Abstract

The invention provides a large technological infrastructure to provide a unique comparison of athletic performance using a system. The system can include a unique point system and can compare aggregate athletic performances of different users across different geographical tracks or sections (i.e., Courses). Advantageously, people who cannot do the same course(s) can compete with one another; aggregate performances can be accumulated to give an overall performance metric; and people with differing abilities can compete with one another.

Claims

1. A method for ranking performances of outdoor activities, comprising:

in response to a request for a leaderboard received from a user device, retrieving, by a performance ranking system having a processor and a memory, course points associated with a plurality of users of the performance ranking system, the request for leaderboard containing filter information;

determining ranking criteria based on the filter information contained in the request for leaderboard;

ranking the plurality of users based on an aggregate of the course points for each of the plurality of users;

building the requested leaderboard according to the ranking; and

transmitting the requested leaderboard to the user device over a network.

2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

aggregating individual course points for each of the plurality of users on a per course basis within a time interval, using activity data associated with each user.

3. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

adding non-performance based points to the aggregate before the ranking.

4. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

determining a total point for each user across a plurality of courses.

5. The method according to claim 4, further comprising:

determining a category for each of the plurality of courses; and

determining a maximum available point for the category.

6. The method according to claim 4, where the plurality of courses comprises at least a time limited event.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the plurality of users comprises groups of users and wherein the ranking the plurality of users comprises ranking the groups of users.

8. A computer program product comprising at least one non-transitory compute readable medium storing instructions translatable by a performance ranking system having a processor and a memory to perform:

in response to a request for a leaderboard received from a user device, retrieving course points associated with a plurality of users of the performance ranking system, the request for leaderboard containing filter information;

determining ranking criteria based on the filter information contained in the request for leaderboard;

ranking the plurality of users based on an aggregate of the course points for each of the plurality of users;

building the requested leaderboard according to the ranking; and

transmitting the requested leaderboard to the user device over a network.

9. The computer program product of claim 8, wherein the instructions are further translatable by the performance ranking system to perform:

aggregating individual course points for each of the plurality of users on a per course basis within a time interval, using activity data associated with each user.

10. The computer program product of claim 8, wherein the instructions are further translatable by the performance ranking system to perform:

adding non-performance based points to the aggregate before the ranking.

11. The computer program product of claim 8, wherein the instructions are further translatable by the performance ranking system to perform:

determining a total point for each user across a plurality of courses.

12. The computer program product of claim 11, wherein the instructions are further translatable by the performance ranking system to perform:

determining a category for each of the plurality of courses; and

determining a maximum available point for the category.

13. The computer program product of claim 11, where the plurality of courses comprises at least a time limited event.

14. The computer program product of claim 8, wherein the plurality of users comprises groups of users and wherein the ranking the plurality of users comprises ranking the groups of users.

15. A system, comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one non-transitory compute readable medium storing instructions translatable by the at least one processor to perform;

in response to a request for a leaderboard received from a user device, retrieving course points associated with a plurality of users of the system, the request for leaderboard containing filter information;

determining ranking criteria based on the filter information contained in the request for leaderboard;

ranking the plurality of users based on an aggregate of the course points for each of the plurality of users;

building the requested leaderboard according to the ranking; and

transmitting the requested leaderboard to the user device over a network.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the instructions are further translatable by the at least one processor to perform:

aggregating individual course points for each of the plurality of users on a per course basis within a time interval, using activity data associated with each user.

17. The system of claim 15, wherein the instructions are further translatable by the at least one processor to perform:

adding non-performance based points to the aggregate before the ranking.

18. The system of claim 15, wherein the instructions are further translatable by the at least one processor to perform:

determining a total point for each user across a plurality of courses.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the instructions are further translatable by the at least one processor to perform:

determining a category for each of the plurality of courses; and

determining a maximum available point for the category.

20. The system of claim 18, where the plurality of courses comprises at least a time limited event.

21. The system of claim 15, wherein the plurality of users comprises groups of users and wherein the ranking the plurality of users comprises ranking the groups of users.
