Abstract

A first device may have a processor and a power management system configured to receive a request from a second device. The first device may receive attribute data from the second device and compare the attribute data of the second device to attribute data of the first device. The first device may then determine whether the second device is a qualifying device based on the comparison and it may also determine a power transfer mode of the first device based on whether the device is a qualifying device and on the attribute data of the first and second device.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a first device and a second device each having a processor;

at least one of the first device and second device having a power management system configured to;

compare attribute data from the first device with attribute data from the second device; and

determine a power transfer mode for at least one of the first or second devices based on the comparison of the attribute data from the first and second device.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the power transfer mode is one of a transmit mode instructing a device to transmit wireless power and a receive mode instructing a device to accept the transmitted wireless power.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the power management system is further configured to:

receive subsequent attribute data from the first device and second device;

compare the additional attribute data from the first device with the additional attribute data of the second device; and

adjust the power transfer mode of at least one of the first device or second device based on the additional attribute data.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the power management system is configured to receive the additional attribute data at predetermined periodic increments.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the first device is configured to operate in a transmit mode and receive wireless connectivity from the second device simultaneously.

6. The system of claim 2, wherein the power management system is further configured to:

detect additional devices and receive attribute data from each additional device;

compare the attribute data from the additional devices with the attribute data of the first and second devices;

determine the power transfer mode of the additional devices based on the comparison; and

identify a priority device from the additional devices based on the attribute data of the additional devices.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the priority device is identified by at least one rule defined in the attribute data of at least one of the first device or second device.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein at least one of the attribute data from the first device or second device defines at least one threshold corresponding to an attribute included in the attribute data of the other of the first device or second device and further wherein the power transfer mode of at least one of the first device or second device is based at least in part on the comparison of the threshold attribute and the corresponding attribute.

9. A method comprising:

receiving, at a first device, a request from a second device;

receiving attribute data including a plurality of attributes from the second device;

comparing the attribute data from the second device with attribute data of the first device, wherein the attribute data of the first device includes at least one threshold attribute corresponding to at least one attribute of the second device;

determining whether the second device is a qualifying device based on the comparison of the at least one threshold attribute and the at least one corresponding attribute of the second device; and

determining a power transfer mode of the first device based on whether the device is a qualifying device and on the attribute data of the first and second device.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the power transfer mode is one of a transmit mode instructing a device to transmit wireless power and a receive mode instructing a device to accept the transmitted wireless power.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

receiving subsequent attribute data from the second device;

comparing the additional attribute data from the second device with the attribute data of the first device; and

adjusting the power transfer mode of the first device based on the additional attribute data.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising receiving the additional attribute data at predetermined periodic increments.

13. The method of claim 10, further comprising receiving wireless connectivity from the second device.

14. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

detecting additional devices and receive attribute data from each additional device;

comparing the attribute data from the additional devices with the attribute data of the first device;

determining whether any one of the additional devices is a qualifying device based on the comparison;

comparing the attribute data of each of the qualifying devices; and

identifying a priority device from the qualifying devices to operate in a mode identified within the request based on the attribute data of the additional devices.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the priority device is identified by at least one rule defined in the attribute data of the first device.

16. The method of claim 14, further comprising instructing a transmitter of the priority device to be directed towards the second device.

17. A non-transitory computer-readable medium tangibly embodying computer-executable instructions comprising:

receiving, at a first device, a request from a second device;

receiving attribute data including a plurality of attributes from the second device;

comparing the attribute data from the second device with attribute data of the first device, wherein the attribute data of the first device includes at least one threshold attribute corresponding to at least one attribute of the second device;

determining whether the second device is a qualifying device based on the comparison of the at least one threshold attribute and the at least one corresponding attribute of the second device; and

determining a power transfer mode of the first device based on whether the device is a qualifying device and on the attribute data of the first and second device.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

receiving additional attribute data from the second device;

comparing the additional attribute data from the second device with the attribute data of the first device; and

adjusting the power transfer mode of the first device based on the additional attribute data.

19. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

detecting additional devices and receive attribute data from each additional device;

comparing the attribute data from the additional devices with the attribute data of the first device;

determining whether any one of the additional devices is a qualifying device based on the comparison;

comparing the attribute data of each of the qualifying devices; and

identifying a priority device from the qualifying devices to operate in a mode identified within the request based on the attribute data of the additional devices.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the power transfer mode is one of a transmit mode instructing a device to transmit wireless power and a receive mode instructing a device to accept the transmitted wireless power.
