Abstract

A modular building system arrangement includes a plurality of electrical building systems. Each electrical building system has a housing with a mechanical connector that is connectable with a like connector of each other building system housing. Members of any subset of the building system housings are connectable with each other to form a building system assembly. The building systems of the building system assembly conjointly define an electrically conductive pathway interconnecting each of the building systems of the building system assembly. The pathway carries power and/or data.

Claims

1. A building surveillance system arrangement, comprising:

a rotatable camera;

a controller that adjusts a position of the rotatable camera using a camera control signal; and

a passive infrared (PIR) detection ring including a PIR sensor outputting motion information, wherein;

the rotatable camera and the PIR detection ring conjointly define an electrically conductive pathway configured to carry at least one of camera control signal and the motion information to the rotatable camera, and

the controller adjusts the position of the rotatable camera based on the motion information.

2. The building surveillance system of claim 1, wherein:

the rotatable camera has a first field of view at a first camera position,

the PIR sensor has a predetermined second field of view different than the first field of view, and

the controller adjusts the rotatable camera from the first camera position to a second camera position based on the motion information where the rotatable camera has a third field of view at least partially overlapping the second field of view.

3. The building surveillance system of claim 2, wherein the PIR detection ring includes a plurality of PIR sensors providing motion quadrant information.

4. The building surveillance system of claim 1, wherein:

the rotatable camera and the PIR detection ring conjointly define a connection including the electrically conductive pathway, the connection including a first surface and a second surface, the first surface having at least one male electrical connector, the second surface having at least one female electrical connector connected to the at least one male electrical connector, and

the connection is made by rotating the rotatable camera relative to the PIR detection ring about an axis.

5. The building surveillance system of claim 4, wherein the rotatable camera and the PIR detection ring are aligned along the axis.

6. The building surveillance system of claim 1, wherein the passive infrared detection ring is configured to attach the rotatable camera to a building.

7. A modular building system arrangement, comprising a plurality of electrical building systems, each said building system having a housing with a mechanical connector that is connectable with a like said connector of each other said building system housing, any subset of the building system housings being connectable with each other to form a building system assembly, the building systems of the building system assembly conjointly defining an electrically conductive pathway interconnecting each of the building systems of the building system assembly, the pathway being configured to carry at least one of power and data, each said building system including at least one male electrical connector electrically connected to at least one female electrical connector, each said male electrical connector being connectable with the female connector of each other said building system, the building systems of the building system assembly being aligned along an axis, the electrical connectors being connectable with each other by rotating adjacent ones of said building systems relative to each other about the axis.

8. The arrangement of claim 7 further comprising a base configured to be mounted to a fixed structure, the base being connectable to a proximal one of the building systems.

9. The arrangement of claim 7 wherein the electrically conductive pathway passes through each of the female connectors and each of the male connectors.

10. The arrangement of claim 7 wherein the pathway is configured to carry power to each of the building systems, the pathway being configured to carry data at least one of to and from each of the building systems.

11. The arrangement of claim 7 wherein the building systems of the building system assembly are aligned along an axis, the mechanical connectors being connectable with each other by rotating adjacent ones of said building systems relative to each other about the axis.

12. The arrangement of claim 7 wherein the at least one female electrical connector is L-shaped and includes a first leg and a second leg, the first leg being shorter than the second leg.

13. The arrangement of claim 12 wherein the second leg includes a substantially V-shaped notch opening in a circumferential direction.

14. The arrangement of claim 7 wherein the electrical connectors are connectable with each other by rotating adjacent ones of said building systems relative to each other about the axis such that the electrical connectors move in circumferential directions into initial engagement with each other.

15. A method of operating a building surveillance system, comprising the steps of:

outputting motion information, the outputting being performed by a passive infrared (PIR) detection ring including a PIR sensor;

carrying at least one of a camera control signal and the motion information to a rotatable camera through an electrically conductive pathway conjointly defined by the rotatable camera and the PIR detection ring; and

adjusting a position of a rotatable camera using a camera control signal based on the motion information.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein:

the rotatable camera has a first field of view at a first camera position; and

the PIR sensor has a predetermined second field of view different than the first field of view, and

the adjusting step includes adjusting the rotatable camera from the first camera position to a second camera position based on the motion information, at the second camera position the rotatable camera having a third field of view at least partially overlapping the second field of view.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the PIR detection ring includes a plurality of PIR sensors providing motion quadrant information.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein:

the rotatable camera and the PIR detection ring conjointly define a connection including the electrically conductive pathway, the connection including a first surface and a second surface, the first surface having at least one male electrical connector, the second surface having at least one female electrical connector connected to the at least one male electrical connector, and

the connection is made by rotating the rotatable camera relative to the PIR detection ring about an axis.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the rotatable camera and the PIR detection ring are aligned along the axis.

20. The method of claim 15, wherein the passive infrared detection ring attaches the rotatable camera to a building.
