Abstract
A congenital heart disease monitor utilizes a sensor capable of emitting multiple wavelengths of optical radiation into a tissue site and detecting the optical radiation after attenuation by pulsatile blood flowing within the tissue site. A patient monitor is capable of receiving a sensor signal corresponding to the detected optical radiation and calculating at least one physiological parameter in response. The physiological parameter is measured at a baseline site and a comparison site and a difference in these measurements is calculated. A potential congenital heart disease condition in indicated according to the measured physiological parameter at each of the sites or the calculated difference in the measured physiological parameter between the sites or both.

18. A congenital heart disease monitor comprising:
-
a display; a sensor configured to emit optical radiation having a plurality of wavelengths into a tissue site and to detect the optical radiation after attenuation by pulsatile blood flowing within the tissue site; a patient monitor configured to drive the sensor, receive a sensor signal corresponding to the detected optical radiation and to generate at least one of a visual output and an audio output responsive to the sensor signal; one or more processors within the patient monitor programmed to derive a physiological parameter measurement from sensor data responsive to the sensor signal and determine and display an indication of a congenital heart disease condition, the one or more processors further configured to; provide visual instructions to place the sensor on a first measurement site of a patient; determine a first physiological measurement at the first measurement site; provide visual instructions to move the sensor to a second physiological measurement site; determine a second physiological measurement at the second measurement site; and compare the measurements of the first and second measurement site as part of the determination of the indication of a congenital heart disease condition. - View Dependent Claims (19, 20, 21, 22, 23)

24. A congenital heart disease screening method comprising the steps of:
-
displaying, on a display screen of a patient monitor, instructions to place a physiological sensor at a first measurement site of a patient; measuring, using the sensor and the patient monitor, a first physiological measurement at the first patient site; displaying, on the display screen, instructions to place the physiological sensor at a second measurement site of the patient; measuring, using the sensor and the patient monitor, the second physiological measurement at the second patient site; determining, on the patient monitor, based on a comparison of the first and second physiological measurements, an indication of the existence of congenital heart disease; displaying the indication of the display screen. - View Dependent Claims (25, 26, 27)
