1. A variable gain system for separating and mixing audio tracks from a pre-recorded musical work, the system comprising:

  • a processor;

    a pre-recorded, multi-track recording on a non-transitory computer readable storage medium, the pre-recorded, multi-track recording having a pre-recorded, isolated instrument audio track that is separable from the remainder of the pre-recorded, multi-track recording;

    a transformation module on a non-transitory computer readable storage medium for transforming the multi-track digital audio file into a variety of ratios of track volumes between at least two tracks within the pre-recorded, multi-track recording, where a track volume includes a gain selection, the gain selection ranging from a minimum volume to a maximum volume and including at least three settings;

    wherein,the transformation module is operably connected to the processor and enables the separation and mixing of tracks in the pre-recorded multi-track recording; and

    ,the system facilitates (i) a recording of an emulated instrument audio track on a computer readable medium by a user of the system and (ii) a remixing of the recording by the user with the remainder of the pre-recorded multi-track recording.
