Abstract

Provided are techniques for summarizing statistical results. Multiple sets of statistical results are received, wherein each of the sets of statistical results are ordered according to interestingness. Insights are generated based on the multiple sets of statistical results. Relationships between the generated insights are identified. An executive summary is generated with a set of findings based on the identified relationships. An interactive visualization is provided with the generated insights based on the executive summary.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, with a processor of a computer, multiple sets of statistical results generated for a dataset including fields, wherein each of the sets of statistical results are ordered according to an interestingness index, wherein, for each of the fields, the interestingness index is computed as a combination of sub-indexes, wherein each of the sub-indexes is derived from a statistical metric for that field;

generating, with the processor of the computer, insights based on the multiple sets of statistical results;

identifying, with the processor of the computer, relationships between the generated insights;

generating, with the processor of the computer, an executive summary with a set of findings based on the identified relationships; and

providing, with the processor of the computer, an interactive visualization with the generated insights based on the executive summary.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

organizing each set from the multiple sets of statistical results into a hierarchy having the generated insights, wherein the hierarchy starts with general insights and progressively reveals more detailed insights.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein each set from the multiple sets of statistical results are organized into the hierarchy having the generated insights using one or more templates.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

updating a visualization in response to user selection of an insight from the generated insights.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the relationships between the generated insights are identified using one or more of heuristics, business rules, and prior actions of a user.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein generating the insights further comprises:

generating a first set of insights based on a subset of data characteristics derived from data evaluation;

generating a second set of insights based on a subset of the sets of statistical results derived from exploration enablement; and

generating a third set of insights based on statistical output derived from predictive modeling.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein a Software as a Service (SaaS) is provided to perform the method.

8. A computer system, comprising:

a processor; and

a storage device connected to the processor, wherein the storage device has stored thereon a program, and wherein the processor is configured to execute instructions of the program to perform operations, wherein the operations comprise;

receiving multiple sets of statistical results generated for a dataset including fields, wherein each of the sets of statistical results are ordered according to an interestingness index, wherein, for each of the fields, the interestingness index is computed as a combination of sub-indexes, wherein each of the sub-indexes is derived from a statistical metric for that field;

generating insights based on the multiple sets of statistical results;

identifying relationships between the generated insights;

generating an executive summary with a set of findings based on the identified relationships; and

providing an interactive visualization with the generated insights based on the executive summary.

9. The computer system of claim 8, wherein the operations further comprise:

organizing each set from the multiple sets of statistical results into a hierarchy having the generated insights, wherein the hierarchy starts with general insights and progressively reveals more detailed insights.

10. The computer system of claim 9, wherein each set from the multiple sets of statistical results are organized into the hierarchy having the generated insights using one or more templates.

11. The computer system of claim 8, wherein the operations further comprise:

updating a visualization in response to user selection of an insight from the generated insights.

12. The computer system of claim 8, wherein the relationships between the generated insights are identified using one or more of heuristics, business rules, and prior actions of a user.

13. The computer system of claim 8, wherein the operations for generating the insights further comprise:

generating a first set of insights based on a subset of data characteristics derived from data evaluation;

generating a second set of insights based on a subset of the sets of statistical results derived from exploration enablement; and

generating a third set of insights based on statistical output derived from predictive modeling.

14. The computer system of claim 8, wherein a Software as a Service (SaaS) is provided to perform the system operations.

15. A computer program product, comprising:

a computer readable storage medium having computer readable program code embodied therewith, wherein, the computer readable program code, when executed by at least one processor, is configured to perform operations comprising;

receiving multiple sets of statistical results generated for a dataset including fields, wherein each of the sets of statistical results are ordered according to an interestingness index, wherein, for each of the fields, the interestingness index is computed as a combination of sub-indexes, wherein each of the sub-indexes is derived from a statistical metric for that field;

generating insights based on the multiple sets of statistical results;

identifying relationships between the generated insights;

generating an executive summary with a set of findings based on the identified relationships; and

providing an interactive visualization with the generated insights based on the executive summary.

16. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein, the computer readable program code, when executed by the at least one processor, is configured to perform operations comprising:

organizing each set from the multiple sets of statistical results into a hierarchy having the generated insights, wherein the hierarchy starts with general insights and progressively reveals more detailed insights.

17. The computer program product of claim 16, wherein each set from the multiple sets of statistical results are organized into the hierarchy having the generated insights using one or more templates.

18. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein, the computer readable program code, when executed by the at least one processor, is configured to perform operations comprising:

updating a visualization in response to user selection of an insight from the generated insights.

19. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the relationships between the generated insights are identified using one or more of heuristics, business rules, and prior actions of a user.

20. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein, when generating the insights, the computer readable program code, when executed by the at least one processor, is configured to perform operations comprising:

generating a first set of insights based on a subset of data characteristics derived from data evaluation;

generating a second set of insights based on a subset of the sets of statistical results derived from exploration enablement; and

generating a third set of insights based on statistical output derived from predictive modeling.

21. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein a Software as a Service (SaaS) is configured to perform the computer program product operations.
