Abstract

A surgical targeting system of an intramedullary nail, which includes an extracorporeally arranged external transmitting unit. Further included is a plurality of first transponder units coupled with and arrayed along the length of the intramedullary nail, each adapted to be actuated by the external transmitting unit. Additionally, a plurality of holes are disposed within and arrayed along the length of the intramedullary nail. Each of the plurality of holes are situated between each of the plurality of first transponder units. Further, a first transmission section is between the external transmitting unit and each of the plurality of first transponder units via which the plurality of first transponder units are actuated. Additionally included is a second transmission section through the intramedullary nail between the plurality of first transponder units and a second transponder unit.

Claims

1. A surgical targeting system of an intramedullary nail, comprising:

an extracorporeally arranged external transmitting unit;

a plurality of first transponder units coupled with and arrayed along the length of the intramedullary nail and each being adapted to be actuated by the external transmitting unit;

a plurality of holes disposed within and arrayed along the length of the intramedullary nail, each of the plurality of holes being situated between each of the plurality of first transponder units;

a first transmission section between the external transmitting unit and each of the plurality of first transponder units via which the plurality of first transponder units are actuated; and

a second transmission section through the intramedullary nail between the plurality of first transponder units and a second transponder unit.

2. The surgical targeting system of claim 1, wherein the first transmission section operates with electromagnetic waves.

3. The surgical targeting system of claim 2, wherein the plurality of first transponders each include a receiving unit and an internal transmitting unit.

4. The surgical targeting system of claim 1, wherein each of the receiving units includes a receiving coil adapted to be actuated by electromagnetic waves and adapted to actuate the internal transmitting unit.

5. The surgical targeting system of claim 4, wherein each of the internal transmitting units is adapted to transmit acoustical waves via the second transmission section when actuated.

6. A surgical targeting system of an intramedullary nail, comprising:

an extracorporeally arranged external transmitting unit;

a plurality of first transponder units coupled with and arrayed along the length of the intramedullary nail and each being adapted to be actuated by the external transmitting unit;

a plurality of holes disposed within and arrayed along the length of the intramedullary nail, each of the plurality of holes being situated between each of the plurality of first transponder units;

a first transmission section between the external transmitting unit and the plurality of first transponder units, via which the plurality of first transponder units are actuated;

a second transponder unit coupled to the intramedullary nail at a location along the length of the intramedullary nail spaced from the plurality of first transponder units; and

a second transmission section through the intramedullary nail between the plurality of first transponder units and the second transponder unit.

7. The surgical targeting system of claim 6, wherein the first transmission section operates with electromagnetic waves.

8. The surgical targeting system of claim 7, wherein the plurality of first transponders units include a receiving unit and an first transmitting unit.

9. The surgical targeting system of claim 8, wherein each of the receiving units includes a receiving coil adapted to be actuated by electromagnetic waves and adapted to actuate the first transmitting unit.

10. The surgical targeting system of claim 9, wherein each of the first transmitting units is adapted to transmit acoustical waves via the second transmission section when actuated.

11. The surgical targeting system of claim 10, wherein the second transponder unit includes an acoustic transducer and a second transmitting unit.

12. The surgical targeting system of claim 11, wherein the acoustic transducer is adapted to convert acoustic waves to at least one of electrical signals or electromagnetic waves.

13. The surgical targeting system of claim 12, wherein the second transmitting unit is adapted to transmit signals converted by the acoustic transducer to an external processing device.

14. The surgical targeting system of claim 13, wherein the external transmitting unit includes a plurality of coils, the plurality of coils being adapted to emit a multiplexed signal formed by one of frequency-division multiplexing, time-division multiplexing, or code-division multiplexing.

15. A data transmission system connected to an implant, the data transmission system comprising:

an extracorporeally arranged external transmitting unit;

at least one first transponder unit adapted to be actuated by the external transmitting unit;

a first transmission section between the internal transmitting unit and the at least one first transponder unit, via which the internal transmitting unit is actuated;

a second transponder unit adapted to be acoustically coupled to skin and having an acoustic receiver adapted to receive acoustic transmissions from the at least one first transponder unit; and

an acoustic downlink through tissue between the at least one first transponder unit and the second transponder unit.

16. The data transmission system of claim 15, wherein the implant is one of a transcutaneous pin of an internal fixation device or an intramedullary nail.

17. The data transmission system of claim 16, wherein the first transmission section operates with electromagnetic waves.

18. The data transmission system of claim 17, wherein the first transponder unit includes a first receiving unit for receiving electromagnetic waves from the external transmitting unit and a first transmitting unit electrically coupled to the first receiving unit.

19. The data transmission system of claim 18, wherein the first transponder unit further comprises a measuring unit coupled to the acoustic receiving unit and first transmitting unit for measuring and recording physical and/or chemical data.

20. The data transmission system of claim 19, wherein the second transponder unit further includes an acoustic transducer for converting signals received by the acoustic receiver and a second transmitting element for transmitting signals converted by the acoustic transducer.

The data transmission system of claim 20, wherein the acoustic transducer is adapted for converting acoustic waves into electrical signals, and the second transmitting element is adapted for transmitting the electrical signals to the external transmitting unit via a second transmitting section.

22. The data transmission system of claim 21, wherein the second transmission section is adapted for transmitting data by acoustic vibrations or waves, electric signals or electromagnetic waves, wherein the second transmitting section consists of a cable connection or a wireless connection.

23. The data transmission system of claim 15, further comprising a processor unit,

whereby the processor unit is adapted for being fixed to at least one of the second transponder unit or to the external transmitting unit, and

whereby the processor unit is adapted for evaluating the data received by the second receiving unit.
