Abstract

Advertisement content is received at a processor that manages inventory of a smart home appliance from an advertising distribution device within a home network. A determination is made to add an advertised item of the advertisement content to a spoke shopping cart based upon commodity data of the managed inventory of the smart home appliance. The advertised item is added to the spoke shopping cart.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, at a processor that manages inventory of a smart home appliance, advertisement content from an advertising distribution device within a home network;

determining, based upon commodity data of the managed inventory of the smart home appliance, to add an advertised item of the advertisement content to a spoke shopping cart; and

adding the advertised item to the spoke shopping cart.

2. The method of claim 1, where receiving, at the processor that manages the inventory of the smart home appliance, the advertisement content from the advertising distribution device within the home network comprises receiving the advertisement content from the advertising distribution device in response to a push operation from the advertising distribution device within the home network.

3. The method of claim 1, where determining, based upon the commodity data of the managed inventory of the smart home appliance, to add the advertised item of the advertisement content to the spoke shopping cart comprises:

comparing the advertisement content with current inventory items referenced by the advertisement content; and

placing commodity data for an inventory item onto the spoke shopping cart in response to determining that at least one of;

configured discount data for the inventory item is met by the advertisement content; and

the inventory item is at least one of close to expiration, expired, and below one of a configured threshold weight and a configured threshold quantity.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

subscribing to receive advertisements, at the processor, of at least one commodity category type from the advertising distribution device, where the advertising distribution device creates a subscription to the at least one commodity category type for the smart home appliance and further subscribes to an advertising server to receive advertisements for the at least one commodity category type; and

where receiving, at the processor that manages the inventory of the smart home appliance, the advertisement content from the advertising distribution device within the home network comprises receiving filtered advertisement content from the advertising distribution device published by the advertising distribution device in response to the subscription.

5. The method of claim 1, where the advertising distribution device comprises one of a set-top-box (STB) and a wireless device, and where the advertising distribution device manages subscriptions to the advertisement content for a plurality of smart home appliances.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a request to send the spoke shopping cart to a hub shopping cart device; and

sending the spoke shopping cart to the hub shopping cart device, where the hub shopping cart device consolidates the spoke shopping cart with other spoke shopping carts maintained by a plurality of other smart home appliances into a hub shopping cart useable by a consumer to shop.

7. The method of claim 6, where the advertisement content further comprises purchase location information, and further comprising:

adding the purchase location information for the advertised item to the spoke shopping cart; and

where sending the spoke shopping cart to the hub shopping cart device comprises sending the purchase location information for the advertised item as part of the spoke shopping cart.

8. A system, comprising:

a memory; and

a processor programmed to;

receive advertisement content from an advertising distribution device within a home network;

determine, based upon commodity data of managed inventory of a smart home appliance, to add an advertised item of the advertisement content to a spoke shopping cart stored within the memory; and

add the advertised item to the spoke shopping cart.

The system of claim 8, where in being programmed to receive the advertisement content from the advertising distribution device within the home network, the processor is programmed to receive the advertisement content from the advertising distribution device in response to a push operation from the advertising distribution device within the home network.

10. The system of claim 8, where in being programmed to determine, based upon the commodity data of the managed inventory of the smart home appliance, to add the advertised item of the advertisement content to the spoke shopping cart stored within the memory, the processor is programmed to:

compare the advertisement content with current inventory items referenced by the advertisement content; and

place commodity data for an inventory item onto the spoke shopping cart within the memory in response to determining that at least one of;

configured discount data for the inventory item is met by the advertisement content; and

the inventory item is at least one of close to expiration, expired, and below one of a configured threshold weight and a configured threshold quantity.

11. The system of claim 8, where the processor is further programmed to:

subscribe to receive advertisements of at least one commodity category type from the advertising distribution device, where the advertising distribution device creates a subscription to the at least one commodity category type and further subscribes to an advertising server to receive advertisements for the at least one commodity category type; and

where, in being programmed to receive the advertisement content from the advertising distribution device within the home network, the processor is programmed to receive filtered advertisement content from the advertising distribution device published by the advertising distribution device in response to the subscription.

12. The system of claim 8, where the advertising distribution device comprises one of a set-top-box (STB) and a wireless device, and where the advertising distribution device manages subscriptions to the advertisement content for a plurality of smart home appliances.

13. The system of claim 8, where the advertisement content further comprises purchase location information, and the processor is further programmed to:

receive a request to send the spoke shopping cart to a hub shopping cart device;

send the spoke shopping cart to the hub shopping cart device, where the hub shopping cart device consolidates the spoke shopping cart with other spoke shopping carts maintained by a plurality of other smart home appliances into a hub shopping cart useable by a consumer to shop;

add the purchase location information for the advertised item to the spoke shopping cart; and

where in being programmed to send the spoke shopping cart to the hub shopping cart device, the processor is programmed to send the purchase location information for the advertised item as part of the spoke shopping cart.

14. A computer program product comprising a computer readable storage medium including computer readable program code, where the computer readable program code when executed on a computer causes the computer to:

receive advertisement content from an advertising distribution device within a home network;

determine, based upon commodity data of managed inventory of a smart home appliance, to add an advertised item of the advertisement content to a spoke shopping cart; and

add the advertised item to the spoke shopping cart.

The computer program product of claim 14, where in causing the computer to receive the advertisement content from the advertising distribution device within the home network, the computer readable program code when executed on the computer causes the computer to receive the advertisement content from the advertising distribution device in response to a push operation from the advertising distribution device within the home network.

The computer program product of claim 14, where in causing the computer to determine, based upon the commodity data of the managed inventory of the smart home appliance, to add the advertised item of the advertisement content to the spoke shopping cart, the computer readable program code when executed on the computer causes the computer to:

compare the advertisement content with current inventory items referenced by the advertisement content; and

place commodity data for an inventory item onto the spoke shopping cart in response to determining that at least one of;

configured discount data for the inventory item is met by the advertisement content; and

the inventory item is at least one of close to expiration, expired, and below one of a configured threshold weight and a configured threshold quantity.

17. The computer program product of claim 14, where the computer readable program code when executed on the computer further causes the computer to:

subscribe to receive advertisements of at least one commodity category type from the advertising distribution device, where the advertising distribution device creates a subscription to the at least one commodity category type for the smart home appliance and further subscribes to an advertising server to receive advertisements for the at least one commodity category type; and

where in causing the computer to receive the advertisement content from the advertising distribution device within the home network, the computer readable program code when executed on the computer causes the computer to receive filtered advertisement content from the advertising distribution device published by the advertising distribution device in response to the subscription.

18. The computer program product of claim 14, where the advertising distribution device comprises one of a set-top-box (STB) and a wireless device, and where the advertising distribution device manages subscriptions to the advertisement content for a plurality of smart home appliances.

19. The computer program product of claim 14, where the computer readable program code when executed on the computer further causes the computer to:

receive a request to send the spoke shopping cart to a hub shopping cart device; and

send the spoke shopping cart to the hub shopping cart device, where the hub shopping cart device consolidates the spoke shopping cart with other spoke shopping carts maintained by a plurality of other smart home appliances into a hub shopping cart useable by a consumer to shop.

20. The computer program product of claim 19, where the advertisement content further comprises purchase location information, and the computer readable program code when executed on the computer further causes the computer to:

add the purchase location information for the advertised item to the spoke shopping cart; and

where in causing the computer to send the spoke shopping cart to the hub shopping cart device, the computer readable program code when executed on the computer causes the computer to send the purchase location information for the advertised item as part of the spoke shopping cart.
