Abstract

A smartphone protective cover that houses a glucose monitor, test strips, lancets, a lancet striker, a power source, and a biohazard debris receptacle is presented. According to the preferred embodiment of the invention, the protective covering is configured to include a smartphone adapted glucose monitor and also to accept a smartphone. In the preferred embodiment, the smartphone is removably placed into the protective covering with the glucose monitor connecting to a data receptacle on the smartphone. The protective further includes a lancet storage compartment adjacent to a lancet striker having a tension control member and striker release button, a test strip storage compartment, and a biohazard debris receptacle. The lancet storage compartment and test strip storage compartment can be re-fillable or disposable. A battery is also located in the cover and is electrically connected to the glucose for monitor, thus enabling the monitor to be powered independently of the phone. A method of use is also provided.

Claims

1. A smartphone adapted glucose monitoring system comprising:

a system cover;

a test strip storage compartment;

a lancet storage compartment;

a lancet striker;

a biohazard material receptacle; and

,

a power source.

2. The system of claim 1 further comprising a glucose monitor.

3. The glucose monitor of claim 2 further comprising a data port connector for attaching to a smartphone.

4. The system of claim 1 wherein one or more of the test strip storage compartment, lancet storage compartment, and biohazard material receptacle are reversibly coupled to the system cover.

5. The system of claim 1 wherein the system cover further comprises a top portion and a bottom portion, the top portion and bottom portion reversibly affixing to one another at a physical interface, the system cover further adapted to accept a smartphone.

6. The system of claim 1 wherein the lancet striker further comprises a chamber for holding a lancet, a tension adjuster, and a striker release button.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein the power source is a battery.

8. The system of claim 1 wherein the power source is a smartphone.

9. The system of claim 1 further comprising a storage container adapted to reversibly affix to the system cover.

10. The storage container of claim 9 reversibly affixing to the system cover by a groove and lip attachment or a friction fitting.

11. A smartphone adapted blood sample testing system for testing one or more blood components parameters comprising:

a system cover;

a test strip storage compartment;

a lancet storage compartment;

a lancet striker;

a biohazard material receptacle; and

,

a power source.

12. The system of claim 11 further comprising a monitor.

13. The monitor of claim 12 further comprising a data port connector for attaching to a smartphone.

14. The system of claim 11 wherein one or more of the test strip storage compartment, lancet storage compartment, and biohazard material receptacle are reversibly coupled to the system cover.

15. The system of claim 11 wherein the system cover further comprises a top portion and a bottom portion, the cover further adapted to accept a smartphone.

16. The system of claim 11 wherein the lancet striker further comprises a chamber for holding a lancet, a tension adjuster, and a striker release button.

17. The system of claim 11 wherein the power source is a battery.

18. The system of claim 11 wherein the power source is a smartphone.

19. The system of claim 11 further comprising a storage container adapted to reversibly affix to the system cover.

20. The storage container of claim 19 reversibly affixing to the system cover by a groove and lip attachment or a friction fitting.

21. A smartphone adapted sample testing system for testing one or more body fluid components comprising a body fluid component tester, a system cover, and at least one storage compartment.

22. The testing system of claim 21 wherein the at least one storage compartment is selected singularly or in combination from the group comprising a test material storage compartment, a lancet storage compartment, and a biohazard material receptacle.

23. The testing system of claim 21 further comprising a lancet striker.

24. The testing system of claim 21 further comprising a power source.

25. The tester of claim 21 further comprising a data port connector for attaching to a smartphone.

26. The testing system of claim 21 wherein at least on storage compartment is reversibly coupled to the system cover.

27. The testing system of claim 21 wherein the system cover further comprises a top portion and a bottom portion, the cover further adapted to accept a smartphone.

28. The lancet striker of claim 23 further comprising a chamber for holding a lancet, a tension adjuster, and a striker release button.

29. The power source of claim 24 wherein the power source is a battery.

30. The power source of claim 24 wherein the power source is a smartphone.

31. The sample testing system of claim 21 further comprising a storage container adapted to reversibly affix to the system cover.

32. The storage container of claim 31 reversibly affixing to the system cover by a groove and lip attachment or a friction fitting.

33. The sample testing system of claim 21 wherein the tester can measure, either singularly or in combination, body fluid components selected from the group comprising cholesterol, low density lipoproteins, very low density lipoproteins, high density lipoproteins, triglycerides, hemoglobin a1c, C-reactive protein, insulin, human growth hormone, estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, sex hormone binding protein, DHEA-S, thyroid stimulating hormone, T3, T4, thyroid peroxidase antibody, prostate stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and follicle stimulating hormone.

34. A smartphone based glucose monitoring system comprising a protective cover, the protective cover further including a top portion and a bottom portion, the bottom portion further being adapted to house a glucose monitor, the protective covering top portion and bottom portion together adapted to accept a smartphone and, further reversibly coupling to one another at a physical interface, the protective cover further including a test strip storage compartment, a lancet storage compartment, a biohazard material receptacle, a lancet striker, and a power source.

35. The glucose monitor of claim 34 further comprising a data port connector for attaching to a smartphone.

36. The system of claim 34 wherein one or more of the test strip storage compartment, lancet storage compartment, and biohazard material receptacle are reversibly coupled to the system cover.

37. The system of claim 34 wherein the lancet striker further comprises a chamber for holding a lancet, a tension adjuster, and a striker release button.

38. The system of claim 34 wherein the power source is a battery.

39. The system of claim 34 wherein the power source is the smartphone.

40. The system of claim 34 further comprising a storage container adapted to reversibly affix to the system cover.

41. The storage container of claim 40 reversibly affixing to the system cover by a groove and lip attachment or a friction fitting.

42. A method for monitoring blood glucose in a smartphone adapted system comprising the steps of:

providing a covering, the covering further comprising a glucose monitor, and one or more compartments selected from the group comprising a test strip storage compartment, a lancet storage compartment and a biohazard material receptacle, and a lancet striker;

placing a smartphone into the covering;

Activating the glucose monitor by placing a test strip into the glucose monitor;

placing a lancet into the lancet striker;

adjusting the tension of the lancet striker;

releasing the striker thereby causing the lancet to draw blood from a user; and

,

placing a blood sample on the test strip.

43. The method of claim 42 including the further step of placing the test strip into the biohazard material receptacle.

44. The method of claim 42 including the further step of placing the lancet into the biohazard material receptacle.

45. The method of claim 42 wherein the cover further includes a power source.

46. The power source of claim 45 comprising a battery.

47. The power source of claim 45 comprising the smartphone.
