Abstract

A rules evaluation engine operable to select optimal content for presentation to the viewer at each presentation opportunity. The engine evaluates segmentation rules associated with each particular content item in parallel, and then selects the best content to be presented. Priorities determined during evaluation sort out which content items will be presented. Real time dynamic enrichment of the decision making context occurs by retrieving additional information required to evaluate the rules. Logging and administrative processes for managing the segmentation rules are also realized.

40. A computer-implemented system comprising:

one or more rule repositories comprising at least one rule;

one or more content items, wherein at least one of the content items is associated with at least one of the rules;

one or more servers operable to;

receive a content item request;

receive input from one or more data repositories, wherein the input comprises information about at least one previously presented content item;

evaluate one or more of the rules to determine eligible content items, wherein the determination is based, at least in part, on the received input; and

rank a plurality of eligible content items, wherein the ranking is based, at least in part, on bids associated with the plurality of eligible content items.

41. The system of claim 40, wherein the received input further comprises zip code information.

42. The system of claim 40, wherein the received input further comprises information related to a financial index.

43. The system of claim 40, wherein the received input further comprises information retrieved from a geospatial information service.

44. The system of claim 40, wherein at least a portion of the received input comprises information retrieved from a credit bureau.

45. The system of claim 40, wherein at least a portion of the received input comprises information retrieved from a market research data supplier.

46. The system of claim 40, wherein at least one a portion of the received input is retrieved from a business partner.

47. The system of claim 40, wherein at least a portion of the received input is information retrieved from a demographic data source.

48. The system of claim 40, wherein at least a portion of the received input is retrieved from a weather information source.

49. A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving by a server a content item request;

accessing one or more rule repositories comprising at least one rule, wherein at least one of the rules is associated with at least one of one or more content items;

receiving input from one or more data repositories wherein the input comprises information about at least one previously presented content item;

evaluating one or more of the rules to determine eligible content items, wherein the determination is based on, at least in part, on the received input; and

ranking a plurality of eligible content items, wherein the ranking is based, at least in part, on bids associated with the plurality of eligible content items.

50. The system of claim 49, wherein the received input further comprises zip code information.

51. The system of claim 49, wherein the received input further comprises information related to a financial index.

52. The system of claim 49, wherein the received input further comprises information retrieved from a geospatial information service.
