Abstract

An approach is provided for determining location offset information. A correction manager determines to present, at a device, a location-based display including one or more representations of one or more location-based features. Next, the correction manager receives an input for specifying offset information for at least one of the one or more representations with respect to the location-based display. Then, the correction manager determines to present the one or more representations in the location-based display based, at least in part, on the offset information.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

determining to present, at a device, one or more representations of one or more location-based features; and

receiving an input for specifying offset information for at least one of the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features;

wherein the offset information is used to present the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein location information, orientation information, or some combination thereof is associated with the one or more location-based features.

3. The method of claim 2, comprising determining accuracy information associated with the location information, the orientation information, or some combination thereof, wherein the accuracy information is used to present the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features.

4. The method of claim 3, comprising:

determining whether the accuracy information is within a predetermined accuracy threshold; and

determining to use the offset information to present the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features based, at least in part, on whether the accuracy information is within the predetermined accuracy threshold.

5. The method of claim 1, comprising:

determining to store the offset information; and

determining to use the stored offset information to present the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features.

6. The method of claim 1, comprising determining to transmit the offset information to one or more other devices within proximity of the device, wherein the offset information is used to present the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features on the one or more other devices.

7. The method of claim 1, comprising determining an approximate location of the device or a user of the device for use by a navigation service, a mapping service, a location-based service, or some combination thereof.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the input comprises receiving a movement of one of the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features, receiving a captured image, receiving an indication of an approximate location, or some combination thereof.

9. The method of claim 1, comprising:

determining to retrieve other offset information associated with one or more other devices, collected at one or more other time instances, or some combination thereof; and

determining to generate aggregated offset information based, at least in part, on the offset information, the other offset information, or some combination thereof.

10. The method of claim 9, comprising:

determining to categorize the offset information, the other offset information, or some combination thereof according to at least a type of device, a type of location sensor, a source of location information, or some combination thereof, wherein the aggregated offset information is based, at least in part, on the categorization.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the device comprises an augmented reality display, a mixed reality display, a virtual reality display, a mapping display, a navigation display, or some combination thereof for presenting the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features.

12. An apparatus comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one tangible non-transitory computer-readable memory including computer program code configured to be executed by the at least one processor, wherein the computer program code is configured to;

determine to present, at the apparatus, one or more representations of one or more location-based features; and

receive an input for specifying offset information for at least one of the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features;

wherein the offset information is used to present the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features.

13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein location information, orientation information, or some combination thereof is associated with the one or more location-based features.

14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the computer program code is configured to determine accuracy information associated with the location information, the orientation information, or some combination thereof, wherein the accuracy information is used to present the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the computer program code is configured to:

determine whether the accuracy information is within a predetermined accuracy threshold; and

determine to use the offset information to present the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features based, at least in part, on whether the accuracy information is within the predetermined accuracy threshold.

16. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the computer program code is configured to:

determine to store the offset information; and

determine to apply the stored offset information to present the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features.

17. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the computer program code is configured to determine to transmit the offset information to one or more other devices within proximity of the device, wherein the offset information is used to present the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features on the one or more other devices.

18. A tangible non-transitory computer-readable medium including computer program code configured to be executed by at least one processor, wherein the computer program code is configured to:

determine to present, at the apparatus, one or more representations of one or more location-based features; and

receive an input for specifying offset information for at least one of the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features;

wherein the offset information is used to present the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features.

19. The computer-readable medium of claim 18, wherein location information, orientation information, or some combination thereof is associated with the one or more location-based features.

20. The computer-readable medium of claim 19, wherein the computer program code is configured to determine accuracy information associated with the location information, the orientation information, or some combination thereof, wherein the accuracy information is used to present the one or more representations of the one or more location-based features.
