1. A method for ranking performances of outdoor activities, comprising:
- in response to a request for a leaderboard received from a user device, retrieving, by a performance ranking system having a processor and a memory, course points associated with a plurality of users of the performance ranking system, the request for leaderboard containing filter information;
determining ranking criteria based on the filter information contained in the request for leaderboard;
ranking the plurality of users based on an aggregate of the course points for each of the plurality of users;
building the requested leaderboard according to the ranking; and
transmitting the requested leaderboard to the user device over a network.

Abstract
The invention provides a large technological infrastructure to provide a unique comparison of athletic performance using a system. The system can include a unique point system and can compare aggregate athletic performances of different users across different geographical tracks or sections (i.e., Courses). Advantageously, people who cannot do the same course(s) can compete with one another; aggregate performances can be accumulated to give an overall performance metric; and people with differing abilities can compete with one another.
