Abstract

A member of a modular bone plate is provided, the member comprising a top surface defining a top plane; a bottom surface defining a bottom plane; a connection portion including a hole with a center axis that intersects the top plane and the bottom plane; wherein a first portion of the edge of the hole is provided with a projection forming a first free end of the member and wherein a second portion of the edge of the hole is provided with a groove that is configured to accommodate a projection of a connection portion of a second member of the modular bone plate. Furthermore, a modular bone plate having at least two such members is provided.

Claims

1. A member of a modular bone plate, the member comprising

a top surface defining a top plane;

a bottom surface defining a bottom plane;

a connection portion including a hole with a center axis that intersects the top plane and the bottom plane;

wherein a first portion of the edge of the hole is provided with a projection forming a first free end of the member and

wherein a second portion of the edge of the hole is provided with a groove that is configured to accommodate a projection of a connection portion of a second member of the modular bone plate.

2. The member of claim 1, wherein the projection is at least partially circular.

3. The member of claim 1, wherein the groove is at least partially circular.

4. The member of claim 1, wherein the projection and the groove are arranged on opposite sides from the hole.

5. The member of claim 1, wherein the projection extends around approximately half of the circumference of the hole.

6. The member of claim 1, wherein the groove extends around approximately half of the circumference of the hole.

7. The member of claim 1, wherein the length of the groove in a circumferential direction corresponds substantially to the length of the projection in a circumferential direction.

8. The member of claim 1, wherein the arrangement of the projection and the groove is such that the distance of the projection to the bottom surface in a direction perpendicular to the bottom surface is smaller than the distance of the groove to the bottom surface)

9. The member of claim 1, wherein the arrangement of the projection and the groove is such that the distance of the projection to the top surface in a direction perpendicular to the top surface is smaller than the distance of the groove to the top surface.

10. The member of claim 1, wherein the arrangement of the projection and the groove is such that the distance of the projection to the top surface in a direction perpendicular to the bottom surface is larger than the distance of the groove to the bottom surface.

11. The member of claim 1, wherein the hole is at least partially threaded.

12. The member of claim 1, wherein the hole comprises a spherically-shaped portion providing a seat for a spherical head of a bone anchor.

13. The member of claim 12, wherein the spherically-shaped portion is arranged between a threaded portion and the bottom surface.

14. The member of claim 1, wherein the member comprises at least a further hole extending from the top surface to the bottom surface.

15. The member of claim 14, wherein the at least one further hole is at least partially threaded and/or has a spherically-shaped portion providing a seat for a spherical head of a bone anchor.

16. The member of claim 1, wherein the member comprises a further connection portion including a hole with a center axis that intersects the top plane and the bottom plane;

wherein a first portion of the edge of the hole is provided with a projection forming a second free end of the member opposite to the first free end and

wherein a second portion of the edge of the hole is provided with a groove that is configured to accommodate a projection of a connection portion of a second member of the modular bone plate.

17. A modular bone plate including at least a first member and a second member, wherein each member is a member according to claim 1;

wherein the first member is configured to be coupled to the second member in that the projection of the first member is inserted into the groove of the second member.

18. The modular bone plate of claim 17, wherein the bottom surface of the first member is flush with the bottom surface of the second member when the first member and the second member are coupled.

19. The modular bone plate of claim 17, wherein the first member and the second member include an angle with respect to each other.

20. The modular bone plate of claim 18, wherein the first member and the second member include an angle with respect to each other.
