Abstract

An analyte monitoring system, which can be used to monitor blood sugar, is provided with a sensor which detects a plurality of blood sugar levels in blood on the basis of a sampling interval, a meal data setting unit which sets information based on meal contents, and a sampling interval setting unit which sets the sampling interval of the sensor using the information based on meal contents set by the meal data setting unit. By predicting a fluctuation curve of the blood sugar level after a meal by information based on meal contents to thereby change the sampling interval, a fluctuation state of the blood sugar level can be efficiently monitored.

Claims

1. An analyte monitoring system comprising:

a sensor positionable on a living body of a user and configured to measure a concentration of an analyte in the living body of the user at a sampling interval;

a database storage in which is stored a plurality of different sampling interval patterns, each sampling interval pattern identifying a different combination of sampling intervals of different duration at which the concentration of the analyte is measured;

meal data setting means for setting information identifying contents of a meal consumed by the user;

sampling interval setting means which uses the information identifying the contents of the meal consumed by the user for setting one of the sampling interval patterns stored in the database storage; and

the sensor measuring the concentration of the analyte at the sampling intervals identified by the sampling interval pattern set by the sampling interval setting means.

2. The analyte monitoring system according to claim 1, further comprising a button configured to allow a user to input information identifying a time at which a meal is eaten by the user.

3. The analyte monitoring system according to claim 2, further comprising a display arranged on a monitoring unit, the display being configured to display the concentration of the analyte in the living body measured by the sensor.

4. The analyte monitoring system according to claim 3, wherein the monitoring unit includes a casing and the button is arranged on an outer surface of the casing.

5. The analyte monitoring system according to claim 1, wherein the sensor is connected to a transmitter-receiver which wirelessly transmits a signal identifying the measured concentration of the analyte in the living body measured by the sensor.

6. The analyte monitoring system according to claim 5, further comprising a monitoring device which receives the signal transmitted by the transmitter-receiver and includes storage that stores the measured concentration of the analyte in the living body measured by the sensor.

7. The analyte monitoring system according to claim 5, further comprising a monitoring device which receives the signal transmitted by the transmitter-receiver and includes a display that displays the measured concentration of the analyte in the living body measured by the sensor.

8. An analyte monitoring system comprising:

detection means configured to be embedded in a body of a user for detecting concentration of an analyte at a sampling interval;

meal data setting means for setting information based on meal contents;

sampling interval setting means for setting the sampling interval at which the detection means detects the concentration of the analyte using the information based on meal contents set by the meal data setting means; and

wherein the analyte monitoring system continuously measures the analyte by the detection means.

9. The analyte monitoring system according to claim 8, further comprising mealtime setting means setting mealtime information, wherein

the sampling interval setting means changes the sampling interval of the detection means based on the mealtime information set by the mealtime setting means.

10. The analyte monitoring system according to claim 8, wherein the information based on meal contents is a carbohydrate value indicating an amount of carbohydrates in each of the meal contents.

11. The analyte monitoring system according to claim 10, further comprising:

database storage means storing the carbohydrate value for each of the meal contents as a database; and

display means displaying a meal content with which the carbohydrate value is associated.

12. The analyte monitoring system according to claim 11, wherein, in response to selection of a meal content displayed by the display means, the meal data setting means sets the carbohydrate value of the selected meal content.

13. The analyte monitoring system according to claim 10, further comprising sampling pattern storage means for storing a plurality of pieces of pattern data combining a plurality of kinds of sampling intervals, wherein

the sampling interval setting means calculates a total value of the carbohydrate values in one meal, and selects one of the plurality of pieces of pattern data on the basis of the total value.

14. The analyte monitoring system according to claim 13, wherein the analyte is a blood sugar level.

15. The analyte monitoring system according to claim 14, wherein in each of the plurality of pieces of pattern data, a period during which each of the plurality of kinds of sampling intervals is performed is set depending on the vicinity of a peak value in which the blood sugar level is predicted to be highest after a meal on the basis of the carbohydrate value.

16. A method comprising:

setting meal contents identifying contents of a meal consumed by a user;

using the meal contents of the meal consumed by the user to select one sampling interval pattern out of a plurality of different sampling interval patterns, each of the sampling interval patterns identifying a different combination of sampling intervals at which a concentration of an analyte in a living body of the user is measured;

positioning a sensor on the living body of the user so that at least a part of the sensor is embedded in the living body of the user; and

using the sensor to measure the concentration of the analyte in the living body at sample intervals identified by the selected sampling interval pattern.

17. The method according to claim 16, wherein the concentration of the analyte in the living body is blood sugar level in the living body of the user.

18. The method according to claim 16, wherein the plurality of different sampling interval patterns are stored in a database storage, wherein each of the sampling interval patterns includes a relatively shorter sampling interval and a relatively longer sampling interval.

19. The method according to claim 16, further comprising displaying the measure concentration of the analyte in the living body on a display.

20. The method according to claim 16, wherein the setting of the meal contents identifying the contents of the meal consumed by the user includes setting an amount of carbohydrates in the meal consumed by the user.
