Abstract

The wireless power transmission is a system for providing wireless charging and/or primary power to electronic/electrical devices via microwave energy. The microwave energy is focused to a location by a power transmitter having one or more adaptively-phased microwave array emitters. Rectennas within the device to be charged receive and rectify the microwave energy and use it for battery charging and/or for primary power.

Claims

1. A rechargeable battery, comprising:

circuitry configured to receive power transmission signals from a wireless microwave power transmitter to charge the rechargeable battery;

wherein the wireless microwave power transmitter comprising;

a controller and a phased array antenna having a plurality of microwave array transceivers for transmitting the microwave power transmission signals, the transceiver being adaptively-phased by the controller to transmit the power transmission signals at a respective selected phase;

each transceiver further operable to receive multipath calibration signals from the microwave power receiver and detect a phase at which each of the multipath calibration signals is received by the transceiver;

a transmitter configured to transmit said multipath calibration signals to said microwave power transmitter; and

,

wherein the circuitry configured to receive power transmission signals is further configured to receive a power transmission signal having a determined phase, the determined phase of the power transmission signal generated under the control of the controller at the microwave power transmitter being substantially a complex conjugate of a detected phase of the calibration signal; and

wherein the microwave power transmitter and rechargeable battery are not required to be in line of sight of each other.

2. The rechargeable battery of claim 1 wherein the determined phase is a phase angle within a margin of deviation from the complex conjugate of the detected phase of the calibration signal.

3. The rechargeable battery of claim 2 wherein the determined phase is a phase angle within plus or minus 36 degrees of the complex conjugate of the detected phase of the calibration signal.

4. The rechargeable battery of claim 1, further comprising:

a power capacitor configured to output power;

control circuitry configured to control a power level of the output power; and

a voltage control oscillator configured to control an oscillation frequency for power output by the power capacitor.

5. The rechargeable battery of claim 4 wherein the control circuitry is configured to detect a presence of additional batteries connected to the rechargeable battery and to control the power level output based upon the detection.

6. The rechargeable battery of claim 5 wherein the control circuitry includes a slider for inputting the number of additional batteries manually.

7. A rechargeable battery apparatus, comprising:

a receiver battery, the receiver battery comprising;

circuitry configured to receive power transmission signals from a wireless microwave power transmitter to charge the rechargeable battery;

a power capacitor configured to output power;

control circuitry configured to control a power level of the output power based upon a number of null batteries present; and

a voltage control oscillator configured to control an oscillation frequency for power output by the power capacitor;

wherein the wireless microwave power transmitter comprising;

a controller and a phased array antenna having a plurality of microwave array transceivers for transmitting the microwave power transmission signals, the transceiver being adaptively-phased by the controller to transmit the power transmission signals at a respective selected phase;

each transceiver further operable to receive multipath calibration signals from the microwave power receiver and detect a phase at which each of the multipath calibration signals is received by the transceiver;

a transmitter configured to transmit said multipath calibration signals to said microwave power transmitter; and

,

wherein the circuitry configured to receive power transmission signals is further configured to receive a power transmission signal having a determined phase, the determined phase of the power transmission signal generated under the control of the controller at the microwave power transmitter being substantially a complex conjugate of a detected phase of the calibration signal; and

wherein the microwave power transmitter and rechargeable battery are not required to be in line of sight of each other; and

one or more null batteries.

8. The rechargeable battery apparatus of claim 7 wherein each null battery includes an induction powered logic circuit.

9. The rechargeable battery apparatus of claim 8 wherein the induction powered logic circuit is configured such that the controller circuitry of the receiver battery utilizes the induction powered logic to determine a number of null batteries connected to the receiver battery.

10. The rechargeable battery apparatus of claim 8 wherein the induction powered logic circuit is a quasi-random generator.

11. The rechargeable battery apparatus of claim 10 wherein the control circuitry is configured to determine the number of null batteries connected to the receiver battery by determining a count of the number of quasi-random generators.

12. The rechargeable battery apparatus of claim 7 wherein the receiver battery and the one or more null batteries are rechargeable.
