Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for context determination. In one implementation one or more indications can be received, each of the one or more indications corresponding to a perception of one or more access points in relation to a user device. The one or more indications can be processed to determine one or more characteristics of at least one of the one or more access points. Based on the one or more characteristics, a context of the user device can be determined.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving one or more indications, each of the one or more indications corresponding to a perception of one or more access points in relation to a user device;

processing with a processing device, the one or more indications to determine one or more characteristics of at least one of the one or more access points; and

based on the one or more characteristics, determining a context of the user device.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein processing the one or more indications comprises processing the one or more indications in relation to one or more access point records to determine one or more characteristics of at least one of the one or more access points.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more characteristics comprise (a) nomadic or (b) stationary.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the context comprises at least one of:

(a) within a vehicle, (b) not within a vehicle, (c) within a trip, or (d) not within a trip.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein determining a context of the user device comprises:

based on a determination that the user device perceived a stationary access point throughout a chronological period, determining that the context of the user device is at least one of (a) not within a vehicle or (b) not within a trip.

6. The method of claim 1,

wherein processing the one or more indications comprises processing one or more successive indications;

and

wherein determining a context of the user device comprises determining a speed at which the user device is traveling.

7. The method of claim 1,

wherein at least one of the one or more indications comprises one or more locations corresponding to the at least one of the one or more access points;

wherein processing the one or more indications comprises processing the one or more locations to determine a locational variability with respect to the at least one of the one or more access points; and

wherein determining a context of the user device comprises determining a context of the user device based on the locational variability.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the locational variability comprises a difference between (a) a location associated with a connection to the at least one of the one or more access points and (b) a location associated with a disconnection from the at least one of the one or more access points.

9. The method of claim 1,

wherein processing the one or more indications comprises processing the one or more indications to determine a variability with respect to the one or more indications;

and

wherein determining a context of the user device comprises determining a context of the user device based on the variability.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the variability comprises a quantity of distinct access points perceived during a chronological period.

11. The method of claim 1,

wherein receiving one or more indications comprises receiving one or more indications, each of the one or more indications (a) corresponding to a perception of one or more access points and (b) being associated with an operational context of a user device;

wherein processing the one or more indications comprises processing the one or more indications to determine one or more characteristics associated with one or more respective perceptions of at least one of the one or more access points.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

associating the one or more characteristics with one or more operational contexts; and

based on a determination of at least one of the one or more characteristics in relation to a user device, initiating one or more operations in relation to the user device based on at least one of the one or more operational contexts.

13. The method of claim 1,

wherein processing the one or more indications comprises processing the one or more indications to determine a quantity of access points perceptible to the user device;

and

wherein determining a context of the user device comprises determining a context of the user device based on the quantity.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the context comprises (a) an urban location or (b) a rural location.

15. The method of claim 13, further comprising selecting, based on the context, a trip determination threshold with respect to the user device.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein processing the one or more indications comprises processing the one or more indications to identify a connection between the user device and at least one of the one or more access points, and wherein determining a context of the user device comprises determining that the user device is not present within a vehicle based on an identification of a connection between the user device and at least one of the one or more access points.

17. A system comprising:

a memory; and

a processing device, coupled to the memory, to;

identify one or more operational characteristics of a device; and

selectively employ, based on the operational characteristics, one or more contextual determination methods in relation to the device.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the processing device is further to determine, based on at least one of the operational characteristics, an inapplicability of at least one of the one or more contextual determination methods in relation to the device.

19. A computer readable medium having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by a processor,

cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

determining one or more power charging aspects in relation to a user device;

processing the one or more power charging aspects to determine a context of the user device; and

initiating, based on the context, one or more operations in relation to the user device.

20. The computer readable medium of claim 19, wherein the one or more power charging aspects comprise at least one of:

(a) a voltage determined in relation to the user device, (b) a temperature determined in relation to the user device, or (c) a variability of a battery charging.
