Abstract

In an embodiment, a cement composition includes: (i) hydraulic cement, wherein the hydraulic cement has a ratio of CaO to SiO₂ in the range of 2.0 to 4.0; and (ii) a water-soluble metaphosphate in a concentration of at least 2.5% bwoc. In another embodiment, a cement composition includes: (i) hydraulic cement, wherein the hydraulic cement has a ratio of CaO to SiO₂ of less than 2.0; and (ii) a water-soluble metaphosphate; wherein any alkali nitrate is in a concentration of less than 2% bwoc; and wherein any alkali hydroxide, alkali carbonate, or alkali citrate is in a concentration of less than 0.2% bwoc. Methods of cementing in a well include forming either of such cement compositions and introducing it into the well.

Claims

1. A method of cementing a treatment zone of a well, the method comprising the steps of:

(A) forming a cement composition comprising;

(i) hydraulic cement, wherein the hydraulic cement has a ratio of CaO to SiO₂ in the range of 2.0 to 4.0;

(ii) a water-soluble metaphosphate in a concentration of at least 2.5% bwoc; and

(iii) water; and

(B) introducing the cement composition into the well.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the metaphosphate comprises a hexametaphosphate.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the metaphosphate is selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal metaphosphate, an ammonium metaphosphate, and any combination thereof.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the metaphosphate is in a concentration of less than 10% bwoc.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein any alkali nitrate is in a concentration of less than 2% bwoc.

6. The method according to claim 1, wherein any alkali hydroxide, alkali carbonate, or alkali citrate is in a concentration of less than 0.2% bwoc.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein any calcium aluminoferrite is in a concentration of less than 15% bwoc.

8. The method according to claim 1, wherein the design temperature is in the range of 100°

F. to 170°

F.

9. A method of cementing a treatment zone of a well, the method comprising the steps of:

(A) forming a cement composition comprising;

(i) hydraulic cement, wherein the hydraulic cement has a ratio of CaO to SiO₂ of less than 2.0;

(ii) a water-soluble metaphosphate in a concentration of at least 2.5% bwoc; and

(iii) water;

wherein any alkali nitrate is in a concentration of less than 2% bwoc; and

wherein any alkali hydroxide, alkali carbonate, or alkali citrate is in a concentration of less than 0.2% bwoc; and

(B) introducing the cement composition into the well.

10. The method according to claim 9, wherein the metaphosphate comprises a hexametaphosphate.

11. The method according to claim 9, wherein the metaphosphate is selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal metaphosphate, an ammonium metaphosphate, and any combination thereof.

12. The method according to claim 9, wherein the metaphosphate is in a concentration in the range of 0.25% bwoc to 10% bwoc.

13. The method according to claim 9, wherein any calcium aluminoferrite is in a concentration of less than 15% bwoc.

14. The method according to claim 9, wherein the design temperature is in the range of 100°
