Abstract

One or more scheduling grants may be received from a Node B related to a plurality of uplink MIMO streams. A determination may be made as to a primary transport power and a primary transport block size for a primary stream. A secondary transmit power and a secondary transport block size for a secondary stream may also be determined. An enhanced relative grant channel from the Node B, as well as another E-RGC from a non-serving Node B may be received for each of the plurality of uplink MIMO streams.

Claims

1. A method for communicating using multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) in a wireless network, comprising:

receiving one or more scheduling grants from a Node B relating to a plurality of uplink streams in MIMO;

receiving an enhanced relative grant channel (E-RGCH) from the Node B, as well as another E-RGCH from a non-serving Node B, for each or a subset of the plurality of uplink streams;

determining a primary transmit power and a primary transport block size (TBS) for a primary stream of the plurality of uplink streams; and

determining a secondary transmit power and a secondary TBS for a secondary stream of the plurality of uplink streams.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the E-RGCH is a serving E-RGCH and the another E-RGCH is a non-serving E-RGCH.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising communicating a happy bit related to combined data rate and power over the plurality of uplink streams.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the communicating the happy bit comprises communicating the happy bit over an E-DPCCH or an S-E-DPCCH.

The method of claim 3, wherein the communicating the happy bit comprises communicating a first happy bit related to combined data rate and power over the plurality of uplink streams over an E-DPCCH, and further comprising communicating a second happy bit over an S-E-DPCCH, wherein the second happy bit provides an indication related to the secondary stream.

6. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

decoding an S-E-DPCCH based on one or more of a scheduling grant, a minimum TBS, and the happy bit, the happy bit for the secondary stream being the same as the happy bit for the primary stream.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

transmitting scheduling information including a defined headroom based on consideration of the power of the S-DPCCH and the S-E-DPCCH.

8. An apparatus for communicating using multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) in a wireless network, comprising:

means for receiving one or more scheduling grants from a Node B relating to a plurality of uplink streams in MIMO;

means for receiving an enhanced relative grant channel (E-RGCH) from the Node B, as well as another E-RGCH from a non-serving Node B, for each or a subset of the plurality of uplink streams;

means for determining a primary transmit power and a primary transport block size (TBS) for a primary stream of the plurality of uplink streams; and

means for determining a secondary transmit power and a secondary TBS for a secondary stream of the plurality of uplink streams.

9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the E-RGCH is a serving E-RGCH and the another E-RGCH is a non-serving E-RGCH.

10. The apparatus of claim 8, further comprising means for communicating a happy bit related to combined data rate and power over the plurality of uplink streams.

11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the means for communicating the happy bit comprises means for communicating the happy bit over an E-DPCCH or an S-E-DPCCH.

12. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the means for communicating the happy bit is configured to communicate a first happy bit related to combined data rate and power over the plurality of uplink streams over an E-DPCCH, and to communicate a second happy bit over an S-E-DPCCH, wherein the second happy bit provides an indication related to the secondary stream.

13. The apparatus of claim 10, further comprising:

means for decoding an S-E-DPCCH based on one or more of a scheduling grant, a minimum TBS, and the happy bit, the happy bit for the secondary stream being the same as the happy bit for the primary stream.

14. The apparatus of claim 8, further comprising:

means for transmitting scheduling information including a defined headroom based on consideration of the power of the S-DPCCH and the S-E-DPCCH.

15. A computer-readable medium for communicating using multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) in a wireless network comprising code for causing a computer to:

receive one or more scheduling grants from a Node B relating to a plurality of uplink streams in MIMO;

receive an enhanced relative grant channel (E-RGCH) from the Node B, as well as another E-RGCH from a non-serving Node B, for each or a subset of the plurality of uplink streams;

determine a primary transmit power and a primary transport block size (TBS) for a primary stream of the plurality of uplink streams; and

determine a secondary transmit power and a secondary TBS for a secondary stream of the plurality of uplink streams.

16. The computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the E-RGCH is a serving E-RGCH and the another E-RGCH is a non-serving E-RGCH.

17. The computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the code is further configured to cause the computer to communicate a happy bit related to combined data rate and power over the plurality of uplink streams.

18. The computer-readable medium of claim 17, wherein the code is further configured to cause the computer to communicate the happy bit over an E-DPCCH or an S-E-DPCCH.

19. The computer-readable medium of claim 17, wherein the code for communicating the happy bit comprises code for communicating a first happy bit related to combined data rate and power over the plurality of uplink streams over an E-DPCCH, and code for communicating a second happy bit over an S-E-DPCCH, wherein the second happy bit provides an indication related to the secondary stream.

20. The computer-readable medium of claim 17, wherein the code is further configured to cause the computer to decode an S-E-DPCCH based on one or more of a scheduling grant, a minimum TBS, and the happy bit, the happy bit for the secondary stream being the same as the happy bit for the primary stream.

