remote devices have indicated interest in items presented within the media content.

18. The user device of claim 17, wherein the user device is enabled to display indications that other users associated with remote devices have indicated interest in items presented within the media content based on receiving an indication from the user to view items of interest by third parties.

19. The user device of claim 18, wherein in response to receiving the indication from the user to view items of interest by third parties:

communicating at least an indication of the media content to a related-content system; and

receiving a notification of the item of interest to the other user;

20. The user device of claim 16, wherein the indication that another user associated with a remote user device has indicated interest in the item comprises at least one of:

providing a visual indication of the item;

providing a notification of the other user that indicated interest in the item;

providing an activity performed by the other user in association with the item;

providing a suggestion or recommendation related to the item;

providing an advertisement related to the item;

providing a search result related to the item; and

presenting information related to the item.
