Abstract

A first mobile device requests a second mobile device to navigate to a destination communicated to the second mobile device by the first mobile device, wherein at least the second mobile device, if not both the first and the second mobile devices, is GPS enabled and is capable of navigation. In one scenario, a first user of the first mobile device requests the second device (or the user of the second device) to send a notification when the second user has reached a certain destination or is in the vicinity of a certain location where the first user and the first mobile device are currently located.

Claims

1. A mobile web system, the mobile web system comprising:

a server communicatively coupled to a first mobile device and to a second mobile device, both the first and second mobile devices comprising a client software capable of interacting with the server, wherein the client software, during operation, interacts with a corresponding GPS receiver circuitry in the associated mobile device and activates navigation towards any destination specified;

the server operable to receive a request from the first mobile device to navigate to a first destination, and in response, challenges the first mobile device soliciting a security information, and, on receiving the security information from the first mobile device and verifying it, communicates the request and the first destination to the second mobile device;

the server operable to receive a consent to navigate to the first destination from the second mobile device, and in response, communicate the consent to the first mobile device for display to corresponding user; and

the server operable to receive a confirmation on reaching the destination that is sent automatically by the second mobile device, and in response, communicates the confirmation to the first mobile device for display to the corresponding user of the first mobile device.

2. The mobile web system of claim 1 wherein the security information comprises an identification and a passcode entered by a corresponding user.

3. The mobile web system of claim 1 wherein the first destination is specified in term of GPS coordinates, a landmark or a point-of-interest.

4. The mobile web system of claim 1 wherein the server communicates a second challenge to the second mobile device soliciting a second security information on receiving the confirmation that is sent automatically by the second mobile device on reaching the destination.

5. The mobile web system of claim 4 wherein server bills the user for a concert or an activity that the corresponding user of the second mobile device is able to witness or participate in at the destination, based on a response received to the second challenge.

6. The mobile web system of claim 1 wherein the server further comprises:

an interface to receive a request from the first mobile device along with the first destination;

the interface configured to communicate the request and the first destination to the second mobile device;

the interface configured to receive a confirmation from the second mobile device on reaching the destination; and

the interface configured to communicate the confirmation to the first mobile device.

7. The mobile web system of claim 1 wherein the second mobile device detects that it is “

near”

or “

approaching”

the destination and automatically, without any user intervention, creates a message and sends it as a notification to the first mobile device where it is displayed to the user.

8. The mobile web system of claim 4 wherein server automatically bills the user for a concert, movie or an activity that the user is able to witness or participate in at the destination based on a response received to the second challenge.

9. A mobile web system wherein a plurality of mobile devices are communicatively coupled to a server and are each configured to interact with the server, the mobile web system comprising:

a server with a processing circuitry and memory coupled to the processing circuitry;

interface circuitry coupled to the processing circuitry for communicating information to and from the server, wherein the processing circuit, memory, and interface circuitry interoperate to enable the following;

an interface to receive a request along with a first destination;

the interface configured to communicate the request and the first destination to at least one of the plurality of mobile devices;

the interface configured to receive a confirmation from each of the at least one of the plurality of mobile devices as they reach the destination; and

the interface configured to receive any followup messages from the at least one of the plurality of mobile devices after they have each reached the destination.

10. The mobile web system of claim 9 wherein the request originates at a first mobile device among the plurality of mobile devices.

11. The mobile web system of claim 9 wherein the request originates at the server.

12. The mobile web system of claim 9 further comprising:

a billing server communicatively coupled to the server;

the sever operable to communicate an invitation for an event along with GPS coordinates or a landmark information, and with a passcode, to the at least one of the plurality of mobile devices;

the server, via the interface, receives arrival notification from the at least one of the plurality of mobile devices, in response to which the server sends them a challenge requesting the entry of the passcode; and

the server authenticates the corresponding users of the at least one of the plurality of mobile devices and bills them for the event, employing the billing server.

13. The mobile web system of claim 12 wherein the event is a concert, a movie, an open air activity, that the users of the at least one of the plurality of mobile devices are able to witness or participate in.

The mobile web system of claim 12 wherein the arrival notification comprises a recipient GPS coordinate retrieved from the corresponding one of the at least one of the plurality of mobile devices, and wherein the server verifies the arrival of the at least one of the plurality of mobile devices at the destination based on the recipient GPS coordinate.

15. A method performed by a server having a network interface that supports communication with a plurality of mobile devices, the method comprising the steps of:

receiving a request to navigate, along with a destination information;

determining recipients and target devices associated with the recipients;

communicating the request and the destination information to the target devices;

communicating a challenge to the target devices soliciting a security information for authentication; and

receiving a notification from the authenticated target devices as they reach the destination.

16. The method of claim 15 wherein the request to navigate originates at a web browser via the network interface.

17. The method of claim 15 further comprising:

monitoring progress towards the destination by the target devices; and

reporting progress made by the target devices periodically, and when requested, to at least one of plurality of mobile devices.

18. The method of claim 15 further comprising:

in response to the request, challenging the sender of the request for security information.

19. The method of claim 15 further comprising:

in response to the notification, optionally communicating a challenge to the target devices soliciting a security information.

20. The method of claim 15 further comprising:

determining attendance at the destination based on notifications received from the target devices.
