Abstract

Systems and methods for processing sensor data are provided. In some embodiments, systems and methods are provided for calibration of a continuous analyte sensor. In some embodiments, systems and methods are provided for classification of a level of noise on a sensor signal. In some embodiments, systems and methods are provided for determining a rate of change for analyte concentration based on a continuous sensor signal. In some embodiments, systems and methods for alerting or alarming a patient based on prediction of glucose concentration are provided.

Claims

1. A method for processing continuous analyte sensor data, comprising:

receiving sensor data from a continuous analyte sensor, the sensor data comprising one or more sensor data points;

calibrating the sensor data using calibration information;

calculating an accuracy of the sensor data; and

providing insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions based on a comparison of the calculated accuracy with one or more thresholds.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more thresholds delineate at least two predetermined ranges of accuracy.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more thresholds delineate at least three predetermined ranges of accuracy.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the calculating the accuracy comprises evaluating the calibration information.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the calculating the accuracy is based on a signal indicative of drift.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the calculating the accuracy comprises calculating a difference between the sensor data and its corresponding reference data.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the calculating the accuracy is performed on calibrated sensor data in units of blood glucose concentration.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the providing insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions comprises controlling an insulin pump.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the providing insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions comprises displaying, on a user interface, the insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the providing insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions comprises transmitting the insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the providing insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions comprises determining when to provide a more or less conservative insulin delivery instruction and/or when to provide a more or less conservative insulin therapy instruction

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the providing insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions comprises determining when to trigger a failsafe in a closed loop insulin delivery system.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the providing insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions comprises requesting user interaction in a closed loop insulin delivery system.

14. A system for processing continuous analyte sensor data, comprising:

a continuous analyte sensor configured to continuously measure a concentration of an analyte in a host; and

a computer system configured to receive sensor data from the continuous analyte sensor and to calibrate sensor data using calibration information, wherein the computer system is further configured to calculate an accuracy of the sensor data and to provide insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions based on a comparison of the calculated accuracy with one or more thresholds.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the one or more thresholds delineate at least two predetermined ranges of accuracy.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the one or more thresholds delineate at least three predetermined ranges of accuracy.

17. The system of claim 14, wherein the computer system is configured to calculate the accuracy based on an evaluation of the calibration information.

18. The system of claim 14, wherein the computer system is configured to calculate the accuracy based on signal indicative of drift.

19. The system of claim 14, wherein the computer system is configured to calculate the accuracy based on a difference between the sensor data and its corresponding reference data.

20. The system of claim 14, wherein the computer system is configured to calculate the accuracy of calibrated sensor data in units of blood glucose concentration.

21. The system of claim 14, wherein the computer system is configured to provide insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions to automatically control an insulin pump.

22. The system of claim 14, wherein the computer system is configured to provide insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions a user interface for display.

23. The system of claim 14, wherein the computer system is configured to provide insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions using a transmission.

24. The system of claim 14, wherein the computer system is configured to provide insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions by determining when to provide a more or less conservative insulin delivery instruction and/or when to provide a more or less conservative insulin therapy instruction.

25. The system of claim 14, wherein the computer system is configured to provide insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions by determining when to trigger a failsafe in a closed loop insulin delivery system.

26. The system of claim 14, wherein the computer system is configured to provide insulin delivery instructions and/or insulin therapy instructions by requesting user interaction in a closed loop insulin delivery system.
