Abstract

A contactless power transfer system is proposed. The power transfer system comprises a field-focusing element comprising a dielectric material. The dielectric material includes an oxide material including (Mg_1−xSr_x)_yTiO_(2+y), wherein x can vary between the value of zero and 1 such that 0≦x≦1, and y can be 0, 1, or 2. A power transfer system further including a first coil coupled to a power source and a second coil coupled to a load is disclosed. In this system, the field-focusing element including the dielectric material is disposed between the first coil and the second coil.

Claims

1. A power transfer system comprising:

a field-focusing element comprising a dielectric material, wherein the dielectric material comprises an oxide material comprising (Mg<sub>1−

x</sub>Sr_x)_yTiO_(2+y), wherein 0≦

x≦

1, and y=0, 1, or 2.

2. The power transfer system of claim 1, wherein the oxide material comprises TiO₂.

3. The power transfer system of claim 1, wherein the oxide material comprises MgTiO₃.

4. The power transfer system of claim 1, wherein the oxide material comprises SrTiO₃.

5. The power transfer system of claim 1, wherein the dielectric material further comprises a secondary oxide.

6. The power transfer system of claim 5, wherein the secondary oxide comprises CuO.

7. The power transfer system of claim 6, wherein an amount of CuO in the dielectric material is less than about 3 weight percent.

8. The power transfer system of claim 5, wherein the secondary oxide comprises 2MgO.SiO₂.

9. The power transfer system of claim 8, wherein an amount of 2MgO.SiO₂ in the dielectric material is about 70 weight percent.

10. The power transfer system of claim 5, wherein the secondary oxide comprises Bi₂O₃.3TiO₂.

11. The power transfer system of claim 10, wherein the dielectric material is a polycrystalline material comprising grains and grain boundaries.

12. The power transfer system of claim 10, wherein the Bi₂O₃.3TiO₂ is disposed at the grain boundaries of the dielectric material.

13. The power transfer system of claim 12, wherein an amount of Bi₂O₃.3TiO₂ in the dielectric material is less than about 2 mole percent.

14. A power transfer system comprising:

a first coil coupled to a power source;

a second coil coupled to a load; and

a field-focusing element disposed between the first coil and the second coil and comprising a dielectric material, wherein the dielectric material comprises an oxide material comprising (Mg<sub>1−

x</sub>Sr_x)_yTiO_(2+y), and y=0, 1, or 2.

15. The power transfer system of claim 14, wherein the field-focusing element comprises a plurality of resonators.
