Abstract

A method of navigating between a plurality of different views of a home screen of a mobile communications device is provide. The mobile communications device includes a home button, a processor, and a display panel configured to cooperate with the processor to display one of the views of the home screen. The method includes selectively displaying one of the views of the home screen on the display panel based on a number of times the home button is activated within a predetermined time period. A non-transitory computer-readable medium and a mobile communications device of navigating between a plurality of different views of a home screen of a mobile communications device are also provided.

Claims

1. A method of navigating between a plurality of different views of a home screen of a mobile communications device, the mobile communications device comprising a home button, a processor, and a display panel configured to cooperate with the processor to display one of the views of the home screen, the method comprising:

selectively displaying one of the views of the home screen on the display panel based on a number of times the home button is activated within a predetermined time period.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the selectively displaying step includes:

displaying one of an immediately previous view of the home screen and a predetermined one of the views of the home screen on the display panel when the home button is activated once within the predetermined time period; and

displaying the other one of the immediately previous view of the home screen and the predetermined one of the views of the home screen on the display panel when the home button is activated twice within the predetermined time period.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the selectively displaying step includes:

displaying the predetermined one of the views of the home screen on the display panel when the home button is activated more than twice within the predetermined time period.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

displaying a toggle switch icon on the display panel exhibiting a specific one of the views that is not currently displayed;

switching from a first one of the views of the home screen that is currently displayed to a second one of the views of the home screen upon activation of the toggle switch icon; and

switching from the second one of the views of the home screen that is currently displayed back to the first one of the views of the home screen upon further activation of the toggle switch icon.

The method of claim 4, wherein the toggle switch icon exhibits a representative of the second one of the views when the first one of the views of the home screen is currently display, and the toggle switch icon exhibits a representative of the first one of the views when the second one of the views of the home screen is currently display.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the views includes a Feed View displaying weather information and a plurality of feeds from one or more feed sources, a Widget View displaying at least one widget, and an All Apps View displaying a plurality of application icons as shortcuts to activate corresponding applications.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

switching between the Feed View and the Widget View in response to a horizontal panning.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the selectively displaying step includes:

displaying a predetermined one of the views of the home screen on the display panel when the home button is activated once within the predetermined time period.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the selectively displaying step further includes:

when the predetermined one of the views of the home screen is currently displayed and the home button is activated once within the predetermined time period, taking the predetermined one of the views of the home screen to a top of the predetermined one of the views of the home screen on the display panel.

10. A non-transitory computer-readable medium containing a computer program product comprising mobile communications device executable instructions for navigating between a plurality of different views of a home screen of a mobile communications device, the mobile communications device comprising a home button, a processor, and a display panel configured to cooperate with the processor to display one of the views of the home screen, the mobile communications device executable instructions comprising:

selectively displaying one of the views of the home screen on the display panel based on a number of times the home button is activated within a predetermined time period.

11. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10, wherein the mobile communications device executable instructions of selectively displaying one of the views of the home screen include:

displaying one of an immediately previous view of the home screen and a predetermined one of the views of the home screen on the display panel when the home button is activated once within the predetermined time period; and

displaying the other one of the immediately previous view of the home screen and the predetermined one of the views of the home screen on the display panel when the home button is activated twice within the predetermined time period.

12. A mobile communications device comprising:

a home button;

a display panel; and

a processor connected to the display panel and the home button, and configured to navigate between a plurality of different views of a home screen, wherein the processor is further configured to cooperate with the display panel to;

selectively display one of the views of the home screen on the display panel based on a number of times the home button is activated within a predetermined time period.

13. The mobile communications device of claim 12, wherein the processor is further configured to cooperate with the display panel to:

display one of an immediately previous view of the home screen and a predetermined one of the views of the home screen on the display panel when the home button is activated once within the predetermined time period; and

display the other one of the immediately previous view of the home screen and the predetermined one of the views of the home screen on the display panel when the home button is activated twice within the predetermined time period.

14. The mobile communications device of claim 13, wherein the processor is further configured to cooperate with the display panel to:

display the predetermined one of the views of the home screen on the display panel when the home button is activated more than twice within the predetermined time period.

15. The mobile communications device of claim 12, wherein the processor is further configured to cooperate with the display panel to

display a toggle switch icon on the display panel exhibiting a specific one of the views that is not currently displayed;

switch from a first one of the views of the home screen that is currently displayed to a second one of the views of the home screen upon activation of the toggle switch icon; and

switch from the second one of the views of the home screen that is currently displayed back to the first one of the views of the home screen upon further activation of the toggle switch icon.

16. The mobile communications device of claim 15, wherein the toggle switch icon exhibits a representative of the second one of the views when the first one of the views of the home screen is currently display, and the toggle switch icon exhibits a representative of the first one of the views when the second one of the views of the home screen is currently display.

17. The mobile communications device of claim 12, wherein the views includes a Feed View displaying weather information and a plurality of feeds from one or more feed sources, a Widget View displaying at least one widget, and an All Apps View displaying a plurality of application icons as shortcuts to activate corresponding applications.

18. The mobile communications device of claim 17, wherein the processor is further configured to cooperate with the display panel to:

switching between the Feed View and the Widget View in response to a horizontal panning.

19. The mobile communications device of claim 12, wherein the processor is further configured to cooperate with the display panel to:

display a predetermined one of the views of the home screen on the display panel when the home button is activated once within the predetermined time period.

20. The mobile communications device of claim 19, wherein the processor is further configured to cooperate with the display panel to:

when the predetermined one of the views of the home screen is currently displayed and the home button is activated once within the predetermined time period, take the predetermined one of the views of the home screen to a top of the predetermined one of the views of the home screen on the display panel.
