1. A method executed on a gaming platform in communication with an input device and a display device, for facilitating interaction of a user with a music-based video game, the method comprising:
- (a) displaying a user interface of a music video game on a screen of the display device, wherein the user interface includes a music video shown within the user interface of the music video game;
(b) generating a first set of visual data associated with at least one segment of the music video;
(c) receiving a first performance input from the input device;
(d) evaluating the first performance input by comparing the first visual data with the first performance input;
(e) generating a second set of visual data associated with at least one special effect;
(f) receiving a second performance input from the input device;
(g) evaluating the second performance input by comparing the second visual data with the second performance input; and
(h) altering the music video using the at least one special effect in response to the second performance input.
