Abstract

For a mapping application, a method for reporting a problem related to a map displayed by the mapping application is described. The method identifies a mode in which the mapping application is operating. The method identifies a set of types of problems to report based on the identified mode. The method displays, in a display area of the mapping application, a graphical user interface (GUI) page that includes a set of selectable user interface (UI) items that represent the identified set of types of problems.

Claims

1. For a mapping application, a method for reporting a problem related to a map displayed by the mapping application, the method comprising:

identifying a mode in which the mapping application is operating;

identifying a set of types of problems to report based on the identified mode; and

displaying, in a display area of the mapping application, a graphical user interface (GUI) page that includes a set of selectable user interface (UI) items that represent the identified set of types of problems.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein each selectable UI item is for displaying a sequence of GUI pages when selected.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising, upon receiving a selection of a UI item in the list, displaying a first GUI page of a particular sequence of GUI pages for the type of problem for the selected UI item.

4. The method of claim 3 further comprising:

displaying, in the first GUI page, a UI item for moving to a second GUI page of the particular sequence of GUI pages; and

upon receiving a selection of said UI item for moving to the second GUI page, displaying the second GUI page in the display area.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein a first sequence of GUI pages for a first selectable UI item is different than a second sequence of GUI pages for a second selectable UI item.

6. The method of claim 2, wherein each GUI page in a sequence of GUI pages includes a set of UI items for showing another GUI page of the sequence.

The method of claim 1, wherein the mapping application operates in one of a plurality of different modes at an instance in time, wherein the different modes comprise (i) a mode in which the mapping application displays a GUI page for displaying information about a location of the map and (ii) a mode in which the mapping application displays a GUI page for displaying results of a location search.

8. For a mapping application, a method for reporting a problem related to a map displayed by the mapping application, the method comprising:

displaying a graphical user interface (GUI) page that includes a set of selectable user interface (UI) items that shows different types of information about a location in the map;

upon receiving a selection of a UI item, making the information for the UI item editable; and

upon receiving edits to the information for the selected UI item, displaying the edited information visually differently from other information shown for other UI items.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein displaying the edited information visually differently comprises using a different color to display the edited information.

10. The method of claim 8 further comprising, upon receiving a selection of a UI item, making the information for the UI item visually different from other information shown for other UI items.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein the GUI page is a first GUI page, further comprising displaying a second GUI page before displaying the first GUI page, the second GUI page includes a set of selectable UI items showing a set of different types of problems to report.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein the set of selectable UI item includes a UI item for indicating a user'"'"'s relationship with the location.

13. A non-transitory machine readable medium storing a mapping application which when executed by at least one processing unit of a device reports problems to a map displayed by the mapping application, the mapping application comprising sets of instructions for:

displaying a set of selectable user interface (UI) items representing different types of problems to report;

receiving a selection of a particular UI item indicating that a location indicator of a place is at an incorrect location of the map;

upon receiving the selection of the particular UI item, displaying the map and the location indicator in the map; and

receiving a selection of a location in the map; and

upon receiving the selection of the location, displaying the location indicator at the selected location of the map to indicate that the selected location is a correct location of the place.

14. The machine readable medium of claim 13, wherein the map is three-dimensional and the selected location has a value that represents a distance from a ground level of the map.

15. The machine readable medium of claim 13, the mapping application further comprises a set of instructions for providing an overlaid UI item for selecting a location in the map.

16. The machine readable medium of claim 13, wherein the mapping application further comprises a set of instructions for:

displaying a banner for the location indicator, the banner including a set of selectable UI items; and

upon receiving a selection of a UI item on the banner, displaying a set of UI items for receiving edits to different types of information about the place.

17. A non-transitory machine readable medium storing a mapping application which when executed by at least one processing unit of a device reports problems to a map displayed by the mapping application, the mapping application comprising sets of instructions for:

displaying a first set of selectable user interface (UI) items representing different types of problems to report;

receiving a selection of a particular UI item indicating that result of at least one previously run searches is incorrect;

upon receiving the selection of the particular UI item, displaying a second set of selectable UI items representing a set of results of previously run searches; and

upon receiving a selection of a UI item in the second set, displaying an editable UI item for receiving a description of a problem associated with the search result represented by the selected UI item.

18. The machine readable medium of claim 17, wherein the mapping application further comprises a set of instructions for displaying result of a search in the map before displaying the first set of selectable UI items.

19. The machine readable medium of claim 17, wherein each UI item in the second set of selectable UI items displays a search query that was used to run the search represented by the UI item.

20. A non-transitory machine readable medium storing a mapping application which when executed by at least one processing unit of a device reports problems to a map displayed by the mapping application, the mapping application comprising sets of instructions for:

displaying a first set of selectable user interface (UI) items representing different types of problems to report;

receiving a selection of a particular UI item indicating that at least one previously computed routes is incorrect;

upon receiving the selection of the particular UI item, displaying a second set of selectable UI items representing a set of previously computed routes;

upon receiving a selection of a UI item in the second set, displaying a plurality of selectable UI items representing a plurality of instructions of the route represented by the selected UI item in the second set;

upon receiving a selection of a UI item in the plurality of selectable UI items, displaying an editable UI item for receiving information regarding the instruction represented by the selected UI item in the plurality of selectable UI items.

21. The machine readable medium of claim 20, wherein the mapping application further comprises a set of instructions for displaying a computed route before displaying the first set of selectable UI items.

22. The machine readable medium of claim 20, wherein each UI item in the second set of selectable UI items displays at least a destination of the computed route represented by the UI item.

23. A non-transitory machine readable medium storing a mapping application which when executed by at least one processing unit of a device reports problems to a map displayed by the mapping application, the mapping application comprising sets of instructions for:

displaying a UI item indicating that there are previously reported problems to the map;

upon receiving the selection of the UI item, displaying a set of selectable UI items representing a set of previously reported problems; and

upon receiving a selection of a UI item in the set, displaying a UI page showing status of the reported problem represented by the selected UI item in the set.

24. The machine readable medium of claim 23, wherein the UI page is an email message.

25. The machine readable medium of claim 23, wherein each of the selectable UI items in the set shows status of the reported problem represented by the UI item.
