Abstract

Provided is a distributed system and method for enabling new and useful location dependent features and functionality to mobile data processing systems. Mobile data processing systems (MSs) interact with each other as peers in communications and interoperability. Data is shared between mobile data processing systems to carry out novel Location Based eXchanges (LBX) of data for new mobile applications. Information which is transmitted inbound to, transmitted outbound from, or is in process at, a mobile data processing system, is used to trigger processing of actions in accordance with user configured permissions, charters, and other configurations. In a preferred embodiment, a user configurable platform is provided for quickly building well behaving LBX applications at MSs and across a plurality of interoperating MSs.

Claims

1. A method by a mobile data processing system, the method comprising:

maintaining, by the mobile data processing system and local to the mobile data processing system, a location based permission including a first identity and a second identity, the location based permission permitting a location based action to be performed by the mobile data processing system;

processing, by the mobile data processing system, information for a wireless data record, the information for the wireless data record having an associated identity;

comparing, by the mobile data processing system, the location based permission for matching the associated identity with the first identity or the second identity upon the processing, by the mobile data processing system, the information for the wireless data record;

determining, by the mobile data processing system, the associated identity matches the first identity or the second identity;

determining, by the mobile data processing system, one or more locational conditions using the information for the wireless data record; and

performing, by the mobile data processing system, the location based action in accordance with the location based permission and the one or more locational conditions, after the determining, by the mobile data processing system, the associated identity matches the first identity or the second identity.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the first identity is associated to the mobile data processing system.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein the second identity grants the location based action to the first identity with the location based permission.

4. The method of claim 3 wherein the associated identity matches the second identity and the location based action provides a location based feature intended for benefitting a user associated with the second identity.

5. The method of claim 3 wherein the associated identity matches the first identity and the location based action provides a location based feature intended for benefitting a user associated with the second identity.

6. The method of claim 3 wherein the associated identity matches the second identity and the location based action provides a location based feature intended for benefitting a user associated with the first identity.

7. The method of claim 2 wherein the first identity grants the location based action to the second identity with the location based permission.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein the associated identity matches the second identity and the location based action provides a location based feature intended for benefitting a user associated with the second identity.

9. The method of claim 7 wherein the associated identity matches the first identity and the location based action provides a location based feature intended for benefitting a user associated with the second identity.

10. The method of claim 7 wherein the associated identity matches the second identity and the location based action provides a location based feature intended for benefitting a user associated with the first identity.

11. The method of claim 2 wherein the first identity grants the location based action to the first identity with the location based permission, and wherein the associated identity matches the first identity and the location based action provides a location based feature intended for benefitting a user associated with the first identity.

12. The method of claim 2 including:

providing an administration user interface to a user of the mobile data processing system for administrating an other location based permission including the first identity and the second identity, wherein the first identity grants to the second identity a permission for an other location based action to be performed by an other mobile data processing system, the second identity being associated to the other mobile data processing system; and

communicating the other location based permission to the other mobile data processing system for effectual use at the other mobile data processing system.

The method of claim 12 wherein the first identity is administrated for matching an identity associated with information for a wireless data record processed by the other mobile data processing system and the other location based action provides a location based feature intended for benefitting a user associated with the second identity.

14. The method of claim 12 wherein the first identity is administrated for matching an identity associated with information for a wireless data record processed by the other mobile data processing system and the other location based action provides a location based feature intended for benefitting a user associated with the first identity.

15. The method of claim 12 wherein the second identity is administrated for matching an identity associated with information for a wireless data record processed by the other mobile data processing system and the other location based action provides a location based feature intended for benefitting a user associated with the first identity.

16. The method of claim 1 wherein the processing, by the mobile data processing system, information for the wireless data record, includes processing the information prior to transmitting the wireless data record outbound.

17. The method of claim 1 wherein the processing, by the mobile data processing system, information for the wireless data record, includes processing the information after inbound receipt of the wireless data record.

18. The method of claim 1 wherein the processing, by the mobile data processing system, information for the wireless data record, includes processing the information for insertion to a historical collection of information, the historical collection of information containing information for a plurality of data processing systems detected by the mobile data processing system to have been in the wireless vicinity of the mobile data processing system.

19. The method of claim 1 wherein the location based permission includes a time specification describing when the location based permission is in effect.

20. The method of claim 1 wherein the location based permission can be cloned by a user of an other mobile data processing system for subsequent use by the user of the other mobile data processing system.

21. The method of claim 1 wherein the first identity or the second identity or the associated identity is an identity of a group.

22. The method of claim 1 wherein a user associated to a third identity has an impersonation privilege for administrating the location based permission.

23. The method of claim 1 wherein the location based permission belongs to a permission group or permission hierarchy.

24. The method of claim 1 wherein the location based permission grants at least one semantic privilege or at least one grammar specification privilege.

25. A mobile data processing system, comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory coupled to the one or more processors, wherein the memory includes executable instructions, which when executed by the one or more processors, results in the system;

maintaining, by the mobile data processing system and local to the mobile data processing system, a location based permission including a first identity and a second identity, the location based permission permitting a location based action to be performed by the mobile data processing system;

processing, by the mobile data processing system, information for a wireless data record, the information for the wireless data record having an associated identity;

comparing, by the mobile data processing system, the location based permission for matching the associated identity with the first identity or the second identity upon the processing, by the mobile data processing system, the information for the wireless data record;

determining, by the mobile data processing system, the associated identity matches the first identity or the second identity;

determining, by the mobile data processing system, one or more locational conditions using the information for the wireless data record; and

performing, by the mobile data processing system, the location based action in accordance with the location based permission and the one or more locational conditions, after the determining, by the mobile data processing system, the associated identity matches the first identity or the second identity.