21. The computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the code is further configured to cause the computer to transmit scheduling information including a defined headroom based on consideration of the power of the S-DPCCH and the S-E-DPCCH.

22. An apparatus for communicating using multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) in a wireless network, comprising:

at least one processor configured to;

receive one or more scheduling grants from a Node B relating to a plurality of uplink streams in MIMO;

receive an enhanced relative grant channel (E-RGCH) from the Node B, as well as another E-RGCH from a non-serving Node B, for each or a subset of the plurality of uplink streams;

determine a primary transmit power and a primary transport block size (TBS) for a primary stream of the plurality of uplink streams; and

determine a secondary transmit power and a secondary TBS for a secondary stream of the plurality of uplink streams; and

a memory coupled to the at least one processor.

23. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the E-RGCH is a serving E-RGCH and the another E-RGCH is a non-serving E-RGCH.

24. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to communicate a happy bit related to combined data rate and power over the plurality of uplink streams.

25. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to communicate the happy bit over an E-DPCCH or an S-E-DPCCH.

26. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein in communicating the happy bit the at least one processor is further configured to communicate a first happy bit related to combined data rate and power over the plurality of uplink streams over an E-DPCCH, and to communicate a second happy bit over an S-E-DPCCH, wherein the second happy bit provides an indication related to the secondary stream.

27. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

decode an S-E-DPCCH based on one or more of a scheduling grant, a minimum TBS, and the happy bit, the happy bit for the secondary stream being the same as the happy bit for the primary stream.

28. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

transmit scheduling information including a defined headroom based on consideration of the power of the S-DPCCH and the S-E-DPCCH.

29. A method for adjusting power of a user equipment (UE), comprising:

receiving data from the UE; and

implementing an outer loop power control loop to adjust the power of the UE based on the received data.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein implementing the outer loop power control loop is based on data received on a primary data stream.

31. The method of claim 30, further comprising:

determining a stream ID for packets received from a NodeB related to the UE; and

considering packets having a stream ID related to the primary data stream to control the power of the UE.

32. The method of claim 29, wherein implementing the outer loop power control loop is based on data received on a plurality of data streams.

33. The method of claim 32, wherein multiple outer loop power control loops are implemented, one loop for each of a primary data stream and a secondary data stream.

34. The method of claim 33, wherein a NodeB related to the UE informs a radio network controller (RNC) of a stream ID for each decoded packet.

35. An apparatus for adjusting power of a user equipment (UE), comprising:

means for receiving data from the UE; and

means for implementing an outer loop power control loop to adjust the power of the UE based on the received data.

36. The apparatus of claim 35, wherein implementing the outer loop power control loop is based on data received on a primary data stream.

38. The apparatus of claim 35, wherein implementing the outer loop power control loop is based on data received on a plurality of data streams.

39. The apparatus of claim 38, wherein multiple outer loop power control loops are implemented, one loop for each of a primary stream and a secondary stream.

40. The apparatus of claim 39, wherein a NodeB related to the UE informs a radio network controller (RNC) of a stream ID for each decoded packet.

37. The apparatus of claim 351, further comprising:

means for determining a stream ID for packets received from a NodeB related to the UE; and

means for considering packets having a stream ID related to the primary stream to control the power of the UE.

41. A computer-readable medium for adjusting power of a user equipment (UE) comprising code for causing a computer to:

receive data from the UE; and

implement an outer loop power control loop to adjust the power of the UE based on the received data.

42. The computer-readable medium of claim 41, wherein implementing the outer loop power control loop is based on data received on a primary data stream.

43. The computer-readable medium of claim 41, wherein the code is further configured to cause the computer to:

determine a stream ID for packets received from a NodeB related to the UE; and

consider packets having a stream ID related to the primary stream to control the power of the UE.

44. The computer-readable medium of claim 41, wherein the code is further configured to cause the computer to implement the outer loop power control loop based on data received on a plurality of data streams.

45. The computer-readable medium of claim 41, wherein multiple outer loop power control loops are implemented, one loop for each of a primary stream and a secondary stream.

46. The computer-readable medium of claim 41, wherein a NodeB related to the UE informs a radio network controller (RNC) of a stream ID for each decoded packet.

47. An apparatus for adjusting power of a user equipment (UE), comprising:

at least one processor configured to;

receive data from the UE; and

implement an outer loop power control loop to adjust the power of the UE based on the received data; and

a memory coupled to the at least one processor.

48. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein implementing the outer loop power control loop is based on data received on a primary data stream.

49. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

determine a stream ID for packets received from a NodeB related to the UE; and

consider packets having a stream ID related to the primary stream to control the power of the UE.

50. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to implement the outer loop power control loop based on data received on a plurality of data streams.

51. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein multiple outer loop power control loops are implemented, one loop for each of a primary stream and a secondary stream.

52. The apparatus of claim 47, wherein a NodeB related to the UE informs a radio network controller (RNC) of a stream ID for each decoded packet.
